Ich habe das Buch als Gelegenheit genutzt, wieder mal etwas auf Englisch zu lesen. Wer Sparks kennt weiß, dass man in der Regel keinen glücklichen Liebesroman erwarten kann und so war es auch hier. Aber leider war die Handlung für mich ab einem bestimmten Punkt so vorhersehbar, dass ich mir das letzte Viertel eigentlich hätte sparen können. Und die Botschaft, die am Ende vermittelt wird, finde ich fraglich: (Achtung Spoiler!) Besser im Ist-Zustand verharren und ein unglückliches Leben führen statt den Mut zu haben, auf seine Träume und Wünsche hinzuarbeiten.

DNF I had the audiobook and yet I just couldn't listen to the story or the writing or get intrigued as to what was happening in the book, I mostly pushed myself into even getting to 37% mark of the book. It's not that the story is bad or the writing but for me, it was quite depressing just the way it is laid out too and the audiobook too had that depressing mode on. I wasn't able to relate to the characters at all and the love story put out for me seemed so unrealistic and not enough moments for me to be like aww they are in love, it was way too superficial also when they reunite not once were they nervous in their conversation and somehow were also flirting? Please teach me how you do that, oh might oh lord, please. Amanda's character, though, she as a mother didn't expect her kids to do what he did and yet was not sorry for how she behaved when she was young (I don't mean the way she behaved was wrong) just hypocrisy?? Dawson's character was dreamy and low and yet attractive -- I am done with that. Anyway not a cup of tea for me which is a bummer because this was my first Nicholas Sparks book and I think the last, maybe? :/

I have the feeling that I enjoyed Nicholas Sparks older novels more than I am doing his more recent ones. The setting is wonderful as always, I am enjoying it in every Sparks book. Unfortunately I found "The best of me" boring for almost the whole book. There was nothing happening at all and neither could I feel any chemistry between the protagonists. I didn't like the other perspectives either. The storyline was very predictable, so I thought. At least I was surprised about one bit at the end of the book but the outcome of that was predicatable again. Nicholas Sparks' books are usually tearjerkers but here I didn't even have one tear in my eyes. I am going to see the movie next week, so it's hopefully more entertaining than reading the book.
