Okay so to be fair, did I think this was a masterpiece of a book? No. But did I enjoy it? Yes! It was probably a bit short, if I think of all the lore and world building that could have happened here, but it was fine. I liked the main characters, the smut scenes were fine and the plot was also there. You could guess it from a mile away, but I didn’t mind it to be honest. The people you didn’t like tended to die like snowflakes, which to be honest, kinda refreshing to see a book that exists in a brutal, cutthroat world and actually uses that as well. Not just people making threats, but actual killing happening, is honestly rare in my eyes. While I am interested in finding out how this continues, I am not quite sure, that I will get the second book. While there is still one thing unresolved, I don’t feel the urge of having to know the answers.

It was (almost) everything I wanted: High Fantasy with Vampires, witches, magic, morally grey characters, steamy scenes and all my favourite tropes! The only thing that bugged me was that one trope and how it was handled at the end. But I can't wait to read book 2 as soon as possible and see how things evolve from here!

Not much plot and not really an enemies to lovers situation as the main character is extremely horny for him since the very first chapter. It's nice the book includes trigger warnings though and while I'm not a big fan of 1st person pov it didn't really bother me here - even if the main character came off as a "not like the other girls" girl and I couldn't stand her at all.

Personally to much sex for me cause we got maybe 10% plot and 90% smut. Also I don’t know how I feel about her quickness to change her mind from „I hate him he’s a monster“ to „I love him let’s have sex“ in a matter of seconds Same with „I will never let him drink my blood“ to „but will I enjoy it?“ and letting him drink it in a matter of seconds I did enjoy it just not as much as I thought I would

The story had a lot of potential, but unfortunately the book in half consisted of repetitively written sex scenes while the other half was mostly about the fact, that she told herself she must hate him to the bones, because she didn't know any better and somehow refused to be taught any better and the fact that he had a boner like 24/7. The big picture and what is behind it - why Adrian wanted to marry Isolde in the first place, who attacks their people and slaughters as many, who is trustworthy and who not- that all comes quite briefly and not until I was like 90% through the book, which was frustrating. Still kinda enjoyed reading it, but I expected so much more from this. Maybe the second book will fill in the gaps and make up for it.

I don‘t know what it is about this book, but I was surprised when I read it for the first time, because I couldn‘t believe Scarlett St. Clair had written it. It felt so entirely different (style-wise) from The Persephone X Hades Series. That didn‘t change when I read it again to prepare for the second book in the series. Half the time I felt like I was missing important information, as if I had skipped a page or two. But no. At times really tragic things happened, but I felt so much distance towards the characters that I didn‘t feel a thing. And usually I am deep into the feelings with books. Somehow Isolde and Adrian didn‘t let me in. Sadly that takes away from my experience. I am glad I read it again, though, because I really needed the refresher before I dove into Queen of Myth and Monsters.

I liked this book. It's easy to read and has a bit smut. 🌶️ Sadly Isolde is a tough character but she is so blinded by the things she has been told. She sometimes doesn't even seem to think at all. The story is quite simple: To avoid a war between the vampire Kingdom Revekka and Isolde's home Lara, she agrees to marry the Blood King Adrian. There is a lot of Sex Appeal between the two of them. It's quite strange that Isolde turns out to be Adrian's lost lover Yesenia of Aroth (witch). But however I guess I will read the second part as well. My favourite quotes: It was said Adrian angered Dis, goddess of spirit, and as a result, she cursed him to crave blood. (Page 4) I did not fear the dark. I did not fear the monsters. I did not even fear the Blood King. But I did fear for my father, for my people, for my culture. Because Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev was inevitable. (Page 5) Whatever I was, it did not fit a mold. But I did not think that made me a bad princess or that it would make me a bad queen. What it made me was someone who was willing to rule without a king, and that was something I wasn't sure this world was prepared for. (Page 24) Do not tremble under the gaze of the Blood King. Surrender today, live to conquer tomorrow. (Page 28) You assume I want a wife. But I came for a queen. (Page 40) Never forget, my queen, that goddesses are just humans with great power. (Page 123) All the stars in the sky are not as bright as my love for you. (Page 349) Adrian was not the monster - evil could live within any creature. Adrian was the vengeance. (Page 363)

More like "King of Smut and Daddy Issues" - but I loved it for it. I expected it to be more like the HadesxPersephone series, but I actually don't know why. This book has a completely different vibe to it, and I liked it. Tbh, in the end, I got the feeling nothing really happened, and I think this book is meant to be more of an introduction to the whole world and story, but I didn't mind. I had fun reading it, and I was surprised how fast I finished it because it didn't feel like I've had to read much. If you need something more light with a decent amount of good smut and a realistic view on how horny women really can be, without shaming them for it - here you go. (Even I thought sometimes: "Really? U horny AGAIN? ... well, I'd be too, tbh. Fair.")

Also ich bin echt etwas enttäuscht…. Der Anfang war wirklich super gut und ich mochte die Aufmachung der Geschichte und sie hatte wirklich viel Potenzial… aber das Buch hat sich so lange hingezogen und für mich war es super anstrengend es zu verstehen und am Ball zu bleiben… sehr komisch, denn A Touch of Darkness habe ich von der Autorin geliebt 😢

I liked the plot a lot and unlike "a touch of darkness" this book actually enamored me and had me trapped in another world. Yet it wasn't to an extend where I would call this a five-star-book. I liked Isoldes character development and the lovestory between her and Adrian a lot even though some of the lovestory was rushed (like in "a touch of darkeness", yet not nearly as bad), yet it wasn't so rushed to a point where you could not understand why isolde was attracted to Adrian which for me was a big problem in "a touch of darkness". The tension between the two main characters was just right and the 🌶🌶🌶-scenes were well placed (except for the one at the beginning. I still don't understand how meeting a beautiful stranger, who didn't even introduce himself, can make someone so horny but hey, who am I to juck someone's yum?). So all in all it was a very good read and missed the 5-Stars by just a jiffy...

Wowsa, was für ein Buch. Ich hatte schon mitbekommen, dass recht viel smut in dem Buch vorkommt, daher hat mich das nicht gestört. Adrian hat mir von Anfang an sehr gut gefallen. Es ist immer etwas extra mystisches und anziehendes an Vampiren. Aber auch die Dinge, die er zu Isolde sagt haben mein Herz schmelzen lassen. Die Story fand ich gut und spannend, sodass ich den zweiten Teil gerne auch noch lese.

Das Ende hätte für meinen Geschmack einen miesen Cliffhanger vertragen, da ich so mehr das Verlangen spüren würde, den nächsten Teil direkt lesen zu wollen. Insgesamt war es ein gutes und spicy Buch für Zwischendurch.

*** Achtung Mini-Spoiler *** Ich habe nach Kapitel 10 abgebrochen, nachdem die Protagonisten schon gefühlt das siebte Mal einen intimen Moment geteilt haben, der mich nicht erreicht hat. Wer sowas mag kann da sicher drüber hinweg sehen. Die Kampfszenen fühlte sich wie Fillerfolgen an und die Charaktere blieben für mich flach bzw. Isolde wechselte immer wieder von ich will mit ihm schlafen, aber er ist der ach soooo böse Blutkönig, aber er ist so heiß, aber ich hasse ihn wenn er wieder meine Gedanken a la Edward lesen kann. Seine Grausamkeit begrenzt sich auf die Aktivitäten wie jeder andere Eroberer halt auch nur das das scheinbar jeder zu vergessen hat und der einzige Unterschied darin besteht das der Ernährungsplan anders ist. Und dann hat sie plötzlich random Machtmomente wo sie jedem vorhält das sie jetzt eine Königin ist Ehe sie wieder im Bett landet. Vielleicht ist da aber auch die Übersetzung schuld und in Englisch könnte es besser sein, aber das kann ich nicht beurteilen. Es ist auf jeden Fall in mehr Tell als Show geschrieben. Schade eigentlich, da ich der Autorin nach a Touch of Darkness noch eine Chance geben wollte.

What did I expect from this book? I expected a smutty fantasy romance.This book delivered on the smutty part. On the romance part, not so much. I didn’t really see anything beyond sexual attraction between these characters but then they declare love for each other? Did I miss anything?I liked the idea of an enemies-to-lovers romance but they were never really enemies. She’s just shipped of to his kingdom and has to adjust.But I enjoyed her attitude. She knows who she is, a princess who rules not only with words and compliments but with her fists and weapons as well. She’s badass. She takes no shit from anyone. Not even from citizens form a foreign kingdom she’s now supposed to rule. No, she stands her ground like a real queen. For anyone else it would have seems unnatural but she has been a princess for her whole life and was supposed to follow her father on the throne.The book reminded me of From Blood and Ash from time to time. The vampires, walled of villages, a protagonist who doesn’t know the truth, the absence of any explanation from other characters… At least Poppy asked question after question. Isolde just accepts that nobody tells her shit.  And than the sexual tension. It was there from the beginning and I get that. They are attracted to each other. What I didn’t appreciate was how Isolde never wanted to act on it but did anyway? Girl, you don’t have to if you don’t want to!<spoiler> Also, Adrian can read minds, so he knows what she’s thinking and he DOESN‘T stop?! Ever hear about consent? The mind reading really bothered me, because it was never really explained, too. Who can do it? Why does no one try to teach the new QUEEN how she can avoid her mind being read? Isn’t that something her husband would want? Especially now, that there’s a traitor among their most trusted friends?</spoiler>

Insgesamt war das Buch super. Ich habs verschlungen... aber es war einfach zu viel Sex. Direkt in den ersten 5 Seiten greift sich Isolde zwischen die Beine und in den darauffolgenden 10 Seiten geht's genau so mehrfach weiter. (Hab auch Sexszenen übersprungen irgendwann) Aber die Welt, das Rätsel, die Morde und die Charaktere drum herum haben das ganze zu einem sehr schönen Leseerlebnis gemacht. Auch sehr schön finde ich, dass das Buch zwar nicht alle Rätsel löst, aber doch so endet das man nicht direkt nach dem nächsten Buch Durstst. Der Cliffhanger ist also ein wenig subtiler und sehr angenehm.

I read that book in around 24 Hours what say a lot about the entertainment value of this book. The Story is not a new Thing but i liked the way of storytelling. You had the opportunity to guess what will happen or let Isolde guide you while she finds out the truth. About herself and her country. Their is not much negative to say about this book. It`s cute and you bond with the very well described Characters and the diversity behind the possibility of relationships. My only negative point are the for my tasting to much smut scenes thatcher mostly the same. Not a new position or happening. It ended up with an eyroll after the fifth „clit“ because it went annoying.

Maybe 4⭐️ It's not perfect. But what is perfect? This book was like this: something is missing, some things are disturbing but you don't really give a fvck bc you are well entertained? A few spicy scenes less would have done it and instead more plot. I would have liked more info on a lot of things, but I enjoyed this book so much, it was so entertaining (especially at the beginning)and the two MCs are cool. My expectations weren't too high, maybe that's why I really liked it? You just can't expect too much plot, haha. For me, a lot of things were very predictable, there was no real surprise for me. Disturbs me with this book only not so much, as with others. Idk. Let's see how it continues. Maybe a little more plot and action?

3,5 Sterne Meine Schwester wies mich, kurz bevor ich das Buch begann, darauf hin, dass es dieselbe Autorin ist wie bei A Touch of Darkness (welche mich nicht wirklich überzeugt hatten) Tatsächlich hatte ich darauf beim Kauf null geachtet, da es super spontan war und mich der Klappentext einfach überzeugt hatte. Meine Euphorie dieses Buch zu lesen, war also deutlich ausgebremst. Leider bestätigte sich das dann auch direkt zu Anfang, denn eine sexuelle Anspielung reihte sich an die nächste und ich war wirklich nur noch genervt, zumal ich wusste, dass sie die Szenen einfach nicht gut (be-)schreibt. ABER Es wurde besser. Die Spice-Szenen waren nicht schlecht geschrieben, ich mochte die Chemie zwischen den beiden total und im Laufe der Geschichte kam eben auch eine Tiefe hinzu, die über diese sexuelle Ebene hinausging. Nebenbei bemerkt fand ich die Storyline wirklich interessant, auch wenn ich oftmals das Gefühl hatte, dass man durchaus mehr über die Wesen und über diese fremde Welt erfahren könnte und sollte - da lag dann aber nunmal der Fokus auf etwas anderem. Nichtsdestotrotz hat mich das Buch gut unterhalten, ich fand die Charakterentwicklungen gut und auch wenn die Storyline vorhersehbar war hat es Spaß gemacht die Geschichte zu lesen. Definitiv kein Must Read, aber eine Reihe, die ich weiter verfolgen möchte :)

Hach ja ... Hat man alles so schon einmal gelesen und die Tropeliste kann man auch nacheinander abhaken. Ich fand die Charaktere ziemlich flach ... Rebellische Protagonistin, die nicht typisch Prinzessin ist und kämpft und dabei nicht auf Papa hört, sich aber ganz selbstlos für ihr Volk opfert, indem sie den sexy Vampirkönig heiratet. Der steht dann natürlich auf Frauen, die ihn hin und wieder Mal abstechen und freche Antworten geben. Alles schon tausendfach so gesehen und gelesen. Zugegeben, das Buch liest sich sehr schnell und unterhaltsam, es ist Recht kurz und ich bin praktisch durch die Seiten geflogen. Der vermeintliche plotwist am Ende war schön über mehrere Kilometer im voraus zu riechen, aber es gibt bestimmt genug LeserInnen da draußen, für die dieses Buch das Erste seiner Art ist. Spice gibt's auch, sogar relativ viel, fand ich jedoch ziemlich oberflächlich und sich wiederholend. Da hab ich schon besseres gelesen. Richtig gefunkt hat's zwischen den beiden Protagonisten für mich nicht.

Spicy Fantasy für Zwischendurch! Ich habe den Schreibstil der Autorin als sehr angenehm empfunden, da er sich meiner Meinung nach wirklich flüssig lesen lässt. Geschrieben ist die Geschichte dabei aus der Sicht der Protagonistin, was einem einen tiefen Einblick in deren Gefühls- und Gedankenwelt ermöglicht. Ich mochte Isolde sehr. Sie war eine wirkliche Badass-Protagonistin, die vor nichts zurückschreckt. Sie lässt sich nicht einschüchtern oder kleinreden, kämpft mit vollem Einsatz für das, was ihr wichtig ist. Dabei schreckt sie auch vor eher blutigen Handlungen nicht zurück. Adrian hingegen kommt erst einmal sehr geheimnisvoll daher. Er wirkt sehr düster und im ersten Moment erst einmal wie "der Böse". Mit der Zeit lernt man ihn dann jedoch besser kennen, fängt an ihn zu verstehen und ihn irgendwie auch ins Herz zu schließen. Ich muss ganz ehrlich sagen, dass das Buch nicht unbedingt mit einem super krassen Plot überzeugen kann, trotzdem fand ich es extrem unterhaltsam. Ich bin einfach nur so durch die Seiten geflogen, weil das ganze trotz der relativ düsteren Thematik etwas unglaublich locker-leichtes an sich hatte. Grundsätzlich hat mir der Twist der eigentlichen Sage auch wirklich gut gefalle. Der Plot war allerdings nicht hundertprozentig rund, das Ende des Buches hat mich jedoch trotzdem den Atem anhalten lassen. Hier wurde es richtig spannend, sodass ich gar nicht mehr aufhören konnte zu lesen. Deswegen freue ich mich auch schon sehr auf Teil 2. Natürlich ist die ganze Geschichte auch super spicy, was den eigentlichen Plot etwas zur Seite getränkt hat. Die Spicy Szenen haben mir aber wirklich gut gefallen. Zudem war die Geschichte besonders aufgrund der Interaktionen zwischen den Charakteren stellenweise wirklich dramatisch, romantisch und emotional. Alles in allem hat mir das Buch also ziemlich gut gefallen, weshalb es von mir 4 Sterne bekommt.
