The first three books of the Grisha Verse gave a nice beginning and good world building for many new books to explore. I am very much excited about the rest of the Grisha Verse and can’t wait to get my Hands on them. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a nice and heartwarming read. But still sprinkled with the harsh realities of what greed can do to a person.

Auch der dritte Teil hatte seine Höhen und Tiefen, wobei nach wie vor die Welt von Ravka und die Grundidee zu seinen Stärken zählt. Leider steht das World-Building weiter hinten an, wobei hier ein deutlich größerer Fokus liegen sollte. Vorsicht Spoiler! Zudem fehlt hier definitiv die Abwechslung. Auch im dritten Teil geht es darum, einen der drei Verstärker zu finden, was eindeutig nach dem Muster A abgearbeitet wird. Auch der Antagonist bleibt der gleiche, wobei man ruhig eine andere Storyline hätte wählen können (ihn z.B. im zweiten Teil sterben lassen und den dritten Teil auf den Kampf von Alina gegen ihre Machtgier fokussieren). Außerdem war das Ende des Buches meiner Meinung nach schwach. Ein klassisches Happy End, und plötzliches "Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen" - das war zu viel Zucker für meinen Geschmack. Auch der kleine Plottwist, dass plötzlich alle Nicht-Grisha Alinas Kraft innehaben... ich weiß nicht, hat einfach nicht meinen Geschmack getroffen. Alles in Allem hat mir in der Trilogie die Abwechslung gefehlt, der Plot war im Grunde in jedem Teil das Gleiche - den Verstärker finden und hoffen, den Darkling dieses Mal tatsächlich zu besiegen.

I don't know what to think of this series. It was intriguing enough to keep reading and enjoying it, on the other hand I hated the love interest and some of the characters most of the time. It just feels unfinished, not deep enough in plot development shallow. However, at least it gets better with every bool. Still don't like Mal's and Alina's relationship though...

Mit dieser Reihe verbinde ich eine gewisse Hass-Liebe. Hass-Liebe deswegen, weil ich die Welt liebe. Schließlich ist es dieselbe Welt, in der auch Six of Crows und Crooked Kingdom spielen. Ich liebe die Idee der Grisha und ihrer Kräfte, die Elemente, die eine - ich würde jetzt sagen - russische Anlehnung vermuten lassen. Es macht so viel Spaß diese Welt zu erkunden, weil sie einfach so kreativ und detailreich und wirklich wunderbar ist. Ich liebe einige der Figuren dieser speziellen Geschichte. Vor allem Nikolai und es ist so traurig zu sagen, dass es vor allem Nikolai und einige Nebenfiguren maßgeblich dran beteiligt sind, dass ich diese Reihe überhaupt beenden wollte. Es gab so viele Momente, wo ich dieses Buch abbrechen wollte. Denn was ich absolut nicht an diesem Buch mag sind Alina und Mal. Die Protagonisten waren für mich nichts anderes als nervig. Mir war es fast egal, was mit ihnen passierte. Auch der Darkling - in der Serie großartig verkörpert von Ben Barnes - war für mich in vielen Momenten kein interessanter Antagonist. Die Handlung war okay. Sie hat mich jetzt nicht völlig umgehauen und überrascht (viele Elemente haben es ja auch in die Serie geschafft), aber es war jetzt auch nicht so, dass ich komplett gelangweilt war. Alles in allem bin ich froh, die Reihe beendet zu haben, denn jetzt steht einem Reread von Six of Crows und Crooked Kingdom nichts im Weg und ich kann endlich die nachfolgende Reihe lesen.

I kept putting off finishing this series, partially because I read a spoiler in the Crows duology (or so I thought) and partially because I didn’t want it to end. There is again set backs, fights, and fear. But most importantly the story emphasises friendship and what even a ragtag team can accomplish if the put their differences aside and focus on their shared ideals and goals. Bardugo also doesn’t shy away from including the ugly sides of war concerning the people fighting in it, both physical and mentally.

What a brilliant series. This book starts where the last one finishes off. The story is a brilliant continuation of the first two books and doesn't disappoint. I loved all the characters, Mal and Alina especially and loved the fact that they seem to want to stick together no matter whats happening. They are there for each other. I also like the fact that they have friends who are just as annoying as they would be in real life. Leigh Bardugo certainly thought about her character when writing this series. I cant wait to start The Six of Crows soon. Loving this!!!!

3/5 +++ENGLISH+++ I definitely had too high expectations for the Grishaverse, after being so in love with Six of Crows. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret reading this series. It definitely helped me to understand the world of Ravka, and I loved making the connections between this and SoC (like recognizing Genya & Zoya, or hearing the full story of Sankta Alina). My problems with the story already began in #2, it felt boring, without any actions happening. Just a lot of waiting around, people having the same discussions over and over and over again. And as the series progressed, the characters seemed to get more... flat. Alina lost her unique touch and her strength (at least for me). The only person that seemed to have substance was The Darkling. What the hell happened with Nikolai?? And why? Really unnecessary. Mal was too mushy, and perfectly mediocre. And let me sum up the plot: Characters walking around, trying to get somewhere, fighting with each other, Alina having visions, and somewhere there was the big showdown. Which was, well, a safe choice. Predictable. Boring. I wished for something "big", not THIS. I am quite sad that this series went so downhill. Because #1 was good. And Leigh Bardugo's style is still, always is, amazing. But the plot didn't do it for me... +++GERMAN+++ Da ich das Lied der Krähen abgöttisch geliebt habe, hatte ich auch für die Grisha-Reihe sehr hohe Erwartungen. Wahrscheinlich zu hoch. Zwar bin ich froh, die Reihe gelesen zu haben - ich kann jetzt die Welt definitiv besser verstehen. Und als Vorbereitung für die Netflix Serie wahrscheinlich auch gut. Aber das macht meine Probleme mit dem Buch nicht wett. Ich hatte schon im zweiten Band etwas Probleme mit der Handlung. Es wurde langweilig und nichts ist passiert. Um die Handlung zusammenzufassen: warten, diskutieren, weiter warten, selbe Diskussion wieder führen, irgendwo hin gelangen, weiter warten, achja der Showdown. Die Personen, und allen voran Alina, haben für mich ihren Flair und Touch verloren. Nur der Darkling war tiefgründig, aber nicht wirklich sympathisch. Mal war mir zu perfekt und langweilig. Und was zur Hölle war mit Nikolai los? Das fand ich auch unnötig. Das Ende fand ich relativ langweilig. Es war eine "safe choice", klar. Aber ich hätte mir wirklich mehr erhofft. Schade eigentlich. Band 1 war für mich der beste der Reihe, aber irgendwie sind die Bücher für mich mit der Zeit schlechter geworden.

I did not understand why I just gave up reading this book after barely 3 chapters. I'm glad I picked it up and tried again! It was a great build up to the grand finale and the characters added to the story in an enriching way. Nikolai is just the best! I read the book in three sittings because I was so captivated and wanted to know the ending. Kinda SPOILER warning?! Both positive and negative: characters are barely given time to breathe (which kinda makes sense, as they are on the clock) Negative: final fight felt a little too easy, and even though the stakes were so high I barely felt it (the aftermath was not gripping enough imo) But the ending is very sweet and a nice conclusion for the main characters of this trilogy

I can't believe that I didn't want to read this series at first because it is so so so good. I don't really have a lot of words to say about it but I liked the characters a lot (most of them), the relationship developments (also most of them XD), and the plot. There's some very few points of the plot and the relationships that I disliked but made so much sense and fit so perfectly well into the narrative that I can't even be mad about it. 100% reccomend.

I don't know why I've never really gotten into this series, especially considering the fact, that I adore Leigh Bardugo and the Six of Crows series. I kinda skimmed through most of this book (hence no rating), but I did want to finish this series. I'm more than excited for the tv series to come out (Ben Barnes...f- me up!), so maybe I'll try reading the Grishaverse books again someday.

Only one word: AMAZING!!!! I really loved this book. There were so many moments I fell for: Zoya and Alina, Just Zoya, Moments that were Sad, Happy, Funny, etc. . Also the women in this book were incredible(I now can say I love all those women). Go read it, the first two books were worth reading through, bc at the end I got two finish with this. The ending was great in some aspects, some not(if you know me you know). But I would all recommend you this book. I am gonna say it once again: Leigh Bardugo, you got me!

Meinung Der Schreibstil von Leigh Bardugo hat mir in diesem Band leider ein bisschen weniger gefallen, als in den Vorgängern. In diesem Band gab es sehr viele und detailreiche Beschreibungen, denen ich zum Teil nicht immer folgen konnte. Das Problem ist und war, dass ich mich nicht mit Alina identifizieren konnte und auch nicht wirklich mit Ihr warm geworden bin. Sie ist definitiv ein vielschichtiger Charakter und hat nicht nur gute Eigenschaften - das hat mir wohl am besten gefallen. Sie ist eben nicht diese "perfekte" Protagonistin, aber dennoch: ich kam nicht sonderlich gut mit Ihr klar. Das gleiche gilt im Endeffekt für Mal - ich mochte Ihn an manchen Stellen in dem Buch wirklich nicht und keine Ahnung. Ich bin nicht mit Ihm warm geworden und hatte auch keine "tieferen Gefühle", wenn es um die Beziehung zwischen Ihm und Alina ging. Ein Charakter hat mir aber im Gegensatz dazu viel besser gefallen und ich wünschte, dass man noch mehr von Ihm zu sehen bekommen hätte: Nikolai. Ich habe mich in diesem Band wieder einmal ein Stück mehr in Ihn verliebt - Er ist ein so toller Charakter und Himmel! Er hat in diesem Band so unglaublich viel durchmachen müssen, ich habe mit Ihm mitgefiebert und mitgelitten. Bis zur Hälfte des Buches wusste ich nicht so genau, was ich von dem Buch halten sollte - ich fand es weder gut noch schlecht. Nikolai hat diesen Band für mich definitiv gerettet, ohne Ihn würde die ganze Bewertung noch ein bisschen anders ausfallen. Die Handlung an sich konnte mich ebenfalls bis zur Hälfte nicht wirklich packen: wie gesagt, es war weder schlecht noch gut. Ich fand es allerdings toll, dass in diesem Band auch auf Gerechtigkeit gesetzt wurde - viele Charaktere haben in diesem Buch das bekommen, was Sie verdient haben. Bei der Hälfte des Buches kam ein Plottwist, der mich wirklich sprachlos gemacht hat. Ich wollte am liebsten weinen und konnte das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Ein weiterer Plottwist kam bei ca. 75% des Buches und hier muss ich leider sagen, dass ich mich ein wenig aufgeregt habe. Ich fand die Wendung einfach nicht gut und habe mich auch gefragt, warum so etwas erst dann ans Licht kommen kann und warum es nicht schon viel früher aufgefallen ist. Ich muss allerdings auch sagen, dass der große Kampf am Ende wirklich gut war und mich auch definitiv mitreißen konnte! Alles in allem hätte aber ein bisschen mehr kommen können, denn die erste Hälfte des Buches war mir im Gegensatz zu der zweiten Hälfte mit zu wenig Spannung versehen. Alles in allem fand ich aber die Hintergrunderklärungen zu gewissen Handlungssträngen aus den Vorgängern sehr schön und man hat nochmal einen tieferen Einblick in das ganze Universum der Grischa bekommen. Das wohl mit berührendste an dem ganzen Buch war das Ende bzw. das "danach": ich habe vom ersten bis zum letzten Satz Tränen vergießen müssen. In diesen paar Seiten habe ich mehr gefühlt, als in dem ganzen Buch davor und ich fand es einfach großartig, selbst jetzt beim Schreiben der Rezension könnte ich wieder anfangen zu weinen: das letzte bisschen dieses Buches war wirklich perfekt! Fazit Somit bekommt das Buch 3,5 von 5 Sterne von mir. Alles in allem bin ich mehr als glücklich mit dieser Reihe - ich hatte definitiv meinen Spaß und habe auch einen neuen Lieblingscharakter hinzugewonnen. Schaut Euch die Reihe unbedingt einmal an, wenn Ihr auf tolle Fantasy-Geschichten mit einer gewissen Portion Liebe steht. Ihr werdet es wirklich nicht bereuen. Ich freue mich demnächst "Das Lied der Krähen" zu rereaden und dann mit "Das Gold der Krähen" weitermachen zu können.

Der letzte Teil hat mir definitiv wieder viel besser als der zweite gefallen. Die Handlung und Charaktere entwickeln sich super weiter.Ich finde es richtig gut, dass viel Wert darauf gelegt wird, dass man auch die Nebencharaktere lieben lernt. Sie sind extrem vielschichtig, haben ihre eigenen Geschichten und machen teils große Entwicklungen durch.

This Grisha trilogy came to an end and though there is somewhat of an happy ending, it‘s not entirely to my liking. It‘s just me and I know this makes more sense for the Mal and Alina and their interests but I would have wanted for Alina to stay in a higher position. She lost her powers and I‘m usually not a fan of that but now she can have a life with Mal. But nevertheless, at least give them a noble title or something like that. I love the extraordinary so I have my problems with her turning ordinary. It matches Mal more than Alina. And the separation between her and her friends at the palace adds to my uneasiness. I wanted them to stay oke big family. But it is what it is, they have a nice, calm life and they are content. It’s just me. About the romance. Mal’s character seems to change in every book, he gets more mature and I like that. In R&R, I like him the most. Still, a part of me wants Alina to be with Nikolai - I want her to be queen and I really liked their bantering relationship. And now I wanna know who will be queen. Then, another part of me wants Alina to be with the Darkling, lol. I loved their relationship, the tension, his soft spot for her in one second and then hurting her in the other. Yeah, toxic and all that but he was lonely and powerhungry and just couldn’t decide. I feel for him. I‘m happy that he showed his human side at the end and how Alina remembers him after he‘s gone.

Ein großartiges Ende der Trilogie. Habe ich mit diesem Ende gerechnet? Nein. Es gab in diesem Band einen großen Plottwist, den ich so nicht hätte kommen sehen. Ach wie ich so etwas liebe! Eine kleine Sache hat mich dann allerdings doch davon abgehalten, 5 Sterne zu vergeben. Leider kann ich hier nicht verraten, welcher Teil der Handlung mir nicht so gut gefallen hat, da ich sonst spoilern müsste.

this series wasn't my favourite of all times but in the end i grew so attached to it! of course the worldbuilding was the best thing about this trilogy, at least for me, but it was the minor characters that really made me fall in love with this last book! and of course the feels man. i'm actually so sad it's over.

Nachdem Teil 2 für mich etwas interessanter wurde, war Teil 3 für mich dann wieder etwas schwächer. Was wahrscheinlich aber auch daran liegen kann das es weniger Nikolai Zeit gab. Die Story war auf ihre Art und Weise interessant aber wie schon bei Teil 1 konnte mich das ganze nicht wirklich überzeugen. Gerade mit Mal und Alina kann ich aber auch gar nichts anfangen. Einzeln finde ich sie schon nicht gut und zusammen noch schlimmer. Dennoch freue ich mich sehr demnächst endlich mit Six of Crows zu starten und hoffe einfach das diese Geschichte und die Charaktere mich mehr begeistern.

I still am not the biggest fan of Alina as a strong female character, because to me, she is not a good example of one. She had her moments of strenght here, which I really liked, but those moments were destroyed by her own crippling self-doubts really quick. I am obsessed with Nikolais character though, he is written very well and interesting! I hate to say this though, but I absolutely do not like Mal and the way he acts and views Alina and what he says to her and everything, it was just not necessary. The plot in itself was good, I am jot the biggest fan of the ending, but that's a minor thing.

I got to give her one thing: She always manages to pull off at least one twist that I didn't see coming which is never because the twist was conjured up from thin air, I can see the build up looking back - it's simply because it's nicely done and I didn't anticipate the direction. I cried at the end of this one. Lots of complicated feelings about this, I'm not happy where the character development tooks, not happy with the end for certain side characters, etc. but I had a good time reading it, was on the edge of my seat a few times and the story will stick with me - that's worth a 4 star rating. Now onto Six of Crows! Edit: Forgot to add that I rather enjoyed the bonus chapter about the Darklings upbringing!

"Ruin and Rising" is the third and last installment of the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (reviews for book 1 and 2 can be found HERE and HERE) and if I'm being honest, very hard to rate for me. I literally just finished it and tried to find the words to describe what I feel. Not so easy. Now don't get me wrong, it was good, even amazing and the world was, as usual, very gripping and fascinating! But after the first 2 books I had high expectations and probably imagined my own ending for it ... maybe that was the problem. So let's start from the beginning! It started off a little slow with all the hiding and the ever-annoying and creepy Apparat but after the first few chapters it gained pace and got really exciting! What annoyed me in the previous book "Siege and Storm" - namely Alina and Mal's relationship-drama - didn't bother me here. They still had their drama but they got along. A lot better than I expected! Actually I loved them working together, still longing for each other from a distance but not giving in because they knew it shouldn't be. Not now. "He watches her the way Harshaw watches fire. Like he’ll never have enough of her. Like he’s trying to capture what he can before she’s gone." Mal was a lot more likeable and I really grew on him. No matter what happened between Alina and him, no matter with whom she'd end up or where she would go, he would always be by her side. I admired him a lot. He basically gave up his life for her, only so she is safe and I don't know, he just changed, in my opinion, and I like him more than before! Especially in the end, when we find out that he's the third amplifier - sadly I "spoilered" myself, more like I read a review of the second book where someone mention the idea, so it wasn't new to me and I almost expected it. I still really liked that "plot twist"! I'm not sure what to think about his "resurrection", I quite liked the idea of him being dead. Wait, that sounded wrong. I mean, he was willing to sacrifice himself for his friends, Ravka and Alina. Not everyone would do such a thing. And yes, maybe that's why they were able to bring him back but I still think it would have also been okay if he would have stayed dead. "Na razrusha'ya. I am not ruined. E'ya razrushost. I am ruination." Alina was more like the old Alina in the first book. She changed a lot, but somehow she also became a little more herself again. I think I liked her new appearance, I'm not so sure and mostly I didn't pay much attention but it made her stand out and. I imagined her strong and wise-looking and in a way she was. Everything she learned in "Ruin and Rising" made her tougher and she not only found out a lot about herself and her power but also about the people surrounding her. She was still hungry for power but I think this time it was more about defeating The Darkling. He did terrible things, at least made her believe that and of course she thought low of him. Hated him in a way, but also felt sorry for him. She somehow understood him, not his actions but him. Now let me talk about The Darkling and my beloved Nikolai Lantsov! I was thinking about who I like more but honestly, I don't even want to choose. They are both so different and even though The Darkling did bad terrible things, I still liked him. He had his moments where he really was human. Where he felt something, he wasn't the "pure" evil everyone thought he would be. Maybe I'm just weird and everyone who's reading this will shake their heads and won't understand me but I LIKE THE BAD GUYS, OKAY? And Nikolai, well ... he's just amazing. He easily became one of my favorite characters of the trilogy and won my heart! I think I even prefer him over The Darkling, yes. I was super mad at The Darkling when he sent one of his creatures at him and god, my heart shattered! Leigh Bardugo, how could you do this to my beloved prince?!? I felt horrible and I was more than happy that Alina grieved and worried about him ... and when she saw him and the scene with the ring and she tried to heal him, gosh. Again my heart! ALL THE FEELS! I shipped them so, so hard! "Beauty was your armor. Fragile stuff, all show. But what's inside you? That's steel. It's brave and unbreakable. And it doesn't need fixing." What can I say about the end? I expected/hoped for something different, like I said, I had my own little ending in my head but I'm also satisfied with Bardugo's end. It's cute and happy, hopeful but also sad and serious. There are new responsibilities and questions that demand an answer. And then there's Ravka! I would love to find out what changed, what will change in the future and of course I need to see our lovely side characters again. Can I just note, that I absolutely loved them all? Even Zoya! Her snarky and bitchy attitude made me laugh out loud a few times and lifted my mind of the more serious scenes. Also Genya! I missed her in the previous book and I'm more than happy that everything turned out well for her and the others! An awesome crew! Now I'm super excited for "The Dregs" which will probably come out sometime in 2015 but will also take place in the Grishaverse, in Kerch! And it says: "The project, described as a blend of Ocean’s 11 and Game of Thrones [...] A crew of dangerous felonious misfits face impossible odds when they are pulled together to break into one of the most guarded places in the world." I am not sure what exactly to make of the ending yet. It isn't really the ideal scenario i had imagined but it makes enough sense given the characters and the events of the books that i can live with it, if that makes sense? I definitely liked this more than the 2nd book but less than the 1st book. overall, while it may not have become my favourite book series, it was an enjoyable enough reading journey and i don't regret the time and money spent

There is the skill I loved and recognized in Six of Crows! I thought I was dreaming. This book finally gave me what I was hoping for: Complex characters, less drama and a focus on what was important. Mal finally learned to shut the fuck up and understand what actually mattered. I still don´t have any particular feelings about him but thank the Saints, he was less overly possessive and annoying. Alina also finally matured a bit and got more complex. She was a bit less whiny about the unnecessary things and concentrated a bit more. Genya is still a queen and I am glad Leigh dialed down the cliché nastiness of Zoya. I loved them both. Nikolai is a babe and I can´t wait to get my hands on King of Scars. The Darkling... honestly, I don´t really care about him. He was a good and complex character but when he died, I didn´t feel anything. Either way, not bad and worth a read.

I am not satisfied with the ending but overall I liked the series. I don't like the decision Alina made about her life and what happened that "caused" it. Sadly I am not a Mal fan, so thats another bummer for me. But the world building and story was a nice thing but for me it had more potential.

Reread 2019: "They had an ordinary life, full of ordinary things - if love can ever be called that." Habe ich schon mal gesagt, was für ein perfektes Ende das ist? Das ist das perfekteste Ende einer Reihe, das ich je gelesen habe. Bei Harry Potter fand ich alles zu kitschig und hm, aber hier endet es so wunderschön, einfach genau richtig. Es gibt den perfekten Abschluss für alle, selbst die, die nicht überleben, und Bardugo führt alle Fäden gekonnt zu einem Ende. Immer noch fünf Sterne und so herzerwärmend. ____________ Ich fürchte, dies wird weniger ein Review, als eine Schwärmerei. Zu Band 1 und 2 habe ich ja schon genug erzählt, warum ich die Reihe mag. Zu wiederholen, was mir so gefällt, würde hier in schwere inhaltliche Spoiler abdriften. Es ist auf jeden Fall ein würdiger Abschluss und ich habe sofort hinterher Six of Crows und das Sequel davon bestellt! "Ruin and Rising" löst alles zufriedenstellend auf, mit einigen Wendungen, die ich nicht habe kommen sehen und das Ende - hach. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass es mir derart gefallen würde. Die ganze Reihe ist eines meiner Lese-Highlights in der letzten Zeit und ich werde sie definitiv bald wieder lesen. Denn sehr lang ist sie ja doch nicht - und das ist auch das einzige Manko, das ich an "Ruin and Rising" finden kann.

Was für ein Finale! Dieses Buch hat mich von Anfang an gefesselt, nicht nur weil man wissen wollte wie es ended. Im letzten Teil der Trilogie nimmt alles seinen Lauf und es gibt viele Aha Momente und .... Manchmal würde ich Alina und Mal einfach ne Watchn' geben um zu sagen: ihr Idioten. Ihr liebt euch doch!!!! Gebt es endlich zu oder redet miteinander. Ich selbst konnte mich ja mit den ersten Bänden nicht so richtig anfreunden aber sie waren interessant. Das letzte ist: boom
