I honestly don't know what to say or think. For the first 200 pages, I stuck around purely for the mystery—the riddles, the puzzles, the games. And to be fair, that part delivered. The inheritance challenges and secret trails were clever and exciting, and they kept me turning the pages. But the characters and side plots? That’s where the story began to lose me. I’ve never been a fan of love triangles, and the one here felt both drawn out and emotionally inconsistent. Avery’s romantic indecision—especially her continued fixation on Grayson even while growing closer to Jameson—became frustrating. Grayson remained my favorite character throughout the series. He’s complex, grounded, and emotionally layered in a way that made him far more compelling to me. Xander, on the other hand, was a breath of fresh air. His humor and unpredictability added some much-needed levity to the darker and more emotionally intense moments. And then there’s Toby. My heart broke for him multiple times. His story is tragic and messy, but it added real depth to the family’s history and to the stakes of the final gambit. As for the ending—it was surprising, yet somehow not? I didn’t expect everything that happened, but once it was revealed, it felt inevitable.

This was such a fun conclusion to the series. When I read the second book I was a little afraid that this book would feel dragged out but it wasn't. I really liked how everything played out and that Epilogue had the same feeling as the first chapter of the first book. It was so Avery and you can feel the growth she had but that she never lost her wittiness and the things she's passionate about. It was so fun having all of them come together to solve this last mystery. I love that it all came down to one last chess match. It just felt right. I don't really have much to say other than these characters really grew on me and all the plot-twists and reveals kept me super entertained. I am really curious to see what the author did with "The Brothers Hawthorne", but for now I am just happy with how this all concluded.

For some reason this is my least favorite book in the series. The whole ending is so unsatisfying to me. Some things were solved differently from what I expected and a few things were still unclear at the end, so questions remained. And what the hell happened to Toby? I just expected the course of the whole story to develop into something else. But it was still a nice read!

-i liked that the ending teased “the grandest game” which was recently published and it sounds pretty interesting in fact -I would have loved to read a special chapter from Blake’s pov when the breaking news was announced that Avery donated 95% of her assets to charitable causes hahaha —— “Let your anger light a fire that the world will never extinguish”

Okay I’m once again speechless. But I’ll find the words. So let’s talk about this book and the whole series! I went into this book not knowing what to expect bc Jennifer Lynn Barnes out-did herself with the first two books in the series. And I thought what could possibly be happening next bc in my head all questions were answered. I WAS WRONG! Just when I thought there couldn’t be a new riddle she hit me with a new one. And I didn’t know Barnes left some questions unanswered in the first two books until she gave me the answer. And this is definitely the best I’ve read so far. I just felt so at home. I really sank into a chapter and when I hit it’s end I was like I should stop reading here… ah screw it one ore chapter and I NEVER had that experience in a book before. And I loved the characters ! They felt like found family and if I could turn back in time and only could do one thing it would be rereading this series. Btw I’m Team Grayson…. But yeah I will recommend this series to every person that asks for recommendations so be aware! I’m literally so sad that it’s all over now but I can’t wait for ‘the Brothers Hawthorne’ !

4.5 Stars - I just love the Hawthorne Boys so much & the mystery in this book kept me so hooked - but was a tiny bit disappointed in how it was resolved. But still loved this, but I do feel like this series is still pretty much unfinished, like there are a lot of stories that still can be told in this universe

✭ 3,5 ✭ Eigentlich hätte ich gerne 4 Sterne gegeben, aber es gab doch einiges, was mir an der Reihe nicht so gefallen hat. Die Geschichte an sich war cool und man wollte gerne wissen, wie es weitergeht. Generell fand ich aber, dass es sich eher wie ein Buch angefühlt hat, nicht wie eine Reihe aus drei distinkten Büchern. Ich fand außerdem die ganzen Rätsel sehr cool, aber als Leser konnte man gar nicht miträtseln, was ich etwas schade fand. Auch wie das love-triangle gelöst wurde (bzw. eher nicht gelöst wurde) hat mir nicht gefallen. Das Ende war ok.

Habe den letzten Band innerhalb eines halben Tages gelesen, wie die anderen Bücher war auch dieser Band schnell durchgelesen. Charakterentwicklungen gab es ein paar kleine, mir war das aber nicht genug. Der letzte Showdown war ganz gut, den Rest fand ich ein bisschen enttäuschend bzw nicht beeindruckend. Ich habe die Reihe gelesen weil ich auf ein Buch warte, welches ich vorbestellt habe und noch nicht wieder lieferbar ist. Jetzt bin ich fertig mit der Reihe, aber das Buch ist noch nicht da. Als kleinen Zeitvertreib ok, aber das ist kein Buch über das ich noch lange später drüber nachdenke, schade, die Idee an sich war ganz gut.

The triology is finally at an end and i am not really sure why this has taken so long. An entire year to discover what the reason for all this was about was kind of anticlimactic. I love the ending however and the nice setup for further books which will hopefully be more enclosed and more straight forward and a bit mor cozy and less "high stakes" which to be honest i've never felt this book achieved.

Normally is the first book of a series that is the best. Not by this trilogy! This book gets better the more you read it. You think you see the whole picture, but it was not even the tip of the iceberg. I loved the book and was the hole time so excited while reading it. The nexus of integrity that drew all its way to all three books. It was unbelievable

Jetzt habe ich nun auch endlich den letzten (richtigen) Band der Inheritance-Reihe beendet und ich muss sagen, es war wirklich ein richtig schönes und rundes Ende der Reihe. Endlich wurden die letzten Rätsel des Tobias Hawtrone gelöst. Auch neue Charaktere, wie Eve haben die Handlung dennoch nochmals gut aufgemischt. Generell hatte die Story eine sehr klare Linie wurde aber durch einige kleinere Plottwist doch nochmal aufgemischt. Alles in allem hat mir die Reihe sehr gut gefallen! Now I have finally finished the last (real) volume of the Inheritance series and I have to say, it was a really nice and well-rounded end to the series. Tobias Hawtrone's final mysteries have finally been solved. New characters like Eve also mixed up the plot nicely. In general, the story had a very clear line but was mixed up again by a few minor plot twists. All in all, I really enjoyed the series!

Um ehrlich zu sein, ich das erste Drittel gaaar nicht reingekommen und dachte dass die Autorin nachgelassen hat. Aber Heilige sche*ße ich habe mich geirrt. Dieses Buch hat alles: ~ Spannende Riddles und Mysteries 🧐✅ ~Plottwists (ach du meine Güte) 😱✅ ~Ein wenig Romance 🥰✅ ~Momente in denen man so laut kichern muss, dass man im Bus schief angeguckt wird 🤭

Einfach nur wieder krass und mindblowing!😵‍💫 Ich brauch garnicht viel sagen, dieser Teil war genauso wie die ersten beiden einfach nur total krass, die ganze Zeit spannend und richtig gut geschrieben! Am Anfang dachte ich noch, hmm was soll denn überhaupt noch passieren, das Ende des zweiten Buches hatte ja nichts angedeutet oder so, aber meine Erwartungen wurden natürlich mal wieder übertroffen! Was Jennifer Lynn Barnes mit dieser Reihe erschaffen hat ist einfach nur crazy! Ich habe jedes einzelne Buch geliebt und wortwörtlich verschlungen! Absolute Empfehlung und definitiv ein Jahres-Highlight! Freue mich auf schon auf 'The Brothers Hawthorne'🤭

Mit Spoilern Der erste Teil der Reihe war wirklich gut, der zweite in Ordnung, aber bei diesem Buch bereue ich jede gelesene Seite. Die Charaktere: Generell:Dafür, dass die verschiedenen HP immer als so schlau dargestellt wurden, hat es bei sehr einfachen rätseln zu lange gedauert und als Leser war es jedes Mal aufs neue für mich enttäuschend, wenn die Lösung genau das ist, was mein erster Gedanke war. Alle personenbezogenen in diesem Haus sollten außerdem definitiv in Therapie Avery: die love Triangel kam mit die ganze zeit seltsam und etwas peinlich vor, zumal sie nicht jameson die ganze zeit versichern kann, dass er der einzige für sie ist, nur um jedes mal wenn grayson und eve interagieren wütend zu werden Beispiel für die unnötigen Gedankengänge: findet etwas, das mit der Bibel verbunden werden kann und entschließt sich zu googeln, anstatt Max anzurufen. Das wäre von Anfang an das schnellste und logische gewesen, kein Grund zum Telefonat und jedes Mal die Überraschung, wenn man etwas mit Schach verbinden konnte, ist ja nicht so, als wäre das der Grund für ihre und Tobias Beziehung. Grayson: bekommt vor allem hier nie wirkliche Konsequenzen zu spüren. Ka, der tot von emily war für ihn traumatksch und die Behandlung auf Seiten des Großvaters hat das ganze nicht verbessert, ABER: Kann nur über die Wichtigkeit von Familie und Familie beschützt Familie reden, nur um durchgehend eve( eine unbekannte) zu verteidigen und als er ( nachdem eve eine waffe auf avery richtet) sich entschuldigt ist das einzige was er zu hören bekommt ein " du musst dich nicht entschuldigen". Klar avery wäre ja nur fast gestorben, hat mehrere Male gesagt, das sie Eve nicht trauen können und und und, aber der arme gray darf ja nicht noch mehr verletzt werden Jameson: eigentlich Mediatoren, aber besser als Gray, zumindest konnte man über die Bücher einen deutlich positiven Wandel bemerken, aber auch hier ist das ganze Familiendrama im Weg. Beispiel: er sperrt avery zur sicherheit ein, nachdem sie wiederholt gesagt hat, dass sie eve nicht trauen können und geht mit ihr und grad, nur um wütend zu werden, das avery danach mit ihren Freunden einer anderen Spur nachgeht, weil Er HaT SIcH jA Sorgen GEmaCht. UND AVERY NICHT ODER WIE? Max: scheint nur eine Aufmunterung u sein, aber das falsche fluchen wird nach einiger Zeit einfach nur peinlich Alison: wäre zumindest hier sehr schnell von mir gefeiert werden. Ist sie gut in ihrem Beruf? Ja. Vergisst sie zu häufig, dass sie averys angestellte ist? Ja, die nerven etc von ihr... Oren: kleine Makel, aber einzige halbwegs gute Person Schreibstil, Plot etc. Alles war offensichtlich, vor allem der verrat durch eve. Viele Sätze, z.b. im Bezug auf den Großvater der jungen haben sich einfach zu oft wiederholt Generell bereue ich es, das Buch nicht früher abgebrochen zu haben

But sometimes that's all that it is: an idea.” i didn't really enjoy the romance plot, how everything was resolved, most of the characters, and i felt the entire book was unnecessary. it could've easily been condensed into a duology. nothing in this book made sense to me; it just tried too hard with plot twists and mysteries. the answers to those mysteries were also quite disappointing. moreover, a rich man with numerous connections opting for a chess game to determine everything seemed SO odd. on the bright side, i did appreciate the writing style, enjoyed two characters, and finally got why Tobias Hawthorne did what he did. i'm surprised there are more books planned; i sincerely hope the grandest game will be the last addition to this series.

This’s SHOULD have been a 3 star read, but the last 40 pages made me cringe so incredibly hard that I had to deduct a star. First of all, if I ever have to read “a very risky gamble” again, I’m gonna do something VERY sill. Second of all, the foundation name sounds so incredibly bad that i cannot believe the author wrote this. And lastly, Avery gives off the worst girlboss feminism vibes that I ever encountered in a book. I hope she gets the help she needs.

aber auch dieses buch war wieder spannend und steht den ersten beiden teilen in nichts nach, weil man zum beispiel unbedingt wissen wollte, wer hinter der entführung steckt und wie die geschichte am ende ausgeht und was noch für geheimnisse gelüftet werden. es passiert so viel unvorhergesehenes und wir erfahren endlich was für geheimnisse die familie hawthorne und die familie laughlin noch verborgen haben. man kommt aus dem staunen fast nicht raus, so spannend ist der letzte teil dieser atemberaubenden reihe. in diesem buch gibt es noch ein letztes spiel, aber diesmal nicht von tobias hawthorne sondern von einem neuen gegenspieler. eine neue figur auf dem schachbrett. und ein tödliches spiel, bei dem avery droht alles zu verlieren. die plottwists waren wieder richtig unerwartet und haben mich einfach nur vom komplett hocker gehauen. das buch ist  natürlich wie die anderen auch, einfach nur *chefskiss*. ich liebeee diese reihe und bin wirklich so traurig, dass es vorbei ist :( und holy ich liebe alle charaktere. avery einfach nh krasse bad bitch. und dann noch die hawthorne brüder, wie alle 5 zu einer richtigen familie geworden sind. toby, thea, rebecca, alisa, oren, max und libby. alle bekommen ganz viel liebe von mir <333 und besonders jameson und xander bekommen gaaanz viel liebe. und avery ist einfach ein strong female character, lieben wiiiiirr. uuund ich kann euch gar nicht sagen wie gespannt ich auf 'the brothers hawthorne' und 'the grandest game' bin ahhhhhhh

Der 3. Band der Serie bietet ein grundsätzlich ein gutes Ende der Geschichte um Avery. Die Rätsel wurden gelöst und ich mochte sehr gerne, dass einige Charaktere an Tiefe gewannen in diesem Buch. Besonders Avery hat man als Leser wirklich gut kennengelernt und sie hat für mich über die letzten Bücher eine wirklich große Entwicklung gemacht. Wie die Charaktere von Toby und Tobias Hawthorne, zum Beispiel, sich letztlich herausgestellt haben, fand ich auch super spannend! Die generelle Geschichte hat mich leider nicht 100%ig abholen können, möglicherweise da ich durch Social Media ein Thriller-Ähnliches Ende erwartet hatte. Ein bisschen Spannung kam zwar auf, aber ich war zu keinem Zeitpunkt wirklich hooked - diese Einschätzung mag aber auch an meinen (möglicherweise zu) hohen Erwartungen liegen.

Sorry not sorry. After the mystery of Avery‘s background and real parents and the real reason she inherited everything was solved in Book 2 this could have been it but no. The third one seems dragged out with more mysteries and additional character and other characters having a bitter ending (yes I’ve read a summary because I couldn’t bring myself to read this and was simply in a bad mood thinking about finishing this damn book). This type of Y/A books is just not for me I guess.
