Wow. Ich habe einfach keine Worte. Dieses Buch war so unbeschreiblich gut und hatt alle meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Ich war absoluter throne of glass fan und ich bin so froh dass ich jetzt getrost sagen kann dass crescent city für mich echt nah da ran kommt. Das Buch hat mich total abgeholt und ich könnte nicht dankbarer sein.

Ohne den Klappentext gelesen zu haben hat mich auch diese Welt von Sarah J Maas rücksichtslos in ihren Bann gezogen. Der Brocken von Buch hält mit den Beschreibungen der Welt, der Crescent City und ihrer Bewohner was er verspricht. Der Anfang ließt sich schon gut, der Lesefluss steigert sich über die Kapitel hinweg aber in einen Lesewahn der mich mit aller Macht mitgerissen hat. Die Geschichte von und um Bryce hat mit dem Buch einen meisterhaften Auftakt und setzt die Latte für die Folgebände nicht gerade niedrig. Ich freue mich auf mehr!

Ich bin ja schon seit einiger Zeit ein großer Sarah J. Maas Fan und auch Crescent City ist einfach nur großartig - zumindest schon mal der erste Teil! Hatte diesen bereits als Hörbuch gehört und jetzt auch gelesen (in englisch). Hab zunächst etwas gebraucht, um in den Stil reinzukommen - dabei hat mir die Erinnerung an das Hörbuch und die Inhalte geholfen! Aber dann war ich einfach nur begeistert! Tolle Charaktere super spannende Geschichte! Ist von allem etwas dabei… Liebesgeschichte … Krimi … und sogar Gesellschaftskritik sowie einstehen und kämpfen gegen Unrecht! Und das alles als Fantasy!! Liebs einfach! ♥️ Band zwei wird gleich angefangen und der dritte Teil wartet auch bereits auf meinem SuB! (Und als Hörbücher 😂)

This has been a Hel of a ride (and yes, I‘m somewhat proud of that bad pun). I hardly ever read books of that length because I know it takes me so long. But Crescent City really took its time too. I haven't read any S.J. Maas books before, so I didn't fully know what to expect. Even though I own a copy in German, I soon switched to English because it really is more bearable, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. I don't think the translation was terrible; it just amplified the already upfront and really colourful language. As this is an adult fantasy book, I was somewhat expecting it, but honestly, do they ever stop swearing? Simply scratch all the fucks and gods-damns, for the love of God! Although I do know why it's essential to the plot, the first part of the book was tough to read, because it just took so long. I can only agree with quite a few people who said the book would get better if you stick around. I started out having a hard time with Bryce, simply because her attitude didn't make her sympathetic. Plus, all the swearing just made her look fucking gods-damned childish. I love me a great female protagonist, but Bryce was just too much sometimes. It made sense at some point if you will. One thing I‘m in two minds about is that every character seems to be too perfect, too good to be true. There‘s more to a great (new adult) character than having the looks, the powers, the ideal personality etc. If you get me, it‘s just too much here. But, there are great characters too: Ruhn, Lehaba, the Queen of witches, and Danika and the Pack of Devils, to name a few. I‘ve heard that Maas has a thing for killing off characters just right when you‘d get attached because they‘re actually wonderful - I get it now! But I also don‘t - like why? The world-building was a struggle because it was all a little too much and too many details when details weren‘t needed. I lost count on things and know less than half of the character‘s and place‘s names. It also felt like this plot twist just happened so she could stretch out the plot for a couple more chapters. 3 stars, because it wasn‘t bad, but also not good.
