Excellent world-building that fills in a lot of background about Cardassian society as well as Garak's personal story. The detail of politics, spirituality and economics is very plausible and well thought out. My only criticism is that it suffers a little from familiar Trek habits of giving a familiar object an alien name to exoticise it, and making the aliens overall a little too human and a little too familiar with human culture.
