Well, that was one very slow and agonizing read. Reading about children being locked up and slowly forgotten by their mother was just cruel an well, dragging. I could feel the years passing by in the attic, the boredom, the frustration. No idea if that was intentionally or not, but I definitely don‘t want to ever read this book again. Incest was part of the book, well it‘s basically the foundation, yet I kind of ignored it when choosing to read this book because I thought I had remembered that fact wrong. Very soon, as it turned out, my memory was right and I had to read about half-uncle/half-niece and brother/sister incest. Not the best of moments and I wish I could forget this book altogether. 2 stars because the writing could have been worse.
