This was such a beautiful story! Markus Zusak tells a story about the five Dunbar boys, bringing themselves up, after their mother died and their father left them in the suburbs of Australia. Matthew, the eldest, tells the tale, that follows Clay. The boy who builds the bridge. Literally and metaphorically. The timeline jumps between the lives of the boys and the flashbacks of the young Michael and Penelope, the parents. I found it a little confusing but it didn't slow down the pace of the story. I loved the lovestory of Michael and Penelope. They met, fell in love and had this wonderful family with 5 rowdy boys. And then life happens and Penelope dies of cancer. We follow the world of pain of each of the children. I loved how well fleshed out their individual emotional lives were. Their loss is devastating, especially after their father leaves them. He becomes the Murderer for them. Because on that day the Dunbar boys died. And then there is Clay, looking for his father, for reasons, and the bridge, only he can build. Zusaks writing is rich and mesmerizing. I loved the audiobook and will definetely keep this author on the radar.
