Connor, a kindergarten teacher, rushes one of his students to hospital after an accident, where the enraged father of the little girl throws out a remark that will have grave consequences for Con. I had a tough time rating this novella, not reading it but rating it. I really do enjoy Lanyon's writing, and this novella is no exception. But, and it's a big but - the character of the father, his actions, his words, no. Just no. It isn't working for me. That's not broody, sensitive, or whathaveyou. This is a person you either file a law suit against or simply avoid. And no, apologies are words the wrong doer needs to say - not words the victim has to accept and forgive.
