Updated Review: 2024 re-read I enjoyed this way more the second time around. It wasn’t hard to keep up with the characters and storylines, so basically the same experience I had while re-reading HOEAB. Really sad that the chemistry between Hunt and Bryce isn’t as strong as in the first book. I thought it might have been due to the long wait I had the first time around, but reading them back to back also didn’t bring the chemistry. I actually wasn’t too annoyed Tharion‘s POV and I surprisingly really enjoyed Ithans. Night and Day storyline didn’t hit as much this time, idk why. What did hit was that ending. My god the last 50 pages had me in a chokehold. WHAT was that ending and why do I have to wait a year for the next book??? I knew we‘d get something shocking but damn. I don’t even know where to start, so I‘ll start with the end. Hunt becoming a slave again just shattered my soul. Why put him through that shit again? He has been through enough and honestly I totally get why he was against getting involved in everything. The way Hunt acted and what he said made total sense and I will back him up any day. And him being wary of Celestina in the beginning also made total sense, and made it should‘ve stayed that way. The way he became all feral when Bryce was in danger, I am here for this shit. Bryce was just as I remembered her. She doesn’t back down from anything and she didn’t lose her sass. I liked seeing her more vulnerable in this book and she grew in sharing her feelings, at least with Hunt. She made some bad decisions but I don’t hold them against her. The way she tricked everyone and found Emile and made sure she was safe just made me love her more. Suprisingly I enjoyed their relationship in the first book more, because back then they weren’t „mates“ and I preferred that. Them choosing each other and having a deep connection, based on understanding and love. I love the concept of mates, but Sarah is currently ruining the concept and what makes it so special. It‘s used as a plot device and I hate that. On that note though, I love that Baxian and Danika were mates/ had a relationship.I immediately liked Baxian. Don’t know why, just the way he backs them all up, helps them and him just wanting to be part of their gang spoke to me I guess. I agree with the people who say Tharions storyline was annoying at times. It was just frustrating to read about. I don’t agree with his ways and the way out of his problems was to sell himself? Just doesn’t sit right with me. I feel like Sarah is loosing her touch a little bit, but that’s a discussion for another day. Ithan was such a pleasant surprise for me. I enjoyed reading about him and hearing his thoughts. I love how he found a pack again and is finding himself after all that’s happened. Ruhn, what am I supposed to say for you? Didn’t expect anything that came my way in his storyline but I was here for everything. His storyline with Agent Daybright had me giggling. The banter, the tension, the angst. Just FUCK yeah. I also forgot how fun Declan and Flynn are. Flynn finally got his own little cheer squad . Declan is such an underrated character. He carried in this. No word needed. Regarding the storyline, I thought we‘d be getting more action. CC1 for me was such a fun book and the last 200 pages had me in a frenzy. This book, although we got a lot of infos and a lot happened, was slower and it did feel like a filler/ set up book. Still enjoyed it, but it was more character driven and pushing the characters into their new roles. So regarding the crossover, I haven’t watched the interview with Sarah where she talks about everything but I have an opinion. I do in theory like the idea, but that shit could go so wrong. It’s a lot of characters and in trying to combine all of them she could stray away from what made each of them so special. We already saw that she lost touch with some of her characters, like Rhysand in ACOSF when he kept the pregnancy issue from Feyre, and Azriel giving something that he bought for Elain to Gwyn. So out of character for them. Sarah created characters that we love so dearly and I am just afraid that she is taking up to much by doing this crossover. I know there where hints in the other books and it seems like it‘s been in the planning for a while, but I just hope its good.

Okay wow. SJM is the Queen of plotting and making the reader go crazy. I love the dynamic of Bryce and Hunt. Oh and don’t get me started on the plot twist in the last chapter - loved it! I like that SJM gives all of her characters so much depth and background. This book had me feeling so giddy as I wanted to know what’s going to happen next and what we will discover on the next pages.

Vorweg: Ich finde die Crescent City Reihe schwächer als ACOTAR. There, I said it. Warum? Die Motivationen der einzelnen Charaktere sind weniger ausgereift (kein Wunder, es sind auch einfach zu viele!!), die Handlungsstrenge teilweise mit Mühe daher gezogen, die spicy Szenen berühren mich aus irgendeinem Grund nicht so wie in ACOTAR und: jetzt am Ende von Teil kann ich zwar sagen, dass ich verstehe, warum Sarah J. Mass in Crescent City den Aufbau so dicht gestaltet, aber wenn sie wirklich so viele Ideen und Storylines in ein Buch packen möchte, dann braucht man halt auch mehr Seiten als die 800. Die Balance ist halt ein klein wenig off, also zu gewollt in zu kurzer Zeit und gleichzeitig hin und wieder fad. Ändert nichts dran, dass ich die 800 Seiten trotzdem sehr gerne gelesen habe und ich mir morgen direkt Teil 3 von Crescent City holen werde. Aber falls jemand überlegt in die Welt dieser Bücher einzutauchen: startet unbedingt mit ACOTAR!

War schon spannend und man wollte die ganze Zeit weiter lesen, Teil 1 hat mir aber deutlich besser gefallen. Das Ende war trotzdem super spannend und ich werde auf jeden Fall Teil 3 lesen! Zwischendurch war dieser Teil ziemlich langwierig und fast ein wenig zu politisch. Die Charaktere haben sich jedoch sehr stark entwickelt im Laufe dieses Teiles und Bryce ist mir sehr stark ans Herz gewachsen.

Ihr wisst, das Maasverse hält mich fest in seinen Klauen 🤫🥹 kann mir mal bitte wer in den Popo treten? Warum habe ich damit nicht viel eher angefangen???? Dank geht raus an Janne, der mich gezwungen hat nach dem Motto über Weihnachten hast du doch Zeit, wenn nicht jetzt wann dann so ein Brecher? Es war so atemberaubend gut, so schnell und so voller Informationen und ein Reveal folgte dem nächsten. Man ist wirklich aus dem Staunen irgendwie nicht mehr rausgekommen 😅 ich saß mindestens jedes 5 Kapitel mit offenem Mund am Ende, weil wieder irgendwas krasses offenbart wurde :D Bryce & Hunt & ihre Freundesbubble müssen noch näher zusammenrücken & entscheiden, was eichtig und was falscht ist. Unterstützen sie die gewalttätigen Rebellen oder gehen sie ihren eigenen Weg? Und wer könnte da alles in die Quere kommen? :D Wir haben wieder ganz im Maasstyle unterschiedliche POVs was dem ganzen nochmal so viel mehr Spannung gibt. Ich kann nicht viel mehr dazu sagen, als dass es der beste zweite Teil einer Reihe war, den ich je gelesen habe! Ich habe jetzt etwas Angst, dass Teil 3 damit ein bisschen zum Reihentief wird, aber das weiß ich ja noch gar nicht 🤫 Außerdem kenne ich jetzt ennnnnnddddlllichhhh das zurecht gehypete Ende von CC2 🥹 und bin einfach nur EXTREM gespannt, wie es weiter geht

Allora, la faccio in breve, perché tanto è un seguito, quindi se non hai mai letto nulla della Maas, vedi se il primo ti prende, decidi se recuperare tutti gli altri e poi se vuoi possiamo sgolarci fino all'anno prossimo. Per l'85% di questo libro ho passato il tempo ad annoiarmi, nel senso che io ho avuto questo scimmietta idrofobica sulla spalla da quando ho finito il primo libro che stavo contando i cazzo di giorni. Che poi il primo libro poteva essere tranquillamente uno standalone, ma no! La Maas ha messo quel cazzo di epilogo a rovinare tutto e io continuavo a saltare come una deficiente per far passare il tempo per capire che cazzo volevano dire Aidas e Jebsida con quella cosa su Bryce e Hunt. E per tutte le 700 e passa pagine che ho letto non avendo nulla di tutto ciò mi stavo anche stancando... poi nelle ultime 50? 60 pagine? IL FINIMONDO. Come nel primo, passi più di metà libro a cercare di capire dove vuole andare a parare, arrivi alla fine che tutto si sbroglia in modo chiaro e finisce tutto in vacca per colpa di quanto se la tira il cattivo di turno (e dico questo solo per evitare spoiler del primo) ... comunque ... in questo libro è identico per ritmo ma non per finale. No... il finale è peggio (immaginativi qui la voce di Smigol che ti minaccia di squartarti in due per il suo tesoro, ecco...). Com'è possibile che NESSUNO SAPESSE NULLA DI LEI, MANCO LA SUA CONINQUILINA?!?!?!?!?!? Cioè ho passato letteralmente l'85% a leggerle di plot twist legati a DANIKA! Ha avuto relazioni con i ribelli. Aveva un compagno che nessuno sapeva della sua esistenza tranne Thorne che a quanto pareva ha ricevuto il fatidico 2 di picche. Pure i suoi veri poteri Bryce non conosceva e praticamente decantava di esser la migliore amica sua. Ma tutto questo non conta un cazzo per colpa del plot twist finale. Quello che mi ha fatto volare sopra le nuvole per poi precipitare in fondo alla fossa delle Marianne lasciandoli lì inerte e moribonda. Gli Asteri provengono da un mondo parallelo e hanno costruito Midgard per cibarsi della primaluce dei Vanir e delle seconda luce quando muoiono. *BOOOOOOOOM* E io qua sentivo la puzza di marcio e bruciato che la Maas mi stava per tirare in faccia. No perché io voglio morire con quel cazzo di finale di merda. Che poi, vuol dire che avremo una serie della Maas sui Aidan e Apollonio? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sono passati due giorni: no, non c'entra il destino di quelli a Midgard e non centra il fatto che Bryve è da Rhy e Feyra. Il problema è quel momento in cui vengono descritti Rhysand e Mor: - Mor con gli occhi alla stessa angolazione di Fury - Rhysand con la stessa postura, capelli e occhi del fratello di Bryce. E tutto si collega. TUTTO TUTTI I LIBRI SONO COLLEGATI. TUTTI I DANNATI LIBRI Bryce ha i stessi capelli di Lucien. Il potere di Cormac e Rhun con le ombre è quello di Rhys. Il Fuoco di Aelin è quello della Corte d'Autunno. Da dove viene Mor? è una Astera? Lo è anche L'Intaglia Ossa? Che legame c'è tra Fury e Mor? Quindi adesso la mia domanda è spontanea: la Regina Theia è Elena di TOG, con un nome diverso? I mostri che si impossessano dei corpi in TOG sono legati agli Asteri? Avremo mai la storia di Aidas e Theia? Avremo la storia del pianeta degli Inferi?

Ich weiß ja nicht…das was an Spice im ersten Teil gefehlt hat, wurde jetzt im Übermaß nachgeholt? But whyyyy???!!! Was war diese eine Szene, was bin ich lesend??? Die Neben-Lovestory hat mit abgeholt. Zucker. Aber Bryce und Hunt…Brudi, ne. Plot war gut! Lies sich gut blättern. Mir zwar zu viele Perspektiven, weniger hätte ich besser gefunden, aber man muss ja auf seine 800+ Seiten kommen, newa ;)

War nicht so gut wie Teil 1 für mich. Zu oft haben die Charaktere mit ihren Genitalien gedacht und die Sexszenen waren viele, aber immer wieder das gleiche. Nur halt mit wechselnden Charakteren... Da kam für mich die Story ein bisschen zu kurz. Das Ende war aber wieder super spannend, da möchte man schon weiterlesen. 😅

As I mentioned in my House of Earth and Blood review, I had a very hard time getting into this series because it’s such a vast world with so many characters you can’t afford to forget. I had the same struggle with this book at the beginning. Once again, we’re introduced to a dozen new characters—this time, the Ophion Rebels. I read this book right after HOEAB and still had to get used to all the new names and the new plot. By the time the prologue became relevant again, I had already forgotten half of the names mentioned. But that might just be a personal issue. That said, I loved this book even more than the first one. Sure, some plots do feel exaggerated and seem to exist just for the “surprise!” factor, but honestly, that’s just Sarah J. Maas’s style—it happens in every one of her books if you look closely. Does that make the book worse, though? Honestly, it depends. If you’re looking for plots that always make perfect sense and hate random power-ups that aren’t earned through training, you might not be entirely satisfied with any of Sarah J. Maas’s books. But if you’re a casual fantasy reader who also enjoys romance and doesn’t overthink the plot, you’ll love this series! I’m not a big fan of romantasy myself, especially when the characters are constantly thinking about sex, and I usually prefer plots that feel more grounded. But I still enjoyed this book, just like I’ve enjoyed all of Sarah J. Maas’s books, so I can’t say I wouldn’t read it again!

800 pages later and I'm still lacking the words to describe the emotional rollercoaster that reading this book was. SJM has this impressive talent to hit you with the most unexpected twists at the most unexpected times. Was it a healthy reading experience? I'm not entirely sure. Would I read it again? Absolutely. Oh, and the ending? Yeah. I have so many questions.

Für mich einfach nur WOW So viele spannende, emotional aufwühlende und herzerfrischende Einzelstories und Schicksale verwoben zu einem großen Ganzen! Ich lieb‘s einfach! Super spannend, gut zu lesen, tolle Charaktere, lustig und traurig! Einfach alles drin! Mir hat es fast noch besser gefallen als der erste Teil! Zum Glück kann ich gleich mit dem dritten und letzten Teil starten! 🥰

Der Prolog hat es in sich und setzt schön auf was unsere Protagonisten diesmal erwartet. Wem die Paralellen zur NS noch nicht aufgefallen sind, bekommt sie im Prolog auf dem Teller serviert. Rebellion ist immer blutig und nichts ist simpel schwarz/weiss. Wie im echten Leben, und Serien wie z.B. Hunger Games, sind wir hier mit einer Seite der Rebellion konfrontiert welche am Ziel vorbei schiesst. Wo der Hass so tief ist, dass es die Leute blind macht und es kein zurück mehr gibt. Es geht ein bisschen lange bis das Buch zum Punkt kommt, neue Charaktere werden eingeführt und politische Konflikte haben vorerst das Rampenlicht. Dafür macht es die Welt nochmal etwas eingelebter. Der Schluss dann ist einfach nur noch ein WTF-Moment. Bin gespannt wie's im dritten Teil dann mit dem Crossover weitergeht. Sehr spannend.

I am screaming crying throwing up. There are no words. My mind exploded at least a dozen times reading this and for sure during the last 50ish pages or so. Sarah's an effing genius and relishes putting us through pain. I love it. I love it and I hate that we don't even have a title or release date estimate. Read this monstrosity it'll absolutely vaporize the remainders of your sanity but I promise it'll be worth it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reread: 5* still holds. The cliffhanger is still brutal but the next is out in 2 days and I'm so excited to find out more about all the revelations and new questions hosab posed

Well, from chapter 72 onwards, the book got really interesting. However, for a book with 78 chapters, that's not a good sign lol I was also really debating about whether I should put this book on my dnf shelf, but technically I read it until the end, I was just very generous with skipping around in the middle. Because guess what? Most of the chapters did not contribute a single thing to the plot! So yeah, obviously I will not be reading the third book (there is a good summary of the whole series on the blog of Charnell, I read the summary for House of Flame and Shadow on there and it only solidified my opinion which is that this whole series has no reason to have this many pages and is actually very boring and filled with random side plots and sex and has the worst worldbuilding (or like, a non-existing worldbuilding)

It’s not like I won’t read the next book in the series, but it was just bad. The ending had me screaming but not in a good way. I’ll just pretend this one doesn’t exist. What a waste of time. Update: okay… after cooling of and processing what I just read, I’m actually curious how SJM will take this mess and make another story out of it. AND PLS BE FAST BC I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER 2 YEARS!

Really enjoyed the ending, I got super excited on the last 100-50 pages but the first 700 pages of this book..? Soo slow. It was all just detective work and smut. Not that I‘m complaining about smut. But the plot progresses soo slowly (which would be fine if the book instead focused on character development but it doesn’t). There is almost no story progression and somehow I didn’t like Hunt in this book even though I really liked him in the first one. Also, Bryce was kind of annoying in this book. Three stars because I loved the Day and Night storyline and because the ending was just amazing, otherwise I‘d probably rate this two stars.

Late to the party, aber holy shit. Ich weiß nicht wie ich es geschafft hab so lange ohne mich spoilern zu lassen und bin dementsprechend gerade völlig durch. DAS ENDE???? Es ist kurz nach Mitternacht und ich muss jetzt leider direkt weiterlesen Kurzes Review: Band 1 war deutlich stärker, aber nichtsdestotrotz ein starkes Buch. Gerade die Entwicklung mit Night und Day ist absolut toll. Auch andere Charaktere bekommen mehr Präsenz und zeigen was sie können. Es ist halt ein Buch das zu etwas hin führt und man merkt das. Aber holy shit waren da plot twits dabei, junge ey.

6 Sterne. Oh mein Gott. Das hat sie jetzt nicht gemacht. Das passiert hier wirklich oder , ich hab das gerade richtig gelesen oder. Wenn ich nur Träume oder mich verlesen habe , weckt mich nicht , lasst mir diesen wunderwunderbaren Traum. Das Ende war so krass , erst so war ich so voll geschockt, dann traurig , dass hab ich mitgefiebert und dann diese letzten zehn Seiten waren nur so Nein, bestimmt nicht oder , oder doch. Liege ich mit meiner Vermutung richtig , der letzte Satz hat mir ja bestätigt , ich mein hab nur noch gequietsch auf diesen letzten zehn Seiten. Wie gesagt , wenn das ein Traum ist , weckt mich nicht auf , bitte es ist gerade so so schön. Nur so mal ganz nebenbei das Buch ist auch gut verständlich dafür dass es Highfantasy auf Englisch ist, ich hatte jetzt nie irgendwelche Probleme , dass ich nicht mitbekommen haben was gerade los , das fand ich echt gut. So bevor ich noch weiter rumquietsche reden wir über den Schreibstil. Der war halt Sarah J Maas , was will man dazu noch sagen , eine so detaillierte und bildhafte Welt , die einem nahe geht und in einen Sog zieht, fast hätte ich gestern dafür meinen Schlafrhytmus getötet, aber auch nur fast. Obwohl ich wie gesagt auf Englisch gelesen hab , bin ich auch echt schnell durchgekommen, wäre keine Schule gewesen wäre ich auch viel früher fertig gewesen. Und wie schon gesagt, das Buch hat so einen Sog , wegen dem ich auch nicht im Buchladen daran vorbei gehen konnte, obwohl ich es schon vorbestellt hab. Aber egal ich schweife ab. Machen wir lieber gleich weiter mit dem Worldbuilding wie schon viele wissen teilweise sehr kompliziert, aber durch das neue was ich in dem Teil noch dazu gelernt , sehr krass , ich war einfach nur mind-fucked. Wie kommt man auf sowas ich würde das auch gerne können. Als nächstes die Charaktere, ich muss sagen ich liebe sie. Bryce und Hunt besonders , weil die beiden haben halt was. Bryce zum Beispiel ist so schön Badass und trotzdem sorgt sie sich auch echt um andere und ich bin verdammt froh, dass es ihr besser geht als in Teil 1. Kurz mal zu Danika klar ich mag sie immer noch , aber dieses sie wusste etwas und hat es nicht gesagt nervt ganz schön. So jetzt zu Hunt , oh ich hatte teilweise so Angst dass der zum neuen Tamlin wird , weil bei so manchen Sachen , wie gesagt ich hatte so Angst , aber zum Glück ist das nicht passiert. Aber jetzt mach ich mir trotzdem Sorgen um ihn , ich mein nach diesem Ende, da mach ich mir Sorgen. Warum kann Sarah nicht einfach mal ihre Charaktere glücklich lassen ? Auch alle anderen Nebencharaktere sind toll, nur wenn ich jetzt noch auf die eingehe , wer weiß wann ich dann hier fertig werde. So als letztes die Story, ich hab nur ein Wort , Mind-fucked. Es so verdammt viel mal wieder passiert und es war ein ständiges Auf und Ab. Manchmal hab ich gelacht , dann war ich total überrascht und am Ende hab ich halt gequietscht. Und dann zu so einer guten Story noch der Spice das war perfekt. Die zweiten Teile bei Sarah J Maas Bücher sind halt immer gut. Ich will am liebsten jetzt Band drei , ich brauch das jetzt , ich mein nach so einem Ende brauch ich das eigentlich jetzt. Das Buch ist auf jeden Fall ein Highlight für mich , lest es.
