When I saw The Scapegracers and read the synopsis I thought "Lesbian witches, awesome!" but sadly that didn't last. I should've listened to my insticts and DNFed this right at the beginning. I can see why people like it. On a positive note I did enjoy the diversity and the friendship between the girls but everything else was just not for me. What really struck me and put me off the book was the violent language used in it: pulling, scratching, slicing, clawing, screaming, punching, slashing, gnashing, ripping out (teeth and throat) were constantly used as descriptions in the weirdest ways. Plus all those similes and metaphors... It really pulled me out of the story. If you like queer stories, witches and dark themes this might be a book for you. It wasn't for me. Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.
