There is a lot of awe about everything in this book, both the magical and non-magical aspects to our protagonist's Hollywood experience. As always, I liked the things to do with filmmaking but the dreamy atmosphere made everything, especially the protagonist herself, feel so distant. Also, I'm just not a fan of both magical realism and urban fantasy, which this felt a bit in the middle of, but I actually think it was a good match thematically. While the overal style of this wasn't for me, I think Nghi Vo is really good at making the relationships matter.
