There are three ‘Final Girls’, the sole survivors of separate massacres, labelled as such by the press. Now one of them is dead, and the other one shows up on Quincy’s doorstep, digging far too deeply into her past… But why? I liked the idea of this thriller and its characters. Quincy is a truly likable protagonist. But that’s pretty much where the positive aspects of this book end. The majority of the plot felt incredibly sluggish. The focus was too much on the characters, leaving the story itself largely stagnant. I guessed the final twist early on, and in the end, the full resolution felt too far-fetched. It worked for me as an audiobook to listen to in the background while I was knitting, but only because of Stephanie Cannon’s excellent narration.

Ich verstehe, warum so viele Leute Riley Sager lieben! Ich dachte, ich wüsste den Twist, aber dann kam eine echte Überraschung - und noch eine! Das Buch ist so fesselnd geschrieben, dass man es kaum aus der Hand legen kann. Außerdem bekommen wir Rückblenden in die Nacht „des Vorfalls“ aus einer allwissenden Erzähl-Perspektive, was ich stilistisch echt sehr cool fand. Die Auflösung der Identität und des Motivs des Mörders hat mich nicht zu 100 % überzeugt, aber bei Thrillern kommt es meiner Meinung nach vor allem auf das Leseerlebnis an, und ich war definitiv gefesselt.

1/5 Stars. The first 85% of the book was just repeating the same things over and over. Don’t think I could hear “are you okay” one more time. The main character had zero depth other than the grape juice. Literally the only action happened in the last 20 pages, and it was extremely predictable. So sad to give this one star because the house across the lake got 4.75

Suchtfaktor!!! Dieses Buch ist ein absoluter Pageturner. Die Geschichte um Lisa, Sam und Quincy ist so spannend und fesselnd. Ein richtig guter Thriller. Ich hatte so viele verdächtige und am Ende war es ganz anders. Spannende Geschichte, wobei ich ein Stern abziehen muss, da das Ende für mich arg konstruiert wirkte. ***Coop, Quincys Retter, ermordete ihre Freunde aufgrund einer psychischen Krankheit und verliebte sich in sie. Erst am Ende kommt alles ans Licht, auch das Sam, eigentlich Tina ist, eine Freundin von Quincys angeblichem Täter. Beide überführen Coop am Ende. ***

Murder is a stranger beast than suicide, although the end result of both is the same. Even the words themselves differ. Suicide hisses like a snake – a sickness of the mind and soul. Murder, though, makes me think of sludge, dark and thick and filled with pain. Fortunately, this wasn’t the first book I’ve read from Riley Sager because otherwise, I would not have picked up another book. The blurb is totally misleading. I was expecting a story à la Scream or other teenie slasher movies. However, this book was horribly boring. It deals with the aftermath of Pine Cottage’s massacre and Quincy, the main character, is baking most of the time. Or she’s taking a Xanax with grape soda. The short snippets from Pine Cottage weren’t interesting because it didn’t focus on the massacre. Mostly, it was about teens getting drunk and/or high. The ending didn’t make sense to me, either. All in all, I’m quite disappointed but I highly recommend Sager’s other books.

Kommt nicht an "Home" ran Mein erstes Buch aus der Feder von Riley Sager war „Home“, welches mich total begeisterte. Deshalb war ich sehr gespannt, ob mich auch „Final Girls“ derart fesseln kann. Was definitiv schon mal ein totaler Eye-Catcher ist: Das Cover! Das Cover ist in schwarz gehalten, mit weiß und roter Schrift und sogar der Buchschnitt ist in schwarz. Allein dies verspricht eine spannende und dunkle Geschichte. Mein Eindruck vom Buch: Der Leser lernt Quincy in der Ich-Form kennen. Nur bei den Rückblicken begleitet man sie durch die dritte Person. Normalerweise liebe ich diesen Schreibstil. In diesem Werk hatte ich aber leider Anlaufschwierigkeiten. Dies könnte auch daran liegen, dass mir Quincy nicht sonderlich sympathisch war. Die Hauptprotagonistin ist einzige Überlebende nach einem Wochenendtrip mit ihren Freunden. Alle wurden bestialisch ermordet und für Quincy war dieses Ereignis so traumatisch, dass sie sämtliche Erinnerungen daran verlor. Zwei weitere Frauen, die ebenfalls als einzige Massaker überlebten, wurden mit Quincy „Final Girls“ genannt. 10 Jahre nach dem schrecklichen Vorfall in der Waldhütte wird eines der Final Girls ermordet. Quincy holt die Vergangenheit ein und immer mehr Bruchstücke tauchen in ihrer Erinnerung auf. Ist sie ebenfalls in Gefahr? Brauchte ich eine Weile, um mich in die Story einzufinden, wurde die Spannung immer weiter erhöht, bis ich das Buch kaum noch weglegen konnte. Einige Wendungen haben mich sehr überrascht, dennoch war ich etwas von dem Schluss enttäuscht. Für mich war dieses nämlich dann doch etwas an den Haaren herbei gezogen. Fazit: Für mich kommt „Final Girls“ nicht an „Home“ ran, nichtsdestotrotz hatte ich spannende Stunden mit diesem Werk. Es wird auch definitiv nicht das letzte gewesen sein, das ich von dem amerikanischen Autor gelesen habe.

4 or 4.5 (i honestly don't know i just really enjoyed it!!!) i think this book got me out of the worst reading slump ever. (i couldn't read for a month and a half, it was terrible) seriously, this book has so much power. can't wait to read something else by riley sager, because i'm sure that he is going to continue delivering great content. p.s. i can't decide if i am smart because i i had one scenario in my head that turned out to be the right one or i am just a dumbass because i kept switching between two scenarios till the fucking end. basically, my update of the book where i said that the ending is easy to guess is wrong and i am a stupid bitch

Ich bin enttäuscht... Der klappentext hat sich so viel versprechend angehört aber die Geschichte war ganz anders als was da drauf stand... Es lässt sich gut lesen aber ist jetzt nichts besonderes... Das Ende war schwach... Der letzte Satz war einfach nur lächerlich... So ein Satz wo man nur die Augen verdrehen will..
