As I know Stephen King this was of course amazing. It was not just super interesting to learn more about Kings childhood and life in general but it also was super helpful in the case of giving advise to those people who want to write. I always feel very insecure about starting to write but this book really motivates me to finally start with it. A must read for every Stephen King fan and for everyone who wants to know more about the process of writing.

Insightful and hilarious. Stephen King has been one of my favourite writers for well over a decade now and I've wanted to read this memoir for years. Luckily, my library has the audiobook version read by King himself which is pure bliss. Nothing like the King telling you to ditch the fucking adverbs to brighten up your Tuesday. Unlike some other guides I've read this one offers actual advice on how to write whilst giving insight in Stephen King's life and the stories behind his books. I recommend this to anyone who's a fan or wants to pursue writing.

I loved the memoir part of it! It's incredible to read, especially if you only know Steven King as the author of horror books and not much more about him. The part about writing is really interesting for aspiring authors - I thought I was one but King actually made me realise, that I love to read books, but not particularly love to write them. So I stick to writing articles and will be absolutely happy with it. That realisation was worth it alone.

3,5 Sterne. Dieses Buch zu lesen und Stephen King damit auf eine andere Art und Weise "kennenzulernen" war sehr interessant. Ich habe vor kurzer Zeit selbst ein Buch geschrieben und jetzt "nachträglich" Schreibtipps und Erfahrungsberichte von the one and only King zu lesen, hat mir tatsächlich viel gegeben. Ich habe gemerkt, dass ich intuitiv schon total viel so gemacht habe, wie es King empfiehlt oder selbst erfahren hat. Besonders gut fand ich den wiederkehrenden Satz: Wer schreiben will, muss lesen. Das eine geht nicht mal ohne das andere und durchs Lesen kann man so, so viel lernen. (Bis heute bin ich überzeugt, dass meine Rechtschreibung nur durch das viele Lesen schon früh gut war). Zwischendrin waren mir seine biographischen Erzählungen immer mal wieder zu lang, dafür haben mir aber die Abschnitte, in denen er auf Themen wie character building, pacing etc. eingegangen ist, umso besser gefallen. Ich habe mich immer wieder bestätigt gefühlt und werde sicher noch einige seiner Tipps oder Gedanken im Hinterkopf behalten, wenn ich wieder schreibe.
