Sadly disappointing
While I didn't love books 1+2 they felt solid this is one though was kind of a mess. The pacing in the first half felt very off and it almost felt like nothing was really happening it was just misery porn. Then in the second half the pacing picks up which is good but every "big moment" was only a chapter long so they felt a little rushed. Keera also learns a lot of new powers in this book which just kinda replace her already existing skills and they feel very convienient sometimes. I think logic was overthrown here to have some badass imagery. What bothered me most though was the whole romantic relationship. First off it kinda threw me off that our 2 LIs are a wreck. One has severe chronic pain and the other is a grief strucken, traumatized alcoholic yet they both feel up to fuck multiple times in this book which just felt very inauthentic to me. I think Blair kind of felt the need for this book to still be considered Romantasy so you need romance+sex but it didn't make any sense in my opinion in this book to be so prevelant given the current situation of the plot/characters. I also HATED the Twist in the end regarding their relationship and how easily Keera forgave Riven. This plotpoint again felt like the author had a cool idea, something to say and explore but then was constricted by the genre she begun this series in. Also Nikolais mum was a plot device instead of a character 2 times and arguably got fridged so meh to that. I will finish this series but feeling very much disappointed by this book.
