Leseempfehlung ❤️✊

“I had to learn that loving someone was different from falling in love with them.”

"The world would be a better place if everyone did more thinking and less talking. There might be a lot less hatred." You can't help yourself but rethink your whole life and the way this world works when you read this book. I absolutely fell in love with every character in this book. You definitely notice that Benjamin Alire Saenz is a poet. He has a very unique and so beautiful way of writing. A lot of the times I found myself crying because of his choice of words. It was a very thought out sequel. Jamie's death was the only part of the book that completely killed me inside and forced me to put the book away. When I read Ari's speach at his father's funeral I broke down for good. I am not sure if I am satisfied with the ending of the book. I absolutely have mixed feelings about the fast pace of Ari's time in Paris. Other than that I can say that I very much enjoyed the book, maybe not as much as the first one but it was even more poetic. I will love Ari, Dante and their families and chosen family forever and will think about them for a long time

„If you are brave enough to sit and listen to the voice of the universe in the silence that lives within you, then you will always know what matters - and you will know too that you matter more to the universe than you will ever know.“

I really did love the first book. I fell in love with Dante and Ari. There was no way I couldn’t. I liked reading how their relationship continues, how it grows and changes and how they fight for it. To walk through all the beautiful and sad moments alongside them was a lovely ride. Like others mentioned bevor, the books feels a little lost in the middle, but the beginning and ending is incredibly emotional in many ways. I had a great time reading this book. It’s definetly worth it‘s while.

I have seen many bad reviews about this book, which made me hesitate about reading it, because honestly, I was satisfied with the ending of Aristotle and Dante discover the Secrets of the Universe. But now after finishing this book I am so happy that I did decide to read this bool after all. This book and the characters are just pure comfort to me, I was able to completely dive into the world of Aristotle Mendoza once more and I felt good immediately. Benjamin‘s writing style is very special and unique and I honestly have to compliment him for creating extremely relatable and thought through characters, even though I absolutely do not support him or his actions. Trough this book I felt all possible emotions. Happiness, Joy, but mostly sadness. Reading this in 2021 were it is thankfully allowed to marry a person of the same gender, made me feel so much more sad that Ari and Dante would never be able to expierence that. Ari‘s struggles of coming out to his friends were so easy to understand and reading this book has felt like following a friend through the tough journey of coming out. I enjoyed that we got to see more of Gina and Susie, and the development of Ari‘s and his Dad‘s relationship was so beautiful to read. The short chapters in this book made it, for my personally, so easy to read. The last few chapters before the ending were so sad and definitely broke something deep down in my heart. Before I list my favorite quotes, I just want to say how brave every person of the LGBTQIA+ community is for coming out, because even today there are sadly people in this world that simply can’t except that people should be able to love who they want to love. So to every single person out there who is struggling to come out , or who already came out: You are loved, and you are brave and I’m proud of you ! <3 So know onto my favorite quotes: “You’re the rain and you’re the desert and you’re the eraser that’s making the word ‘loneliness ’ disappear.” “I did find all the secrets of the Universe in your hand. Your hand, Dante.” “My father traced his name on my heart. And his name will remain there. And because his name lives in me, I will be a better man for it. My name is Aristotle Mendoza, and if today you ask me who I am, I will look you in the eye and say to you: I am my fathers son.” “ We danced. We all danced in the desert. We danced in the desert that I love. We danced until sunrise. And that dawn, the sun was shining on the faces of the people I loved. All of them, they were setting the world on fire.” I could go on and on with the quotes and, fun fact, I actually used up all of my blue annotating sticky notes, for sad quotes. There were just to many…

My expectations certainly weren't too high because I didn't even have any to begin with. I don't remember a lot from [b:Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe|12000020|Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante, #1)|Benjamin Alire Sáenz|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1328320260l/12000020._SY75_.jpg|16964419]. I know I found it to be an okay book, but I didn't love it. I was shocked when the sequel was announced. I considered it quite unnecessary but I wanted to give it a chance even though I had such a horrible time with [b:The Inexplicable Logic of My Life|23447923|The Inexplicable Logic of My Life|Benjamin Alire Sáenz|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1465572387l/23447923._SX50_.jpg|43010768]. Benjamin Alire Sáenz just isn't my author. Despite all of this, I decided to give it a go and even finished the book. And it was probably a waste of time. I'm just glad I read the ebook version of it and paper wasn't wasted for my reading experience. What annoyed me the most were Ari's negative thoughts towards his sexuality. Yes, different times, and yes, the AIDS epidemic happened. But as a queer person, this wasn't an enjoyable reading experience. I don't want to read this kind of book. A few examples? Here we go: - "The world would look at that boy and that girl and smile and think, How sweet. If the world saw me and Dante doing the same thing, the world would grimace and think, Disgusting. " - "See, a gay man is not a real man, and if I'm not a real man, then I can't really be an American." - "Normalcy. There was a word. How could a gay even use that word?" Worst of all, Ari has this conversation with his father: - "I hate being gay." "Well, they have these conversion therapy schools." What kind of father would say this to his son?! And yet Ari claims that he and his dad got closer. What kind of bullshit, honestly... Dante was insufferable and claimed so many things I completely disagree with. - "It's just that you think there's something wrong with someone who doesn't want to have kids. ... Everyone wants to have kids. And everyone wants to have grandchildren." No. This is a YA book. On the one hand, you have this negative portrayal of LGBTQ+ sexualites. On the other hand, you have a 17-year old character claiming that there's something wrong with people who don't want to have children. Now imagine that a teenager reads this. This book is supposed to be for the LGBTQ+ community. But what kind of world does the author portray? I absolutely hate how negative this book is. There's so much wrong with it. On top of it all, the characters talk a lot of bullshit. This book tries so hard to be full of deep and meaningful quotes! - "... he was discovering hands, my hands, and he was discovering a country that was named Ari, and I was discovering a country that was Dante." - "I mean, people are like countries, and me and Gina, and your friend Dante, we're all countries - and maybe you've given your friend Dante a visa. But even if you have, that's just one person. And one person isn't enough. Having friends is like traveling. Gina and I have offered you a visa to travel to our countries whenever you want. So, Ari, when are you going to give us a visa? We want so much to visit you." There were a couple of scenes between Ari and some girls, which I thought to be quite weird. - "She kissed each of us on the cheek - and she did it with the grace of a woman." - "Do you like having a penis? ... Answer the question. Do. You. Like. Having. A. Penis? ... I think apologies for liking having a penis might be in order." I mean... what?! Adding to that, the writing was HORRIBLE. I really don't understand why people love this author. The writing style is so incredibly simple, a 12-year old could have written this book. - "And I kissed him and kissed him. And kissed him. ... I knew what he was saying. He was saying, I love your hand. . Yeah, words could be super overrated." Oh, SURELY words are overrated, that's why you keep repeating the same thing over and over again, right? A couple of think that I consider overdramatic and unnecessary. Ari's father dies. Randomly. In the middle of the book. Of a heart attack. I think his death scene was quite odd and was only included due to shock value because the author couldn't think of a better plot. At the end of the book, Ari and Dante break up because Ari encourages Dante to fly to Paris. Dante seems hurt and ends the relationship. Ari is sad and randomly decided to fly to Paris. They meet in the Louvre and kiss. The end. Honestly, I would have preferred it if the two of them broke up for good. Instead, it was quite a weird ending. All in all, the book was completely unnecessary. I cannot imagine why people love this so much. The plot was non-existent and the writing is very simplistic. There was no build up for the random plot points I mentioned in the spoiler part of the review. The conversations between the characters are extremely unbelievable, since no teenager in the entire world would talk that way. It's full of gay stereotypes. The book is way to long and yet it talks about nothing in particular. It was just an unenjoyable experience.

very Strong ending, a bit loose in the middle but never the less very well written. just past the first part, but still incredibly good. the two have grown so close to my heart. i'm a little sad that I have the series through. so beautifully written, even if it has dragged here sometimes a bit more than in the first part.

It started out strong, dipped in the middle to an extent where I lost interest but then it picks up. It picks up, goes straight for my heart, grabs it, and rips it apart. I was a sobbing mess! However, we get a beautiful ending with me wanting to go to PARIS right now.
