3.5 ⭐️ The pacing of this book was a bit off to me. The first third felt really slow, after that it picked up a lot of sped and things happened all at once. If you are completely unfamiliar with stories about ancient China I would say this is not the book to get you started. However, if you already enjoy those it’s a good one and I liked the emphasis on women’s medicine.

: I love history and I love it more when a book is well-researched, I read more on Tan Yunxian and it was fascinating to say the least. The book follows the Life of Tan and the women around her, how they grew to be a strong supportive circle, while also dealing with practicing medicine in a time woman were just expected to be educated on pleasing the husband and the in-laws. It was heartbreaking at times, but I couldn’t stop listening to it and I will get a physical copy of the book as it’s worth rereading. If you have read “Good Earth” you might like this book as well.
