Ich habe die Geschichte gelesen, ohne die "Hauptstory" zu kennen, weswegen ich etwas gebraucht habe, um in die Geschichte zu finden. Die Welt und das Setting fand ich wirklich klasse, die Storyline hat mir ebenfalls sehr gut gefallen. Ich möchte auf jeden fall weiterlesen. Leider bin ich mit den Charakteren nicht so warm geworden. Die Anziehung zwischen Kazi und Jase nicht wirklich verstehen, aber ihre Motivation dafür umso mehr. Außerdem bin ich nicht so ein Fan des Schreibstils, auch wenn mir die Welt und Der Plot gut gefallen. Das neue Cover gefällt mir wirklich gut.

Kazi ist ein Rathan und gehört damit zur persönlichen Garde der Königin von Venda. Zusammen mit anderen wird sie ausgeschickt, um die Verräter zu stellen welche für den Großen Krieg verantwortlich sind. Dabei geraten sie an ein Rebellenvolk an der Landesgrenze. Dort überschlagen sich die Ereignisse. Kazi und der Rebellenführer müssen zusammenarbeiten um ein gemeinsames Problem zu lösen, wobei sich eventuell gewisse Ansichten verschieben. Er ist ihr Feind, aber kann sie ihn am Ende wirklich richten? Erzählt wird die Geschichte aus Kazis und Jases Sicht. Immer mal im Wechsel. Dabei ist der Schreibstil sehr einnehmend und bildgewaltig. Kazi hat schon seit sehr jungen Jahren viel durch, was sie abgehärtet hat. Es gibt eigentlich nicht wirklich etwas was sie brechen kann. Sie hat auf der Straße gelebt und ist praktisch perfekt darin ihre schnellen Finger für sich sprechen zu lassen. Sie hat mich mit ihrer Art sehr beeindruckt. Sie ist knallhart, loyal aber sie hat auch Herz. Ihre Vergangenheit ist mehr als nur traurig. Jase hat, nach dem Tod seines Vaters vor Kurzem, die Stellung als neuer Patrei in Höllenrachen übernommen. Er ist der Anführer des Rebellenvolkes auf welches Kazi trifft. Er geht der jungen Frau ziemlich unter die Haut. Auch er muss in seinen jungen Jahren harte Entscheidungen treffen und an sein Volk denken. Man merkt ihm an, dass es kein Spaziergang ist. Er hat aber das Herz am richtigen Fleck würde ich meinen und kümmert sich wirklich gut. Der geborene Anführer könnte man sagen, wobei ihm seine Familie bedingungslos den Rücken stärkt. Man kauft den beiden die Romanze durchaus ab, allerdings ging es mir persönlich Am Anfang zu schnell. Eine etwas langsamere Herangehensweise wäre mir lieber gewesen. In der weiteren Entwicklung hat es mir allerdings gut gefallen. Der Handlungsverlauf ist am Anfang spannend, flaut dann leicht im Mitteilteil ab, um noch einmal richtig Gas zu geben. Zum Schluss wird man dann noch mit einem Cliffhanger bedacht, der definitiv Lust auf mehr macht. Eine solide Mischung. Das Setting fand ich spannend, ebenso die Völker. Ich glaube, ich sollte dann doch mal noch zu den „Chroniken der Verbliebenen“ greifen. Da es zu einigen Personen anscheinend interessante Vorgeschichten gibt. Fazit Ein wirklich guter Dilogieauftakt der mitreißen kann. Sowohl die Charaktere als auch die Story an sich haben Tiefgang. Wer auf der Suche nach einem durchaus spannenden Fantasybuch ist kann getrost zu diesem greifen. Mir persönlich hat es richtig gut gefallen und absolut Lust auf mehr gemacht. Idk how i feel abt this cuz i was in a really big reading slump while reading this( prob because of school and all not cuz of the book) So i can’t really rate it. It wasn’t the best book ever tho. Butttt it was still really good and i loved the forced proximity and Kazi and Jases story. Even tho i think the romance part was a bit closed off(prob cuz of YA lol) it still could’ve been a bit more detailed ig?

This is tricky to explain because I do not know what to really think about. I can tell you that the beginning was good but und only the first 150-200 pages. After that my excitement decreased… rapidly. Some said that it is a slow burn story but for me it was the opposite. Later in the story I hoped that something crazy would happen and some traps had been placed to get caught with that mind… but in the end I was disappointed. Unfortunately I bought the second book with the first…. You see I cannot recommend the book.

I really didn’t like how both kazi and jase had their secrets until the end, and I was so convinced that they would somehow not end up together in the end, but gladly I was wrong. I have to say, I was very confused by the ending and I don’t know if I am ready to read vow of thieves bc I really want kazi to have a rest and be happy… and that’s not what the second book will get me. I desperately need the answer to that last riddle tho, since English isn’t my first language I nearly can’t solve any of them…

In "Dance Of Thieves" begleiten wir Kazi und Jase. Kazi ist eine sogenannte Rahtan, was eine Art Elitearmee/-garde der Königin von Venda ist. Jase ist mit dem Tod seines Vaters zum "Patrei" seiner Familie geworden, den Ballengers, und ist nun Oberhaupt über Hell's Mouth und Tor's Watch. Da Kazi herausfinden soll, ob ein Erzfeind von Venda bei den Ballengers versteckt oder bei ihnen versteckt wird, stehen bei sich anfangs nicht so freundlich gesonnen gegenüber. Ein gefährliches Spiel zwischen den beiden beginnt, beide mit eigenen Absichten und bereit, alles für die eigenen Ziele zu tun, doch kommen sie sich trotzdem näher... Mir hat die Geschichte super gefallen. Kazi und Jase sind beides sehr spannende Charaktere. Ihre Loyalitäten stehen von Anfang an fest, doch mit der Zeit lernen sie mehr von der Perspektive des anderen. Umgeben sind sie dabei von weiteren interessanten Nebenfiguren, die Teil von Jase's Familie oder Kazis Rahtan-Truppe sind. Vor allem zu Beginn ist der Einstieg etwas langatmig und auch später zieht es sich auch mal etwas. Der Rest der Geschichte wird von den Charakteren und der Entwicklung der Beziehungen zwischen ihnen getragen. Der Schreibstil von Mary E. Pearson hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Immer wieder gibt es Passagen, die über Magie, Liebe, Verrat und mehr philosophieren und mich häufig sehr mitgenommen haben. Die Rätsel in einer Art Gedichtform, die von manchen der Figuren hin und wieder zum Besten gegeben wurden, waren auch ein schönes Element. Wie ich schon in anderen Reviews gelesen habe, ist die Liebesgeschichte schon ein großer Teil des Buchs. Wer davon nicht abgeschreckt ist und die widersprüchlichen verunsichernden Gefühle gern lesen mag, die bei einer Art (!) Enemies-to-Lovers / Star-Crossed Lovers Geschichte so daher kommen, könnte Gefallen an der Geschichte finden.

This book was great. Not gonna lie it took me a while to get into the story and I put it down quite often because the plot was really slow paced… The characters and the storyline were really good but in order to give the book 5 stars the world building wasn’t good enough. I do thing the main reason for this lack of world building is that it is a sequel to the remnant chronicles and I didn’t read them. All in all I really enjoyed this book and I give it 4.5 stars

Kazi is a Rahtan Soldier and has a mission. She and two other Rahtan travel to the other side of the continent, into a world that is unknown and foreign to them. The task is rather simple, but Kazi didn’t expect Jase Ballenger. From one second to another, she is thrown off her path, her plan falling into pieces. Kazi is caught up in a power battle between various leagues and political scheming, which makes it hard for her to fulfill the task she was assigned. But of all the surprising incidents, Jase Ballenger was the most unexpected one. The story of these two starts early on in the book and the road that they’re taking (or forced to take) together develops into something more, something neither Kazi nor Jase could have imagined. I loved that the book is written out of both their views, so we always get to know what both of them think, which paints a more vivid, complex and fuller picture of their emotional world, as well as how they perceive the world around them. It explains their characters on a way higher level. We get to know them quite well throughout their POVs and its really fascinating how different they seem at first, how they get to know each other and how everything that is happening around them inflicts on them. Their characters are complex: they both have very strong roots to their home, they both have their own demons, and both have very strong opinions, and their own values and rules. I liked the story of Kazi and Jase more than the politics and everything going on around that. I was a little disappointed because of that, so that makes only 4 stars. Maybe it would have been 5, if I read The Remnant Chronicles first, but I didn’t. And you definitely don’t need to, to understand Dance of Thieves.

This book is perfect - it gets everything right. At first I was a little unsure about reading it, because I didn‘t like „The kiss of deception“. The beginning is a little slow, but you get to know all the protagonists and the setting. Then, after you think this story is going nowhere, everything happens at once and the whole plot explodes. I didn’t know what could happen next and where everybody would end up. As you can see, the pacing was phenomenal. The worldbuilding takes just the right amount of time and then the story unravels. There are lots of conversations, but also enough descriptions and there even is some history mixed with the adventure. The protagonists and actually all characters felt real and authentic. I loved Kazis little crew of Wren and Synové - they are some bad ass bitches you should always have on your side. The Ballenger clan on the other hand was equally well displayed. I understood their sense of loyalty and family. The whole family became something very special to me. The love story might be one of the best ones I have ever read. The tension is great and it is an enemies-to-lovers story, which gets me every time. Both characters (Kazi and Jase) evolve for themselves and fight together. It’s the perfekt balance, but of course nobody wants to let the other one know just how perfect they are together, so they taunt each other. It’s perfection! Jase comes across as stubborn and dominant at first, but he is so much more. He is a protector and always loyal to his family, who he loves fiercely. He carries much more upon his shoulders than he should and he carries is well. Also he is dark, handsome and sooo sexy. Suffice it so say: I love him! Kazi is brave, bright and always a step ahead of everyone. She comes to the city with a need to control her life, but evolves throughout the story with her time at the Ballengers home. I loved to read in her POV about her love to her friends and her growing loyalty to Jase and the Ballengers.
