= pro Eugenik-Drama
Two farmhands, George and Lennie, arrive at their new work. They dream of a better life. An easier life, where they got a small piece of land and tend to the land and live from it. Reality looks quite differently though, since they got chased out of town and away from their old work, since Lennie, the stronger and not as bright one as George, caused a commotion. Lennie, as it turns out to be, causes trouble without really wanting to. — I enjoyed the vibe of the book but I feel like it went down too fast. I was wondering what must have happened before we both met George and Lennie, if Lennie had a similar path of destruction and George managed to clean up Lennies messes better. That George maybe was forced to do what he had to do because there were more witnesses or if George snapped and had enough of Lennie and the problems that came with him. I‘ve read a few reviews of this book and felt like that it wasn‘t that deep for me. There are a lot of analyses of it, how it also can be seen as a play etc. There‘s a lot written about how it is about the American Dream and how reality catches up. As a reader you can definitely sense that and the overall themes are not difficult to grasp. It‘s a nice classic to read inbetween books!
This was raw yet tender, simple yet breathtaking, highly symbolic and truly touching - I think you can tell by the amount of adjectives in this review that I am blown away by this novella.
