Since I stumbled upon "Sorcery of Thorns" kinda per accident (shame on me) and absolutely LOVED it, there wasn't even the slightest possibility NOT to read this little gem. Maybe it was kind of unnecessary and you really have to adore the previous book to enjoy it this much, but I did. It could have been a little bit "more" tho :)

"Mysteries of Thorn Manor" picks up after "Sorcery of Thorns" as the old wards of Thorn Manor trap Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Silas, and Mercy inside the house. They soon find out that the magic was cast to adhere to old-fashioned notions of courtship, and the inhabitants of the house set out to find a solution to fight this old magic. This novella is much more light-hearted than "Sorcery of Thorn", more like a fan fiction plot focusing on the relationship between Elizabeth and Nathaniel, as well as the day-to-day life in Thorn Manor of all four of its inhabitants. The magical problem is not as dire as in the main novel, but the writing is still as nice and interesting, we still see quite a bit of glimpses into the world behind "Sorcery of Thorns" and into the relationships of the characters we met in the novel. I can really recommend this novella for fans of "Sorcery of Thorns" and am now hoping for another sequel detailing some adventure for Silas, because both the novel and this novella hint that there is still more to know about him.

3.5 ✨ So after I finished the Sorcery of Thorns, I needed fluffy and magical input ASAP. Luckily for me, this novel was released in January – so I could stay in this world with Elizabeth and Nathaniel (or even with Silas?) a little more. Mysteries of Thorn Manor takes place a few months after the end of Sorcery of Thorns. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are living a mostly quiet and mundane life in the manor, until the day they wake up to the manor having barricaded itself against the outside world. No one can come in or leave the manor, and things only seem to get worse when violent topiaries and deadly winds get thrown into the mix. Elisabeth and Nathaniel must figure out why the manor reacted this way, and how to fix it before somebody gets hurt. I laughed so hard and so often throughout this short little book, because of Nathaniel wit -it absolutely shines here. Mysteries of Thorn Manor depicts so much domestic bliss that we really get a chance to see how silly and playful he is with Elisabeth on a daily basis, and it's delightful. It felt so genuine, like looking into a real, breathing romance between two goofy best friends, and I adored it. And then, of course, I couldn't finish this review without touching on Silas. I adored the sweet, tender moments between him and Elisabeth. I'm a sucker for intimate found family moments, and we get plenty of those in this novella. No spoilers, but the ending leaves things open with Silas, and I’m hoping this means even more tales in this beloved setting to settle old scores. *fingers crossed* Was this book needed? No, not really. Am I glad it exists? Absolutely. I do wish this was a full on sequel, rather than a novella, but it was so enjoyable to be back in the world of Thorn Manor and see everyone again. “When she opened it, she discovered a handwritten dedication on the patterned endpapers: To my beloved—may you always believe in fairy tales. Smiling, she traced her fingers over the letters, feeling the indentations they had left on the paper. This was one of the things she loved best about books. She might never know who had written the dedication, or how long ago, or to whom, but she could briefly clasp hands with them across eternity, a chance meeting of souls made possible by their shared love of a story.”

I finished the first Book a few years ago, so i didn`t remember everything from the original Book. But after 50 or so pages i was back in the story and loved every second. Meeting Elisabeth again and her relationship with Nathaniel. But also getting to know Thorn Manor and the secrets behind this House. Also i loved and valued every situation with Silas. He is just a dream of a demon especially because of his cruelty. I hope this Short Story means that it’s more to come for Elisabeth Future.
