Loved by millions on TikTok but not by me 🥲
So I finally gave in to the TikTok hype and picked up My Dark Romeo, and I’m honestly still trying to figure out why everyone’s obsessed because I just don’t get it 😅 The whole time I was reading, I felt like slapping myself with the book every other chapter. Romeo literally steals Dallas from his enemy and forces her to marry him and then he proceeds to be the most disrespectful, emotionally constipated man ever for like 80% of the story 🙃 Like Dallas, girl, please. I was mentally trying to inject some self-respect into her every time she let him walk all over her. She knew he was trash and just stood there like 🧍🏻♀️ And off course by the end, in classic dark romance fashion, we eventually get a sob story about Romeo’s childhood trauma to “explain” everything, but by then I was already annoyed beyond repair. Like yes, I love a good enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity setup, but there was none of that here. Just a lot of unnecessary meanness and characters that felt more like plot devices than actual people. If the characters had even a smidge more personality or growth, this could’ve been a really compelling story. Sorry if I sound harsh 😅 but this book just wasn’t it for me. 2.5 stars for the drama, and because I wanted to love it… 🫢
