As someone who had only ever read the more popular Sherlock stories in high school and knew about a few others only from.BBC Sherlock, I loved getting to read the ones not well talked about, and especially the ones that BBC Sherlock eps took their inspiration from. I especially enjoyed all the little connctions between the two Holmes eras. That being said, lord, ACD sure could be a little long winded at times!! And I think I'll wait a bit before starting on Volume 2 and marking it up with sticky notes as well.
