... ich wusste nichts über das Buch, habe mich einfach so drauf eingelassen. Sehr bedrückend, deprimierend und traurig. Ich musste erst einmal meine Tochter ganz fest drücken und ihr sagen, wie sehr ich sie liebe und wie stolz ich auf sie bin... Das Ende des Buches kam nicht überraschend für mich, aber das Ende dann doch sehr abrupt. 3,5 🌟

This was absolutely infuriating. The thing is, that it pulled me in enough to keep me entertained. I can't really describe what bugs me about this - it is probably all the people around mother and daughter who seem to form opinions on the daughter and whether she is dangerous or not. There is a fine line between being mysterious and having an unreliable narrator AND flip flopping so you get a whiplash. Also - pretty much everyone is unlikable in this book. WHAT i did love where the multiple timelines. Those made it more fleshed out and gave room to some thought.

I didn't know much about the story before I started to read (or rather listen) to this book. However, I do have to say I did expect more from it because it is marketed as a thriller. At first I even thought it had potential to develop to a great horror book but them I felt it got a little repetitive and I already knew what would happen. In the end though I did enjoy listening to this story and if you don't expect surprising twists or very much tension but rather an interesting story, I think it's a great book to read. Hence, I gave this book 3 stars.

Thrilling book which I enjoyed reading a lot! It was not that big of a page turner for me but that had nothing to do with the style of writing but more of the topic of motherhood which is far away from my own experience as a 20 year old queer person. Nevertheless I loved the insides and how the different characters developed within the book.

I couldn't lay this book down. Altough I suffer from childhood trauma myself caused by my own mother I was able to empathize with Blythe and even with Cecilia. My heart ached for little Violet who was clearly negleted and traumatized by her mother but I also felt kind of a hate against Violet. Fox made me so angry. Altough he would give the whole world to his daughter he never supported his wife who was the primary care giver for Violet and clearly needed help. He blamed Blythe for everything and didn't believe her when she was concerned about her daughter. The story line with Sam was soul crashing and the plot twist at the end left me with many questions. The book was devastating in a sense of turning your feelings for the main characters upside down. I would recommand this book but it may hold some triggers for people with childhood trauma.

Ja, ich hab auch nicht schlecht geguckt, als ich gemerkt habe, dass nicht nur der Prolog so geschrieben ist. 🙈 ⠀ — Dieses Buch ist vieles. Ein Roman über vier Generationen von Frauen, über Mütter, die mit der Mutterschaft zu kämpfen haben, und über die hohen Erwartungen die die Gesellschaft an diese hat. Man kann Violets Emotionen regelrecht spüren beim Lesen, ob Freude oder Trauer. ⠀ — Hauptsächlich geht aber um sie und ihre Tochter Violet. Mir dieser stimmt etwas überhaupt nicht. Sie ist kalt, grausam, gefährlich. Und Blythe weiß nicht ob sie sich dies nur einbildet oder die einzige ist die, die Wahrheit sieht. ⠀ — Ich würde es als slow burn Thriller bezeichnen, kam aber zügig durch die Handlung. Das Buch hat mich aufgrund des außergewöhnlichen Schreibstils und der Intensität der Handlung ziemlich überrascht. Trotzdem war es leider kein Highlight für mich und hat auch meinen Geschmack nicht so ganz getroffen. Thriller mit creepy Kindern sind wohl nicht so mein Ding. Im Deutschen erschienen unter dem Titel: Der Verdacht Zunächst dachte ich, ich hätte das Buch schon einmal gelesen, weil es dem Titel "Unschuldsengel" so ähnlich war. Beide Bücher handeln nämlich von einem Mädchen, das, nur laut der Mutter, psychopathische Tendenzen hat. Ab ca. Seite 80 gehen die Geschichten aber auseinander. Die Story ist richtig spannend und aufwühlend. Oft habe ich mich gefragt, ob sich die Ich-Erzählerin das mit ihrer Tochter nur einbildet. Gut gefallen hat mir auch der, ab und zu eingeschobene, Rückblick zu dem Verhalten der eigenen Mutter dem Einfluss auf sie selbst und ihr mütterliches Verhalten. Die Kapitel sind super kurz, so dass ich durch das Buch geflogen bin und bei jedem Kapitelende dachte, jetzt nur noch ein weiteres. 😅 Eine eindeutige Leseempfehlung!

Ich hatte keine hohen Erwartungen und habe sehr gemischte Rezensionen darüber gelesen. Es war trotzdem sehr unterhaltsam und machte mich neugierig auf mehr! Durch die kurzen abgehakten Sätze ist der Schreibstil zwar gewöhnungsbedürftig, trägt aber sehr viel zur allgemeinen Stimmung bei, die man beim lesen spürt. 🫢 Die Handlung ist einzigartig, habe etwas in der Art noch nie gelesen! Das Buch zeigt einfach eine ganz andere aber nicht weit hergeholte Art und Weise wie Kinder sein können.. 😶 Alles in allem ein spannendes Buch, das ich auf jeden Fall weiter empfehlen würde! 👍🏼
