I saved this for the summer and so far its worth it, I'm the kind of girl that goes through them fast but I'm Trying take my time because I don't want it to end. A quarter in it and I recommend it already, its that good and I think its my first book from an old mans perspective so thats something. Update: I finished it today and it was worth it its not a story I've heard before in this way and I liked that, the ending nearly broke my heart.

This was a really moving novel, i enjoyed it a lot. Harolds journey and the little flashbacks and pieces we get of his life which make us understand why he is the way he is, are really well written and interesting. I also love all the themes about friendship and love and loss and finding yourself. It was a bit predictable at times maybe but that did not change that this is a really well written novel.

Naja. Ganz nett. Aber vom Hocker gerissen hat es mich jetzt nicht. Vielleicht wäre hier die übersetzte Version in Deutsch doch die bessere Alternative gewesen. Und eine bessere Kenntnis der englischen Geographie auch - echte Englandfans hätten sicher noch mehr Freude davon. Ist jetzt aber nicht so, dass ich dringendst alle weiteren Titel der Autorin auch lesen mag.

Das Buch hat mich positiv überrascht. Ich hatte ehrlich gesagt eine vorhersehbare, humorvoll erzählte "Selbstfindungsgeschichte" erwartet. Aber es ist alles andere als das. Mit einigen Wendungen in der Geschichte hatte ich so nicht gerechnet. Dies verleiht dieser skurrilen und etwas märchenhafte Geschichte Authentizität. Hier werden die Themen Alter, Partnerschaft, Verlust, Trauer, Hilflosigkeit gegenüber den Umständen, aber auch Liebe in einer sehr sensiblen und schönen Weise beschrieben. Nicht nur Harold, sondern auch seine Frau Maureen sind mir auf dieser Reise ans Herz gewachsen. Ein rundum stimmiges Buch.
