A rider without their dragon is dead.“ I’ve waited for a long time to read this book because I’ve heard a lot about it thanks to other bloggers and social media. In August, I finally started it and now, after having read this book several times, I’m (mentally) capable of reviewing it. In the beginning, the reader gets to know Basgiath, the War Collage where volunteers can join the healing, scribe, infantry or rider’s quadrant. Violet was trained to become a scribe but joins the rider’s quadrant, by order of her mother, General Sorrengail. Violet doesn’t fight her mother’s decisions but goes with it and I love how she fights to survive every single day with every new challenge awaiting. And she grows a lot, too in her first year for she faces opponents who try to kill her, she passes all the tests and learns to follow her heart – even if it means that old friends are starting to become a part of the past. Besides, Violet realizes very quickly that nothing is what it seems like and that a bigger war is at the doorstep than anyone would have imagined and finds herself in the middle of it. „I will not die today.“ (Violet) Xaden Riorson – the son who lead the uprising against the leadership a couple of years ago – is not only ruthless, dangerous and intriguing but also in a position to kill Violet, the daughter of his father’s executioner. However, he might seem distant at first sight but somehow he always seems to be at the right place on the right time. The more you get to know him and the depth of his character the more I love him. He is a hot shadow daddy and so absolutely swoon worthy in every single way. I also loved the fact that the friendship between Violet and her squat is becoming as tight as family ties can become. The loyalty that none of them questions, the certainty that anyone would help the others without question is so, so, so beautiful. Deutsche Kurzrezension Diese Welt, die in einer Kriegsakademie startet, hat mich vom ersten Moment an in ihren Bann gezogen und hat mir mit ihren Besonderheiten (knallharten Prüfungen, wo es ums nackte Überleben geht) unheimlich gut gefallen! die Protagonistin Violet macht eine unglaubliche Entwicklung während des Verlaufs durch, sodass ich diese junge Frau einfach nur bewundere. Xaden hingegen ist sehr geheimnisvoll, was ihn umso anzüglicher macht, da man sich bei ihm nie sicher sein kann, wie er sich verhalten wird. Ihre sich langsam anbahnende Nähe hat die Autorin sehr gefühlvoll, sehr antizipierend geschildert, was für mich fast schöner war, als ihr eigentliches Zusammenkommen. Alles in allem empfinde ich Fourth Wing von Rebecca Yarros als absolut fantastisch gelungen und habe die Lektüre unglaublich genossen. Ich habe es erst nach mehrmaligem Lesen geschafft, eine Rezension zu formulieren – so sehr hing ich monatelang in dieser Welt fest. Ich habe noch keinen Auftakt einer Serie mit der höchsten Kategorie bewertet, um den folgenden Bänden eine Steigerungsmöglichkeit zu geben, aber dieses Buch verdient es absolut. Daher bewerte ich es mit Tauchliebe. Zudem ist ein Lieblingsbookie von einer potenziell neuen Lieblingsautorin und ein Jahreshighlight. Es ist einfach der absolute Hammer! Jeder muss dieses Buch lesen, es ist einfach so großartig!

Das war… mir fehlen die Worte. Episch? Ich habe es verschlungen! Konnte es nicht aus den Händen legen. Dieses Buch ist einfach unfassbar 🫠 Die Story, die Protas, das Setting, alles, einfach nur wow! Obwohl der Romance Teil erst spät ins Spiel kommt, ist vorher alles so spannend, dass es einem gar nicht auffällt. Beziehungsweise sind da vorher genügend Häppchen verteilt 😛 was bin ich grinsend vor dem Buch gesessen wenn es zu Schlagabtäuschen zwischen Violet & Xaden kam 😏 Unbedingt lesen! Auch wenns ihr bisher kein Fantasy gelesen habt, so wie ich. Es ist einfach atemberaubend ⚡️

Im absolutely in love. Sämtliche Charaktere dieser Reihe haben mein Herz erobert. Es gab so viele Plottwists die ich einfach nicht kommen sehen habe und es mir unmöglich gemacht haben dieses Buch aus der Hand zu legen. Ich muss auch zugeben, dass die letzten Seiten absolut nicht erwartet habe und emotional richtig mitgenommen haben. Den Aufbau der Welt und die Aussprache sämtlicher Namen und Bezeichungen habe ich bis jetzt noch nicht verstanden, aber ich hab ja noch weitere Teile. I’m absolutely stunned- surprisingly in a positive way Every single time I try to read a fantasy I end up putting it down and can’t seem to finish it… I couldn’t put this book down. Rebecca builds this unique world with humans and dragons full with challenges, love, heartbreak and companionship. A truly wonderful world she has created. This book may have changed my views on fantasy books.

Ich habe dieses Buch gelesen, weil es jeder so gehyped hat. Leider ist die Drachenwelt überhaupt nicht meine.. was mich auch gestört hat, waren die speziellen Namen der Drachen [- ich habe Aphantasie, wodurch ich mir Sachen nur schwer vorstellen kann.. wenn in Büchern Namen vorkommen, die ich nicht richtig aussprechen kann, kann ich mir diese nicht merken :,) ] Die se*uellen Szenen sind allerdings der Hammer gewesen! Trotzdem werde ich diese Reihe nicht fertig lesen..

Fourth war echt einfach nur ... Wow! Man würde direkt in die Geschichte geworfen und es hat spannend gestartet. Wird Violet in den Scribe Quadrant wechseln oder in Riders Quadrant bleiben? Nach kurzer Zeit hatte ich auch schon meine Meinungen zu einigen Charakteren: Diese mag ich: - Liam - Rhiannon - Imogen - Tairn - Sgaeyl - Ardana - Xaden - Ridoc - Violet - Mira Diese mag ich nicht: - Dain - Jack - General (Lilith) Sorrengail An manchen Stellen würde es schon spicy aber es ging eigentlich noch. Ich würde Fourth Wing aber trotzdem erst so ab 14/15 Jahren lesen, denn manche Stellen wurden schon explizit beschrieben. Zur Not könnte man sie allerdings auch überspringen, da dort sonst nichts wichtiges passiert. So, jetzt kommt ein SPOILER: Über Brennon bin ich ja noch etwas unentschlossen, weil ich es irgendwie nicht so toll von ihn finde, dass er seine Familie hat glauben lassen, er wäre tot, obwohl er eigentlich noch am Leben ist. Ich kann es allerdings auch irgendwo verstehen, weil es wahrscheinlich nicht so gut für ihn geendet hätte, wenn er plötzlich wieder aufgetaucht wäre. Der SPOILER ist zuende. Ich freue mich jetzt auf jeden Fall schonmal auf den zweiten Band, den ich zum Glück schon habe.

Wenn ich könnte würde ich diesem Buch 6 Sterne geben. Scheiße, ich würde dem Buch 100 Sterne geben, wenn das möglich wäre. Ich habe in meinem Leben noch nie ein so gutes Buch gelesen. Die Chemie zwischen Violet und Xaden ist so krass. Ich liebe alles an diesem Buch. Jedes einzelne Wort!!!

Spoiler alert❗️❗️ Damn, that was a good book!😃 Even though I'm normally not the biggest fan of fantasy, I really enjoyed reading this book. The scenarios in my head felt so real that I even now still persuade myself that Navarre exists somewhere at the end of the world🥲. Nevertheless my life feels a little empty now... I need to get the second book!! I loved the enemies-to-lovers trope and oh my god, the tension between Violet and Xaden!!!!😍😍 I was so happy when they finally kissed🥰. And how they were bonded to each other because their mated dragons...this plot twist was perfection!❤️‍🔥 It didn't take much time to read because I was always excited what would come next. I was surprised not to have much of a problem with the amount of spice.🤭 Sometimes I just couldn't hide my emotions about the book and it was probably hilarious for the others to watch me as I was cursing, giggling,....😅😂 But that only tells us that it's a good book, right? I'm so proud of Violet that she never gave up. 💗Girl, you worked so hard and you're so intelligent and so brave(!even to confess your feelings for Xaden with the knowlegde that he might dump you + risking your life to protect Andarna +...!) you can be so proud of yourself!!❤️❤️

At first I didn't want to read it because of the hype. Like literally I've SWORN to myself to never read it. Thanks to a relentless friend of mine I read it and... thank god I did. Is it a bit clichè at times and is it a bit more... naughty then it merits? Yeah (like excuse me but U don't think people are going to think about sex when they're about to die but anyways) Still enjoyed this VERY much and I love the inclusion in this book.

Persönlich bin ich alles andere als ein Fan der Institution des Militärs — auch wenn hier Drachen eingebaut wurden. Deshalb hat es mich auch 60-100 Seiten gekostet, bis ich in die Geschichte endlich reingekommen bin. Aber ab da war ich gefesselt. Die Autorin nutzt eine sehr spannende Art und Weise, persönliche Interaktionen, Freund*innenschaften, Love, Kriegsgeschehen und eine tolle Storyline so zu verflechten, dass man einfach weiterlesen möchte. Mir persönlich gefällt auch sehr wie „ausgeglichen“ die Beziehung zwischen den from Enemies to Lovers ist — ich persönlich hatte auf jeden Fall das Gefühl, dass diese Beziehung auf Augenhöhe stattfindet. Außerdem gab es immerhin eine nicht binäre Person sowie einige queere Charaktere. Alles in allem ein sehr starker Einstieg in die Buchreihe und für mich persönlich auch das Beste der aktuell drei existierenden Bände.

Ich habe dieses Buch geliebt!🫶🏼 Es hat meine komplette Persönlichkeit eingenommen! Anfangs war ich etwas skeptisch, da das mein erstes Buch dieses Genres war und ich Angst hatte dass das Buch nur overhyped ist, aber ich wurde definitiv nicht enttäuscht. Ich habe bei jedem Kapitel mitgefiebert und konnte das Buch ab der Hälfte gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Die Charaktere und das gesamte Plotting sind so detailreich. Zum Ende hin habe ich ausgiebig geheult und was waren das bitte für heftige letzte 3 Sätze in diesem Buch 🤌🏼 🤯 Genau mein Geschmack, so darf ein erster Teil einer Reihe enden, ohne den heftigsten Cliffhanger aller Zeiten zu haben… weil sind wir mal ehrlich… das würde doch niemand aushalten🥹😂 Ich denke ich muss meine 5/5🌟 auch nicht weiter begründen, da das Buch für sich spricht. Ich freu mich schon riesig auf den 2. Teil!!!🤗

It‘s divergent with dragons. That‘s it…she thinks she’s small and broken but in reality she’s a badass. Who would have thought…and the love story…it’s not even enemies to lovers. She falls immediately. There’s no struggle really, no slow burn. You know, when you are hyped that it finally happens??? Nope, nothing. More like, finally it’s not annoying me anymore. It’s not such a bad read. The last third made up for the rest.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros had been on my TBR for quite some time—mainly due to the massive hype on BookTok and Bookstagram. But I’m not easily impressed by trends. Still, I finally picked it up and read it within a few days (or rather, a few sleepless nights). Not because it was unbelievably fantastic or truly worth the hype, but simply because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Violet Sorrengail, daughter of a powerful general, is forced into the brutal world of dragon riders—even though she’s physically weak and was originally meant for a more peaceful life. But, of course, things take a different turn: she’s thrown into a deadly selection process where only the strongest survive. Along the way, she encounters Xaden Riorson—her biggest enemy… or maybe her greatest distraction? Within the first few pages, it became clear that this book is a checklist of fantasy clichés. Weak heroine suddenly thrust into a life-or-death situation? Check. Dark, brooding, devastatingly handsome love interest with a tragic past? Check. Predictable “chosen one” storyline? Double check. Violet, unfortunately, doesn’t feel like a strong protagonist—not in the sense of real character growth. She doesn’t actively work to improve; instead, she stumbles through the story, survives through sheer luck, and is constantly saved by her friends. Honestly, her dragons are the most interesting thing about her. Xaden is your classic “bad boy,” constantly described as impossibly attractive—so much so that I eventually started skipping every mention of his looks. The supposed love triangle with Dain feels forced and inconsistent, shifting at random without any real emotional build-up. From the beginning, you already know how this story will play out: Violet will, of course, bond with the strongest dragon, she’ll take longer than others to get her signet but will end up with one that’s more powerful than anyone else’s, and the romance will follow an all-too-familiar pattern. What bothered me most was the sudden emotional shifts—one moment she fears for her life, the next she wants to lick Xaden from head to toe. There’s no real tension between them, and the “spice” aspect of the book is, in my opinion, overrated. Rebecca Yarros’ writing is solid but nothing extraordinary. It flows well but often feels repetitive—especially when it comes to describing Xaden. The world itself gives off a mix of Shadow and Bone and Harry Potter, though without the same depth or originality. Fourth Wing isn’t a disaster, but it’s far from a masterpiece. If you enjoy classic fantasy romance with a predictable plot and a few cool dragons, you might have fun with it. But if you’re looking for deep character development, unexpected twists, or unique storytelling, this book might disappoint you. I genuinely don’t understand why so many readers are obsessed with it—while entertaining in parts, it ultimately feels like just another overhyped fantasy novel. ⭐ 2.5/5 stars – decent for a quick read, but nothing particularly memorable.

Mich hat noch nie ein Buch solange hinter einem Charakter her trauern lassen wie dieses. Rebecca Yarros hat wirklich ein Meisterwerk erschaffen mit diesem Buch und ich bin sehr gespannt auf die anderen beiden Teile. Der Schreibstil ist super und man konnte der Handlung sehr schön folgen.

I think my expectations were a bit too high, but I still had fun reading it. I loved the fantasy aspect of it, but I didn’t care too much about the romance part. It was a bit rushed, considering they were supposed to be enemies to lovers and I didn’t really feel that much chemistry. That might change as the story continues, so I am curious to how it will develop in Iron Flame. 🐉

20 Monate seit Erscheinungsdatum sind vergangen, und erst jetzt habe ich es gewagt, diese Reihe anzufangen. Und ich bin so froh, dass es jetzt noch 2 weitere Teile gibt, in die ich mich jetzt stürzen kann. Diese Geschichte ist wirklich echt genial und Ultra spannend. Es entstehen Plottwists, mit denen rechnet man einfach nicht, da man auf jedes kleinste Detail achten müsste, um überhaupt eine Ahnung zu bekommen, was passieren könnte. Die Figuren sind herausragend, authentisch und absolut liebenswert, auch die eher unbeliebten. Aber auch storytechnisch ein Riesenlob, die Story ist einfach nur genial 🤩. Möchte jetzt unbedingt Band 2 lesen.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the book because I definitely did although I struggled getting into it because the pacing up until 30% of the book felt a bit slow and I found myself wishing it moved faster. It's also very VERY cliché especially in the first half but I think it gets better after that. I liked Violet as a protagonist - her unique strength and complexity grew on me - and her dynamic with Xaden was compelling. And I also love Ridoc, Sawyer, Rhi & Liam. They all brought warmth and depth to the story. What I just don't understand is Jack. This character is so one-dimensional it's actually insane how his only purpose seems to make Violets life miserable from day 1 on. And there seems to be no logic behind it either besides the "oh you're weak and have the most powerful dragon i want him now die!" It just felt a bit too simplistic. Also the forshadowing is sadly a little bit too obvious which kinda made the plottwists not as exciting as they could have been. Overall while Fourth Wing has it's flaws and I definitely don't get the hype it's a really cool story to dwelve into if you'd like a Romance book to have a baby with Hunger Games, Harry Potter and How to train your dragon at the same time. The end of the book kinda made me hope the next books make a deeper dive into the world instead of focussing on romance which left me excited for book 2.

Der Hype hat irgendwie auch mich erreicht und nachdem ich lange mit mir gehadert habe, Fourth Wing zu lesen, habe ich es jetzt hinter mir - und ja, hinter mir. Auch wenn Fourth Wing nach den ersten 120 Seiten dann doch spannend wird, weil endlich mal was passiert, hat es doch viele Schwächen meiner Meinung nach. Allen voran hatte ich seit der Grisha-Trilogie (noch gar nicht so lange her eigentlich) kein so vorhersehbares Buch mehr. Die "Plot Twists" werden durch konstant wieder erwähnte Details, die andernfalls keinen weiteren Sinn für den Plot haben, unglaublich vorhersehbar. Man merkt, das Yarros versucht hat, den Leser komplett zu schockieren, aber liest man einigermaßen aufmerksam, ist da nichts wirklich Schockierendes und Unerwartetes. Neben der Vorhersehbarkeit ist der Plot von Anfang an viel zu sehr auf die Beziehung zwischen Violet und Xaden fokussiert, wodurch das World Building viel zu weit hinten an steht. Weiter sind ein Großteil der Figuren einfach nur anstrengend. Insbesondere die Hauptcharakterin Violet, ein klassisches "Pick me" Girl, ging mir auf die Nerven. Auch Xaden ist nicht wirklich ein Charakter den man gern haben will... er ist halt toxisch. Die Nebencharaktere und Freunde von Violet sind die einzigen Menschen, die einen gewissen Unterhaltungswert haben - neben den Drachen (besonders Tairn und Andarna). Der Schreibstil von Yarros ist auch unglaublich gewöhnungsbedürftig. Ich hab den Eindruck, dass Violet ADHS hat oder autistische Züge aufweist, was es in der Ich-Perspektive unglaublich schwer macht, dem Plot zu folgen. Die Sätze sind simpel, es kommen allgemein viele vulgäre Wörter zum Ausdruck und es wird definitiv kein Wert auf das Erklären der Welt von Fourth Wing gelegt. Statt die Welt zu erklären, werden Sexszenen viel zu langatmig beschrieben und sind nicht einmal wirklich realistisch (Spoiler: sie zerstören Violets Zimmer, aber trotz ihrer Gebrechlichkeit bleibt sie ganz... ich frag mich wie). Alles in Allem: Hätte der Fokus mehr auf der Welt von Fourth Wing und dem Plot (wobei ich den nicht wirklich definieren kann) gelegen, hätte das Buch definitiv davon profitiert, denn die Grundidee ist mal wieder gar nicht so schlecht.

Of cooooourse: Enemies-to-lovers and a bad boy who ist just so f***ing hot that we cannot resist to fall in love with him. 😻 And this is fourth wing in a nutshell. 🤭 But seriously, this book is not the best ever written, but it gives us a world to just fall for. A world that shows diversity, and still shows the critical side of society. You can get lost in authentic fantasy together with Violet, Rhiannon, Ridoc and our all-time-favorite Liam. 🫶 The more we get into the law of Basgiath the more we also discover secrets and there is more than good and evil. The cherry on top is the epic love story between Vi and Xaden - we all love our shadow daddys. 😂❤️ Anyway, think you got the point - now just read it. It’s worth all the time! ❤️❤️❤️

Violet Sorrengail hat einen zerbrechlichen Körper, aber einen glasklaren Verstand. Jahrelang hat sie sich darauf vorbereitet, in die Fußstapfen ihres Vaters zu treten und eine Gelehrte zu werden, doch dann kommt alles anders: ihre Mutter, eine Generalin, entscheidet, dass Violet ins War College Basgiath eintreten soll, um Drachenreiterin zu werden wie sie selbst. Die Ausbildung in Basgiath ist mörderisch, bereits den Weg dorthin überleben viele der angehenden Studenten nicht und kaum angekommen wird weiter dezimiert. Es gibt eh nicht genug Drachen für alle. Vi muss sich auf ihren scharfen Verstand, einige Geschenke ihrer großen Schwester und auf ihre neuen Frende verlassen, um das erste Jahr durchzustehen. Und dann ist da noch Xaden Riorson, Schüler im letzten Jahr, mächtigster Drachenreiter seiner Generation und Sohn eines Rebellen, der von Violets Mutter exekutiert wurde. Vermutlich will er Vi umbringen, aber er ist so unglaublich heiß... Ich musste das Buch im Anschluss an Onyx Storm einfach noch einmal lesen und hab es wieder sehr gefeiert. Es macht solchen Spaß, mitzurleben, wie Violet sich entwickelt. Die Handlung ist spannend und voller Wendungen und die Drachen sowie die Reiter sind mir ans Herz gewachsen.

Richtig tolles Buch. Mir gefällt der Schreibstil wodurch man im Buch gut voran kommt. Das einzige was mich etwas gestört war immer wieder die Wiederholungen wie Violet reagiert wenn sie Xaden sieht. Ich dachte mir irgentwann ok ich habs verstanden ist gut jetzt. Abgesehen von diesem Detail ein richtig gutes Buch. Liam jedoch hat mich total zerstört...

Anfangs habe ich mich etwas geweigert das Buch zu lesen, da ich es als 'Mainstream' abgestempelt hatte, doch jetzt wo ich es gelesen habe, verstehe ich warum es so beliebt ist. Ich war selten so in ein Buch vertieft und habe so mitgefiebert wie bei diesem. Ich fange direkt mit dem nächsten an.

Violet Sorrengail is a fierce, sarcastic, and intelligent heroine who fights against all odds. And Xaden Riorson? I have a huge crush on him!!! Their Enemies to Lovers romance is pure perfection - slow-burning, full of suspense and absolutely electrifying. The action is brutal, the stakes are high, and the dragons? Epic. The world-building is rich, the political intrigue riveting, and the ending? It destroyed me. I cried, I screamed. I wanted to throw my book across the room and hug it at the same time! -How am I supposed to move on?! How am I supposed to read anything else now!!!? And Dain? GTFO!!

Ein reread auf englisch war echt ein super Plan. Es war so schön alles nochmal zu lesen und auch das Englisch war sehr verständlich. Ich habe wieder mit Violet gelitten und es hat so Spaß gemachts, auch wenn mein Herz am Ende wieder gebrochen wurde. Wundervoller auftakt der Reihe.

Ich bin froh, dass ich das Buch nochmal gelesen habe, bevor ich mit Onyx Storm anfangen werde. Mir ist aufgefallen, dass ich so viele Sachen beim ersten Mal nicht bemerkt habe, oder ich sie einfach auch vergessen habe. Die Tension zwischen Xaden und Violet war einfach wieder erste Sahne!
