Nah, all I can say is no. I wanted to like this. It had potential. But it just didn't do it for me. The ending was god awful and I honestly just skimmed the last 10 pages, because why would I bore myself that much. The "plot-twist" was so unnecessary and like not my thing at all. Also why does the heroin always have to be like "oh, I need to save the day. How can I help all these people?" Be selfish bitch. Show some backbone. I didn't give a flying fuck about her sister to her mom. What kind of representation was that. Raffe was supposed to be flirty and witty but his remarks didn't really hit the mark. The book was too long without actually achieving anything. Instead of being a nostalgic throwback to the 2012, I was bored even though there was always something going on. I just didn't connect with the characters at all. Thanks for coming to my rant...

Dieses Buch ist der Beweis dafür, dass es nicht 600 Seiten braucht, um ein Setting zu etablieren und eine epischen Handlung zu kreieren. Hätte ich nicht gerade beruflich so viel um die Ohren, ich hätte das Buch an einem Tag verschlungen. Der Anfang des Buches hat mich arg an die Angelussaga von Marah Woolf erinnert. Und die Grundidee ist tatsächlich ähnlich. Die Geschichte geht dann allerdings nach den ersten paar Seiten in eine andere Richtung. Und in was für einer Geschwindigkeit. Dieses Buch hat keine Längen und keine Überbrückungen. Es ist voller Action und man fliegt nur so durch die Seiten. Und es ist düster. Düsterer, als ich dachte. Heilige Scheisse ist die Mutter unheimlich. Und das gesamte letzten Viertel des Buches ist nichts für schwache Nerven. Man wird bei 210 km/h aus der Geschichte geschmissen und bleibt atemlos, ein bisschen angewidert und vor allem gespannt zurück. Ich freu mich sehr auf den zweiten Teil!

Update 11/15/12: OH MY GOD. Have you heard? Sam Raimi is going to turn this book into a movie. That is just awesome! I'm so excited for Susan. Review: I loved this book. It made me laugh, cry, sob, smile, think, grumble and frown... sometimes even at the same time :-) Every time i couldn't read the book, i waited anxiously to get back to it. It had everything i wish in a book, and that perfectly balanced. Really a great book!

Seit vor zwei Monaten die Engel auftauchten und die Welt ins Chaos stürzten, zählt für Penryn Young nur noch eines: Sie muss ihre Familie schützen. Doch dann wird ihre kleine Schwester Paige entführt und Penryn bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als sich mit dem Feind zu verbünden. „Auch wenn es ironisch klingt: Seit den Angriffen sind die Sonnenuntergänge herrlich.“ Die 17-jährige Penryn ist seit Jahren für ihre Mutter und im Rollstuhl sitzende Schwester verantwortlich. Vor zwei Monaten war das noch eine zu bewältigende Aufgabe, doch als plötzlich Engel auftauchen und eine Spur der Verwüstung hinterlassen, verstärkt sich der Druck auf Penryn. Was die Engel wollen oder wieso sie plötzlich ihr Unwesen unter den Menschen treiben, weiß niemand. Nur eines steht fest: sie sind gefährlich. Schon in der ersten Szene muss Penryn eine ziemlich ausweglose Situation bewältigen. Wer nun aber glaubt, sie würde sich – wie in YA-Romanen weit verbreitet – erstmal in die nächste Ecke verziehen und solange Trübsal blasen, bis der männliche Protagonist auftaucht, sollte sich auf einiges gefasst machen. Denn Passivität ist nichts auf das Penryn steht. Sie denkt nach und handelt, kann sich selbst verteidigen und kommt auch ohne einen männlichen Beschützer mehr als gut zurecht. Das bedeutet für die Story, dass es nur wenige ruhige Momente und noch weniger der Sorte „Ich zerfließe jetzt mal kurz in Selbstmitleid“ gibt. (Was für eine Wohltat!) Aufgrund ihres bisherigen Lebens und der unsicheren Lage seit dem Auftauchen der Engel, kann man Penryn nicht gerade als zutraulich bezeichnen. Sie handelt kalkuliert und meist zum Wohl ihrer Familie (was Gewissensbisse nicht ausschließt!) und genau aus diesem Antrieb heraus bildet sich das kurioseste Team dieser Story: Penryn und der Engel Raffe. Beide wissen, dass sie gemeinsam die größte Chance haben ihre Ziele zu erreichen und so beginnt für sie eine abwechslungsreiche Reise. Ihre Interaktionen sind definitiv ein Highlight und Penryn knipst nicht sofort mit Raffes Auftauchen ihr Hirn aus, um unentwegt über sein Aussehen zu schwafeln. Zwischen den beiden herrscht eine glaubwürdige Chemie und Balance, und sowohl Penryn als auch Raffe haben echte Motive, die sie unabhängig voneinander verfolgen und die Story damit stetig vorantreiben. Die Seiten fliegen regelrecht am Leser vorbei, weil man wissen muss, was als nächstes mit den Charakteren geschieht. Angelfall ist ein origineller Auftakt einer Reihe, erzählt von einem der coolsten weiblichen Charaktere und angereichert mit Wendungen und jede Menge düsterer Action.

OH. MY. GOD !!!!! What did I just read?! Seriously, that wasn't what I expected. I knew it's about angels and an apocalypse. Well, I read a few angel books before so I was expecting something similar but this? Noooo, that was SOO much better!! I'm keeping this short because my mind is still blown away but let me tell you: IT WAS AMAZING! Penryn (such a pretty name!) is an awesome character - she's clever, she thinks before she acts, she's brave but also stubborn, she's determined to find her sister again and really, really badass! It always makes me happy to read about characters that aren't completely blinded by love or stupidness and that aren't constantly in danger so someone has to rescue them - Penryn is the exact opposite of that! I loved her right from the beginning and throughout the book my love grew bigger and bigger! Raffe is the next good thing - the fact that he and all the others aren't "normal" angels (i mean the ones we usually read about - good and nice ones that protect people or so) was so interesting and refreshing! It makes the book darker and a lot more creepier but soooo good! Raffe is mysterious, sexy and just really, really cool. A character I need to know more about ... like RIGHT NOW! The story was fast-paced, thrilling and very well written! I couldn't and did't want to put it down - I always wanted to know what happens next ... a real page-turner! Well and the end was BOMBASTIC! Everything was detailed and very easy to picture Especially the gross parts ... the scorpion angels?Ugh. And the kids? Those "demons" or whatever they are? Horrible things but damn awesome too. God, I love this kind of crazy stuff! The ending was definitely one of my favorite parts and yeeees, i even got teary eyes at some points. Great, I should have picked up book number 2 immediately but I'll definitely read it as soon as possible! 1.5 I really wanted to like this book though I was very sceptical before starting this book. It all started out well and interesting. An apocalypitc world, a strong heroine on a mission. But here I am, done with this books and have no answers AT ALL. WHAT happened (besides destroyed houses)?? WHY did the angels come down? No background information, no explanation. Instead of giving answers and developing a decent plot, the story get lost in unimportant details and repeating things again and again. Until the end (which is a ridiculous ending) there is almost no action in the plot, it's just dragging on and on. The mother? Totally nuts (not meant in a good way) I liked Penryn at the beginning but over the book I lost the connection with her. Seems like she is the only woman left on this planet who can actually save it. The rest of them has to prostitute themselves in glitter dresses to the angels. Raffe -> boring and shallow. The chemistry between Penryn and Raffe was almost not existent. I couldn't feel one sparkle between them. That ending...oh please!!! I seriously have no words for this crap. It was so bad/ridiculous that I almost started laughing. *deleted from my Kindle*
