Die Enemies-to-Lovers-Dynamik war richtig stark, vor allem wie er sie ständig geneckt hat. Das hat mich oft amüsiert. Die Fantasywelt war total magisch, der Vibe hat einfach gestimmt, und insgesamt hat mir das Buch echt gut gefallen.

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑟𝑢𝑒𝑙 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒 by Holly Black and I have a complicated relationship. I read it ages ago and honestly didn’t think it was bad. Strangely enough, I found every single character unlikeable, but that was kind of the cool part. Everyone was morally twisted, unfriendly, and completely unpredictable. The politics of the Fae, Jude’s involvement, and her ambitions were interesting to follow at times, but also exhausting, especially her obsession with being “more.” The cruelty, especially from Cardan and his group, was sometimes really hard to stomach, and I kept asking myself: 𝘞𝘩𝘺? I just couldn’t understand the hype around Jude and Cardan as a ship, it didn’t work for me (no worries, I understand it now 😂). Still, the world-building was amazing, and I really liked that basically everyone in this book is some sort of villain. It was just a bit too much for me in parts.

Anfangs musste ich etwas mit der Story warm werden, jedoch war ich gegen Ende des Buches ziemlich gefangen. Ich fand, dass einige Handlungen direkt relativ schnell offensichtlich wurden, jedoch war es im Endeffekt gut umgesetzt und dann doch nicht so straight forward wie man vielleicht gedacht hätte. Außerdem gab es auch einige Handlungsstränge die ich so nicht erwartet hätte und finde es daher einen runden und spannenden Auftakt. Ich bin gespannt wohin die Reise geht.

I really liked the plot, the world and some (not all) characters. I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next book. 🌟🤍 first started this as an ebook and then got the physical book. The plot was well-structured and medium paced. It took me some time to get used to this poetic writing. 🫶🏻📚 I really liked Jude and Cardan, but I didn't like Madoc...

Die Geschichte war grundsätzlich eine super Idee. Ich fand jedoch, dass sie nicht sehr gut umgesetzt wurde. Versteh mich nicht falsch der schreib Stil war schön. Auch die Art wie Holly Black mit Wörtern umgeht lässt sich schön lesen. Es hat aber wirklich keinen Höhepunkt im Buch gegeben und wenn es ab und zu mal spannend wurde war es auch schnell wieder vorbei. Ich finde es wurde zu viel Spannung aufgebaut und zu wenig gegeben. Mir hat auch ein wenig mehr Spice gefehlt zwischen den Protagonisten ( Cardan und Jude). Sonst war die Love Story zwischen den beiden sehr schön.

i am speechless 😶 The amount of emotions i felt during this book was insane!! betrayal, love, duty, respect, sadness EVERYTHING was PERFECT!! I am so glad i saved this book up and i need the second book now! This world building is so brilliant and beautiful.. Still it is very difficult to understand but i really really enjoyed reading this book. I really hope that Taryn becomes a better person and Locke will go fuck himself! And this tension between Cardan and Jude HELLO?! I love it and i need more of it! 5/5 stars 🤩

Ich habe zwar erst echt gebraucht, um in die Story reinzukommen, vor allem, weil es mein erstes Fantasy Buch auf Englisch war, aber ab der Hälfte hat es mich sowas von gecatcht. Das letzte Drittel war sowas von spannend und ich bin jetzt riesiger Jude Fan. Auch die anbahnenden Gefühle zwischen Jude und Cardan können sich sehen lassen. Freue mich sehr auf den zweiten Band.

Where do I start? I have to admit, I almost DNF this book. For the first 250pages Jude felt like a pawn I a game neither she nor I did understand. She was weak, controlled, plain out stupid from time to time and I really, really didn’t like her. Around page 300 I started to slowly enjoy the book - Jude finally shows her bad bitch energy and strength I wouldn’t have guessed for her to have. I am still not 100% sure if I want to read the other books, but I definitely am not as opposed to it as I was before.

As I already told a friend I can just repeat that this book strangely feels like you're coming home. The entire setting is just so beautiful and endearing that you're enchanted by it and can't possibly stop reading. Some plotpoints didn't make sense, I admit that, but the characters, the intrigue and the worldbuilding are so well done that I could easily forget about how flawed the story sometimes seemed. Not to mention that Jude and Cardan were the perfect example of how an enemies to lovers story should be written. Can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the trilogy!

okokok i don't really like faeries but i gave this a try because (1) i saw a carden illustration and (2) i know holly black back from when i was a die hard mortal instruments fan. i really love the writing style, the world building, the in depth description of some of the clothes and hair - very picturesque, very vivid. i also enjoyed the pacing and i actually did not see some of the twists coming. it was great. i also loved the moments between carden and jude. i love jude and i rarely like female main characters that much. i think i like best the faerie world coexisting with our world - makes it somehow more interesting for me. i was nervous so many times of what will happen, it was truly great. can recommend 👌🏼 - spoiler - when i tell u my jaw DROPPED when madoc sliced dain... oml i didn't see that coming. the massacre was insane. please when jude could see the desire in cardens eyes and went like "you do really want me" i was giggling, kicking my feet! i hate taryn .. i leave it at that.

Ich hab zwar nicht alles verstanden, aber das was ich verstanden habe und gerafft habe war gut und spannend,(hab’s als Hörbuch gehört). Ich werde die Reihe auch weiterlesen und bin sehr gespannt darauf. Jude hat mich etwas manchmal mit ihrem “ich muss mich beweisen” genervt, kann sie aber auch etwas nachvollziehen wenn sie so sein will wie das folk...tbh ich hatte etwas mehr spice in dem Buch erwartet was liebe anging und Jude. Bin gespannt auf den 2. Band.

I had my suspicions about the relationship between Jude and Cardan early on and it’s going to be interesting to read how everything unfolds. But really - who is the cruel prince here? Because they all are!

Dieses Buch war alles, was ich nicht und gleichzeitig sehr erwartet habe. Spannend, fesselnd, magisch. Die Geschichte zieht einen in den Bann und ich konnte es zum Teil gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen und habe, wenn ich nicht gerade gelesen habe, nur daran gedacht. Ich brauchte erst etwas um mich reinzufinden, aber danach wurde ich verschlungen. Sehr toller Einstieg in die Reihe. Ich freue mich sehr weiterzulesen - schließlich habe ich mir heute impulsiv direkt die anderen 5 Bücher aus diesem Universum gekauft... well done, Holly Black, well done

WARNING: May contain spoilers! “The Cruel Prince” was my first Holly Black book, and I can confidently say—it won’t be my last. This is one of the most intriguing YA fantasies I’ve read, and it completely lived up to its reputation. The world of Elfhame is cruel, manipulative, and utterly mesmerizing, and I was hooked from the very first page. Holly Black’s writing is gripping, and the way she builds her world feels effortless, avoiding info dumps while still immersing the reader completely. I especially loved that Jude, the protagonist, grew up in this world, which meant she already knew the rules, making her a smart and strategic character rather than a clueless newcomer. Speaking of Jude—I absolutely loved her. She’s edgy, ruthless, and refreshingly imperfect. So often in books, I find myself wishing the protagonist would just do something—stand up for themselves, fight back, say that cutting comeback that’s right there—and they never do. But Jude? Jude delivers. She fights back. She manipulates. She plays the game as well as the Fae do, and it was so satisfying to read. She doesn’t always make the morally right choices, but she makes the ones that will keep her alive, and I respect that. The plot was well thought out, with twists and turns that never felt forced. What really stood out to me was the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Jude and Cardan. This was no secret-pining or misunderstood-feelings kind of romance—they truly hated each other. The tension, the violence, the power struggles—it was all so well done. I loved that their romance wasn’t rushed, and the book focused more on politics, ambition, and survival rather than forcing a love story too soon. As someone who enjoys political intrigue, I really appreciated how the story wove in betrayal, strategy, and shifting alliances. The characters in this book are all morally grey, messy, and compelling in their own way. Cardan Greenbriar is cruel, charming, and infuriatingly fascinating. He’s the youngest prince, a little shit, and completely unreadable at times. I would have loved to get inside his head, but unfortunately, we don’t get his POV in this book. His little gang—Nicasia, Valerian, and Locke—were awful, manipulative creatures, and honestly, little bitches. Especially Locke. Locke was the worst—manipulative and deceitful, and I never trusted him. Jude’s twin, Taryn, frustrated me beyond belief, while their sister Vivienne was a refreshing contrast, being the only one who didn’t care about Fae politics. Madoc, their adoptive father, was terrifyingly compelling—ruthless yet oddly protective. And then there’s Oriana, who seems cold and distant but has her own complicated layers. One thing I really enjoyed was how dark this book was. The Fae here aren’t the romanticized, ethereal beings often seen in fantasy—they’re cruel. They manipulate, torture, and glamour humans for entertainment. It’s a much darker take on Fae lore, and honestly, it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted. That, paired with Holly Black’s stunningly immersive writing, made this book such a captivating read. Overall, “The Cruel Prince” was an intense, thrilling, and morally complex book with a world I couldn’t get enough of. While it wasn’t a perfect read for me, it was still incredibly enjoyable, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. If you love dark fantasy, court intrigue, and protagonists who refuse to back down, this book is for you. Just be prepared—this isn’t your typical YA fantasy. It’s brutal, twisted, and completely addictive.

GUYS THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! I was enchanted from the first page on. The pacing was perfect, the characters very authentic and diverse, the relations, especially between famil members, were unique. In the last 70 pages, the plot took a whole new direction which I didn't see coming AT ALL. Throughout the whole book, there was plottwist over plottwist and I can't WAIT to get my hands on the second book in January. Why is it still a whole year away??! Anyways, read it. Like, seriously. If you love dark fairytales and political schemes and the feeling of not being able to breath unless you turn the next page, this book is for YOU. Five stars, without any hesitation.

Doesn’t need a long analytical review, so here’s this: Not good but enjoyable. Good light start to reading YA fantasy, because it lowers your expectations and is easy to follow. The writer isn’t scared to ruin things which makes it interesting to read just to know what would happen next. What keeps me from giving this four stars is Jude, mostly. At some point she turns into a violent and cruel character. Yes, she's been through a lot and some people deserver her hatred, but the cruelty is off-putting in a heroine. Some of the turns I absolutely saw coming, just not the one about Oak until I was on the page where Jude learns about him. And I was right about who was going to be crowned in the end. The setup for the next book is promising though, so we'll see how that goes.

Der erste Band der Elfhame Stories, "The Cruel Prince" (dt. Titel "Elfenkrone") von Holly Black (2018) zeigte mir eine unerwartet fantastische Welt. Rezension mit Spoilern 🌱 Zu Beginn: Ich rede hier über das englische Paperback. Natürlich weicht die deutsche Optik ab und die Übersetzung wird auch nicht so sein, wie der originale Schreibstil. •• Die Gestaltung •• Das Paperback ist optisch eher schlicht, die Krone und der Rand der Schrift glänzen golden. Simple aber ansprechend. Innen haben wir eine liebevoll gestaltete Map. Zudem sind die Kapitel umrandet mit Blumen. Zeitsprünge sind auch mit einer gezeichneten Blume gekennzeichnet. Schön sind auch Kleinigkeiten, wie eine handschriftliche Notizzettel oder Lieder, bei Buchabschnitten. •• Der Aufbau •• Das Buch ist aufgeteilt in 2 Teile mit insgesamt 30 Kapitel und Epilog. In den einzelnen Kapitel passieren immer mal wieder Zeitsprünge, die aber nicht stören und, wie oben beschrieben, schön markiert sind! 🌼 •• Der Schreibstil •• Mit dem Buch habe ich mich nach langer Zeit wieder ins englische getraut. Perfekt für high fantasy! •• die Story und Charaktere •• Die Story handelt um Jude, welche als Kind mit ihren Schwestern von dem Mörder ihrer Eltern nach Elfhame entführt wird. Sie ist eine der wenigen Menschen im Reich der Elfen, besonders auffällig durch ihren Status, den sie dank des Entführers und so neuen Vaters genießen darf- normalerweise leben Menschen als Sklaven mit einem veränderten Blick in dem Königreich. Die 17-jährige Jude möchte ihrem Vater und der Krone gerecht werden und in das Militär eines der Prinzen -eine hoch angesehene Position- eintreten. Doch stehen ihr Vater und der jüngste Prinz ihr im Weg. Letzterer versucht ihr das Leben in jeder Hinsicht zu erschweren, auch wenn neben dem puren Hass noch etwas anderes zu schlummern scheint... Die Story baut sich langsam und gemächlich auf. Grade im letzten Drittel jedoch geht alles Schlag auf Schlag und ein Plottwist folgt dem Nächsten! Die Charaktere entwickeln sich mit der Story und man wird sehr mit Gedanken und Entscheidungen konfrontiert- nicht mitzufühlen ist fast unmöglich! Jude scheint anfangs eher ein Nebencharakter, bis sie anfängt, ihr Schicksal selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Sie ist eine sehr starke, aber noch junge Persönlichkeit, die zwischen impulsiven Gefühlen und strategischem Denken steht. Alles in allem ist es ein sehr inhaltsvolles Buch und es hatte deutlich mehr zu bieten, als es von außen den Anschein macht. Es hat mich mitgerissen, gleichzeitig habe ich aber nicht denn absoluten Drang mir den nächsten Band zu holen. (May contain small Spoilers!) Why did I underestimate the power of this book and its story so much? I've read that it contains romance, like enemies to lovers and slow burn. Because of this I thought the romance was the main theme of the book, but Im glad it wasn't. Jude is such a cool main character! I liked how she has become more and more her true self. At some point she stopped caring and pretending. The book unpacks the cruel and dangerous faults of magic, but also longing/making you wish for it. I liked how no character was all good or all evil. The story with Sophie made me really sad 🥲 I underlined so many cool and deep quotes, here are a few: "Because you're like a story that hasn't happened yet" "Now tell me, which part was the lie? Did I lie at all? Because what's so great about lying is the not knowing." "If I cannot be better than them, I become so much worse" "I think of the future I thought I was going to have and the one yawning in front of me like a chasm." "I get why *he* chose her. I just wish *she* had chosen me" "Everything is spiraling into chaos anyway. Might as well have some fun."

Hat mich nicht so abgeholt wie erwartet. Ich glaube als Jugendliche hätte es mir mehr gefallen. Hatte zu Beginn Probleme mit dem Schreibstil. Auch die Inkonsequenz der persönlichen Ansprache der Leser*innen durch die Protagonistin am Anfang, die danach nie wieder vorkommt hat mir nicht gefallen. Es war nichts, was man noch nicht gelesen hat, was aber per se nicht dramatisch ist. Manchmal waren es unnötig viele Details, und viele der Charaktere hinterlassen keinen bleibenden Eindruck. Da ich am Ende aber doch interessiert genug war, um den nächsten Teil zu beginnen, gibt es doch noch 3 Sterne.

Ich wollte diese Buch schon seit einer Weile Lesen, und ja Ich liebe es. Es ist eine super interessante Geschichte und hat keine Stelle die nicht spannend ist. Man ist von der Ersten Minute drinnen. Habe vorher die Faerie Trilogie gelesen welche mich leider nicht wirklich packen konnte, The Darkest Part of the Forest kann ich empfehlen davor gelesen zu haben, ich war dadurch direkt bekannt mit der Welt. Ich liebe Jude einfach, Sie ist so eine Starke Persönlichkeit. Und Carden, ist einfach ein so Intersant, auch wenn er natürlich sich hier etwas "schwierig" verhält ab und an aber ich kann es nach diesem Ende kaum abwarten weiter zulesen es wird definitiv interessant (Engl) I've been wanting to read this book for a while and yes, I love it. It's a super interesting story and there isn't a part that isn't exciting. You're right in the middle of it from the first minute. I have previously read the Faerie trilogy, which unfortunately didn't really grab me, I can recommend to read The Darkest Part of the Forest beforehand, I was immediately familiar with the world. I jusintt love Jude, she's such a strong character. And Carden is just so interesting, even if he is a bit "difficult" from time to time, but I can't wait to continue reading more after this ending, it's gonna get very intense I guess.

Ich bin echt schwierig in die Story rein gekommen. Der schreibstil war mir einfach zu blumig und die Charaktere fand ich alle lowkey nervig. Bis zur Hälfte hab ich echt überlegt, ob ich das Buch abbrechen soll, aber ab der Hälfte wurds dann auf einmal spannend, weil endlich mal Sachen passiert sind! Zum Schluss kamen echt noch einige plottwists die ich so nicht erwartet hab. Fand ich super. All in all, fand ich das Buch okayy, der Schluss was echt das beste am ganzen Buch. Ich hoffe die Charaktere kriegen in den nächsten Teilen wenigstens bisschen Charakterentwicklung weil no- einfach no. 🥲 im sorry, bin echt nicht warm geworden mit denen. Also das Buch hatte Potential und ich hätte es auch besser bewertet, hätte ich die Charaktere gemocht, oder den schreibstil, oder wär das Buch von Anfang an so spannend gewesen sie der Schluss, aber so kriegt s von mir stabile 2,5 ⭐️ Kann man machen, muss man nicht.

Hatte mir eigentlich ziemlich viel von dem Buch erhofft, da man ja fast nur positives sieht aber ich musste es abbrechen. Es zieht sich unglaublich lange, es ist super langweilig und es passiert einfach nicht wirklich was. Und nein ich möchte keine Buchreihe lesen bei der es erst ab Buch 2 mal aufwärts geht, denn das heißt für mich einfach dass es nicht gut geschrieben ist, wenn man es nicht mal schafft den ersten Teil einer Reihe spannend zu gestalten. Die Charaktere? Die reinste Katastrophe! Super flach und uninteressant geschrieben. Das Worldbuilding ist für mich kein Worldbuilding sondern purer Infodump. Es wird einfach irgendeine Information über die Welt in die Story geworfen, aber dann nie wirklich erklärt und ich habe eigentlich kaum verstanden wie die Welt funktioniert. Und ich habe schon sehr viele Fantasybücher mit kompliziertem Worldbuilding gelesen und dieses besser verstanden. Wo das Buch laut bootok Rezensionen politisch sein soll frage ich mich auch. Nur weil am Rande mal die Politik der Welt erwähnt wird, ist es noch lange kein Fantasy Buch wo die Politik im Vordergrund steht. Da ich bereits vor dem Lesen schon etwas gespoilert wurde wusste ich, dass sich am Rande der Geschichte, als neben Plot eine Romanze zwischen Jude und Cardan entwickeln soll. Schon als Cardan zum ersten Mal vorkam hatte ich überhaupt keine Lust darauf zu lesen wie sich zwischen den beiden irgendwas entwickelt. Cardan ist einfach nur unausstehlich. Und das Argument, dass es ja enemies to lovers ist, ist für mich völliger Quark. Ich VERGÖTTERE enemies to lovers aber das ist kein enemies to lovers. Klar sollten bei enemies to lover die Charaktere auch tatsächlich Feinde sein aber die beiden sind keine Feinde, es sind einfach nur zwei Teenager die sich nicht ausstehen können und gegenseitig mobben. Judes Vater dient mit vollstem Stolz der Königsfamilie, wo soll denn da der enemies Part zwischen Jude und Cardan herkommen? Wie gesagt, die beiden sind nicht verfeindet, sie können sich nur nicht leiden. Das als enemies to lovers hinzustellen wirft ein völlig falsches Bild auf den Trope, denn das hier ist einfach nur bully-romance. Allein, dass ich jetzt schon so viele Kritikpunkte habe obwohl ich das Buch nicht mal beendet habe, zeigt für mich alles. Wieder einmal zeigt sich , dass ich booktok und seinen Rezensionen nicht vertrauen kann. Sehr enttäuschend...

Ich habe viel gutes von dem Buch gehört aber auch das die Handlung etwas schleppend voran geht. Während ich gelesen habe kam mir kein Mal der Gedanke auf das ich die Handlung langweilig finde oder es mir zu langsam vorangeht, im Gegenteil ich fand die Abfolge der Geschehnisse sehr passend. Ich kann also den Kritikpunkt das es zu langsam vorangeht aus meiner Sicht nicht bestätigen. Zudem ist die Hauptfigur Jude einfach die Definition von Girl Boss. Ihre Entwicklungen im Buch zu verfolgen war wahnsinnig spannend. Auch die anderen Charaktere die man während der Handlung immer besser kennenlernt haben ihre eigenen moralischen Vorstellungen was zu einer sehr spannenden Geschichte beiträgt.
