The Scarlet Letter was completely different from what I expected. Well, I actually don't know what I expected but not this. I enjoyed reading it immensely. It was a bit hard to get into (epsecially with the introduction) because of the old-fashioned language. But once I had gotten use to it I was hooked. I don't know if I would have enjoyed reading The Scarlet Letter in school but I can understand why it is read so often: it has an extreme potential for discussion and interpretation, just the thing teachers love!

Even though the writing style can be tedious for some and made the book feel even older than it is, I enjoyed it. The prose was well done and the descriptions, though overly long, quite interesting. Yes, few things actually happen , but what did happen did leave a mark. Sure, my morals are different than the ones common back than and I wish there was more charactarization for Hester, but still I was able to feel what the characters were feeling. The story, though very much of its time, was moving and a much faster read than one would think. I liked the writing and character descriptions and especially enjoyed the quiet nature of the story. The dialog was in an older English but still appealed to me. Absolutely not for everyone, but I think it is a book worth reading.
