Everything looks like it’s wrong and that it’s falling apart not because it is, but because it’s not finished yet. It’s not a mess – it’s a work in progress. Oh, how I adored this! It gave me a lot of [b: Everybody’s Talking About Jamie|36688674|Everybody's Talking About Jamie|Tom MacRae|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1512015465l/36688674._SY75_.jpg|58484477] vibes but unfortunately, I didn’t love these characters as much as Jamie, Margaret, Ray, or Hugo/Loco Chanelle. Natalie, Robin’s best friend, annoyed me the most. I feel like the author tried to seek conflict, so Natalie turned into a beast towards the middle/end of the book. In my opinion, she overreacted and Robin’s love for drag wasn’t as selfish as she pretended it was. Apart from that, I loved everything. There were so many drag race references (“All right, a little looser. Violet Chachki she ain’t.” to quote one from many). Robin’s mother is just as loveable as Margaret from ETAJ. She loves her son and she’s protective of him but she’s also fierce and speaks her mind (“Virginity is a myth invented by the patriarchy to make women feel bad. It’s now making you feel bad because HELLO, the patriarchy affects everyone, including men.”) Even though I didn’t like Robin as much as Jamie (yes, I can’t help but compare this book to my all-time favourite musical), his relationship with Seth made me grin like an absolute idiot. They were adorable together. I was also delighted to find out that the author’s also a drag queen! This book is so camp and so much fun to read.
