I really liked the last ~100 pages. The rest was just okay but super unstructured. So much was happening, so many different and new characters and places but nothing felt elaborated, it felt completely random. I wish I had the whimsical fairytale feeling with this like I did with the first one but it was overall just lacking the magic. Still a good ending to this series.

Definitiv nicht so gut wie Band 1. Die Geschichte bzw die Idee selbst finde ich immer noch sehr interessant, aber die Umsetzung hat mit bei Band 2 nicht so gefallen. Ich mochte es nicht, dass die Charaktere nicht wirklich über die Konsequenzen oder ihre nächsten Schritte nachgedacht haben. Sie stürzt immer wieder in ein neues Abenteuer, welche meiner Meinung nach auch plottechnisch nicht so viel Sinn ergeben. Auch das Ende hat mich leider gar nicht überzeugen können. Für mich war es kein gelungener Abschluss der Reihe.

Honestly, the prequel was the best book of this series. Six Crimson Cranes was good and this... was readable? The beginning felt like a bad fanfiction lacking any sense and the ending disappointed me bc it felt as if the author was scared to follow through with what should've happened...

Ich habe bereits den ersten Band geliebt und auch den zweiten nicht weniger gemocht. Auch wenn ich der Meinung war, dass die Geschichte ein wenig schleppend begonnen hat, so konnte ich das Buch am Ende gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Die Reise, welche Shiori gemeinsam mit ihren Freunden und Brüdern durchlebt hat, hat mich tief gefesselt. Ebenso ist die Welt, welche Elizabeth Lim kreiert hat, so detailliert und wundervoll ausgearbeitet, dass man gar Heimweh bekommt, obwohl man diesen Ort nie wahrhaftig betreten hat. Dementsprechend eine klare Empfehlung meinerseits für alle, die bereit dazu sind, sich auf ein magisches Abenteuer einzulassen.

This was a hell of a sequel. Although it wasn't that fast paced I liked every bit of it. It was like a fairytale and the writing was so magical and whimsical. There were some parts that could have been shorter but in general I liked the plot and the solution to the story. The ending broke my heart in little pieces and then made it whole again and I loved every bit of it. All in all I can say that this is a wonderful second book in a duology and I would recommend this to everyone who likes magic, demons, dragons and food cause this is mentioned a lot. So, yeah, I will miss this world a lot.

Something in Asian stories gets me, in a positive way. It feels whimsical and different enough to make me forget dull reality, without being whacky. We (only) have Shiori’s POV but she sees quite a character development, especially in acceptance of her role in life. When the story started out in book one, I wouldn’t have liked her as the spoiled little princess of the beginning - but she grows and becomes more mature while not being perfect. I especially liked her love sub-story with Takkan. He is not just a fighter with buff muscles and simply there for thirst and pining and drama. He supports her while giving his honest thoughts, cares for her without being doting or patronising, and most importantly they learn to build their relationship on trust and talking with one another. This kind of relationship seems to me to not be popular in the Romantasy/Fantasy genre which I think a shame. I won’t give this story a full 5 star rating because: as far as I know it is a duology but it feels like it was supposed to be a trilogy. Somehow second and third instalment didn’t have too much of a plot or would be too drawn out and boring, so some parts were edited out and the shortened plot parts mashed together in one book. To me there was a distinct disconnect between the parts of the travels and no smooth transition. However I had to return the book to the library shortly after starting the next leg of travel, so in the end this might have been the real reason and it reads just fine while zooming through in one go.

Als Vorbereitung für das Buch hab ich die Sechs Kraniche nochmal gelesen und war sofort wieder begeistert von der magischen Welt, die Elizabeth Lim erschaffen hat. Mir gefällt der Schreibstil von ihr, die Storyline packte mich erneut und ich war am Ende sehr gespannt, wie es weitergeht. Grundsätzlich mochte ich die Fortsetzung auch gerne, jedoch gibt's zwei Punkte, die mich gestört haben. Während der Mainplot in Buch eins im Mittelpunkt stand, wie auch der Charakter Wachstum von Shiori, war das in der Schwur des Drachens leider nicht so. Mir gab's einfach zu viele kleine Subplots, die aber gleichzeitig oberflächlich gehalten wurden. Dadurch hatte ich ein wenig das Gefühl, dass so viel wie möglich in dem Buch passieren sollte ohne genügend Details, weshalb mir dann das Ende nicht ganz gefallen hat. Trotzdem hab ich es genossen erneut mit Shiori auf ein Abenteuer zu gehen und mehr in die Welt einzutauchen. Die Magie und der Einfluss von Märchen/Mythen sind für mich ein kleines Highlight in Lim's Büchern und auch hier war es wieder so. Da ich beide Bücher direkt hintereinander gelesen habe, hab ich mich so richtig in die Charaktere verliebt.

WIP (Why? Coz I had to look at the review I gave the first book!) Okay, so this one. I was not 100% satisfied. I shall try to write down why. If you have not read the first book, stop reading now! ------------------------ Alright. Ready? So the first part of this book had Shiori travelling with Seryu to Ai'Long because of the pearl right? The problem I had was that because it was in the first part, I knew this was just a tiny in-between adventure. So I was not really that interested. And to be honest, very little of what happened here played a role in the end. I could have skipped this part. I became more invested in the book when she came back to Kiata. Probably because of Takkan. But then lost interest again because I knew the action starts right when it comes to the end. Then she went to Lapzur to return the pearl. There was Bandur and ghosts and demons. And cranes and a half dragon / half demon. And snakes and the snake queen. But she made it. And then at the near end, everything happened all at once. And I mean all at once. Priests and priestesses, demons, fiendfyre, cranes, paper bird army, gods and more I may have forgotten. So yeah.

Eine sehr magische Geschichte kommt zu ihrem Abschluss! Mich hat der Schreibstil der Autorin wieder wirklich begeistert, weil er sich sehr flüssig und angenehm lesen lässt und gleichzeitigig so bildlich ist, dass man sich alles richtig gut vorstellen kann. Ich mochte auch die Protagonistin Shiori wieder sehr. Sie wirkte auf mich sehr stark, einfühlsam und schreckt nicht vor Herausforderungen zurück. Sie kämpft für das, was ihr wichtig ist und ist eine wirklich sympathische Person, mit der man gerne mitfiebert. Auch Takkan mochte ich wieder sehr. Besonders in diesem Buch lernt man ihn nochmal so viel besser kenne. Er ist liebevoll und intelligent, einfühlsam, protective und eine Person, die man einfach ins Herz schließen muss. Einen ganz besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen hat aber weiterhin der kleine Papiervogel Kiki. Sie ist einfach so unglaublich süß. Mein Herz! Das Worldbuilding konnte mich ebenfalls erneut wirklich begeistern. Alles wirkte so unglaublich magisch, gleichzeitig aber auch so nachvollziehbar beschrieben, dass es gar nicht so wirkte als wäre das ganze wirklich erfunden. Die Idee hinter der Geschichte war wieder absolut genial. Die Geschichte konnte wirklich gut auf den ersten Band aufbauen und blieb dabei fast durchgängig spannen, teilweise actionreich und dramatisch und wirklich emotional. Auch die Lovestory war wieder wirklich süß. Ich weiß gar nicht, was ich sagen soll, weil mein Herz vor Liebe für die beiden fast überläuft. Sie sind einfach so unglaublich süß zusammen. Absolutes Herzklopfen! Generell kamen die Emotionen definitiv nicht zu kurz. Da waren Schock, Freude und Trauer, Liebe und eine Mischung von allem, eine wahre Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle eben. Leider war die Geschichte teilweise jedoch etwas langatmig, da die Charaktere doch einige Zeit mit Hin- und Her-Gelaufe, um mit irgendwelchen Leuten zu reden, verschwenden. Das war teilweise doch etwas zu viel. Nichtsdestotrotz bekommt das Buch alles in allem 4,5 Sterne von mir.

Es passieren 400 von 480 Seiten nichts, Shiori macht wenig selbst außer mit Leuten reden und muss dauernd von anderen gerettet werden und die Mythologie wird noch mehr mit Füßen getreten als im ersten Teil schon. Sehr enttäuschend weil der erste Teil hat zumindest Spaß gemacht trotz seiner Fehler, das hier war aber einfach nur langweilig und Zeitverschwendung.

After reading the first volume, I couldn’t wait to read the second part. The cover was again absolutely gorgeous and it fits the plot perfectly too. Now that I’ve finished the book, I have to say that it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I had to fight my way through part of the book. I felt like the book was split into several parts. The first 30 percent of the book was incredibly exciting and action-packed. I just flew through the pages and couldn’t put the book down. But as soon as Shiori came back from Ailong it got kind of boring and it took me a lot longer to read. Shiori didn’t go through much development for me. In the middle I felt a bit like she was going backwards. I would have liked to read a little more about her brothers and Takkan. The story got really exciting towards the end and I devoured the last chapters again. The book wasn’t bad, but unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the first part of the series at all. I think that’s a bit of a shame, because Elizabeth Lim has a wonderful writing style that can really captivate you. I only have a small reading recommendation.

— Shiori ist eine unglaubliche Protagonistin. Sie ist lebensfroh, liebevoll und frech. Mutig und stark und vorallem hoffnungsvoll. Sie kann lieben und vergeben. Dies zeigt sich auch in ihren Interaktionen mit anderen Charakteren. Shiori baut tiefgehende Beziehungen auf. Mit Kiki, ihren Brüdern, Takan, Seryu... allgemein war einfach alles so schön, authentisch und mit Leben gefüllt wie man es selten liest. 🐲 ⠀ — Allgemein bin ich begeistert vom Schreibstil der Autorin. Er lässt sich fließend lesen und ist unfassbar bildhaft. Es wird eine magische und traumhaft schöne Atmosphäre versprüht und ich habe mich von Seite eins an verliebt. 🫧 ⠀ Zu Band zwei muss ich leider, leider sagen, dass der mich nicht ganz überzeugen konnte. Irgendwie ist der Spannungsbogen in der Mitte untergegangen. Das Ende aber war wunderschön, bittersüß, und ich musste sogar einige Tränen verdrücken. Würde also trotzdem insgesamt so 4 Sterne vergeben. 🩷 ⠀ — Eventuelle 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑! Leider hat Seryu nicht die (große) Rolle gespielt, die ich erhofft hatte. In jeglicher Hinsicht. Wenn man hingegen in Team Takkan gespielt hat, hatte man die (Lese)Zeit seines Lebens. Ich nicht. 🧁

Leider lange nicht so stark wie Band 1. Die Geschichte hatte diesmal einige Längen und ich dachte ca. 5x ich wäre jetzt am Ende der Geschichte angekommen, aber es ging weiter und weiter. Die Auflösung hat mir leider auch nicht sooo gefallen. Die Charaktere sind allerdings weiterhin sehr liebenswert und ganz generell war die Geschichte auch nicht verkehrt. Nur leider viel zu lang. 🙈

The Dragon's Promise ist eine gelungene Fortsetzung von Six Crimson Cranes. Shiori muss mit Kiki an ihrer Seite ein weiteres Abenteuer bewältigen und sich ihren Feinden entgegenstellen. Ich fand die Geschichte sehr bewegend, besonders das Ende! Wem Six Crimson Cranes gefallen hat, der muss dieses Buch einfach lesen!!!

I was a huge fan of the first novel, I loved everything about it. But I feel like there was no need to write another one, because Six Crimson Cranes could easily have been a stand-alone without the last pages. It seems like the magic from the first novel is missing. I really liked the first half, especially Seryu. I've started to realize that I wasn't as engaged in the plot as I would have liked to be. They were some clichés, but they were not overdone. It was in no means bad or whatsoever, just an underwhelming, average read.
