I think I'm too old for this type of YA adventure story by now I enjoyed the characters and the worldbuilding, but I sadly seem not to enjoy the typical "the characters get sent on a quest and meet allies and foes along the way" story format anymore DNF at 35%
Super gut und interessant geschrieben. Ist mal was ganz neues mit Teilen von westafrikanischer Geschichte und Legenden.

2.5⭐️ Am Ende hatte ich noch etwas Hoffnung, dass Esu ein Love Interest wäre, ist er aber nicht. Die Chemie zwischen Simi und Kola konnte ich nicht fühlen und das Worldbuilding hat mich leider garnicht überzeugt. Die Sterne gibts aber für den Mermaid-Trope☺️
I haven‘t read a single page in this book in a week, haven‘t even thought about it except as a burden of something I should/need to finish. So I‘m actually DNF‘ing it. Bowen has lovely prose and the cover is beautiful but this is your typical journey adventure story. The two main characters fell completely flat for me because they were very one dimensional. The strong feelings Simidele develops for the main guy a few days after meeting him gave me insta-love vibes and really put me off, especially after she‘s been told not to fall in love with a human (as it will have terrible consequences). *facepalm* Not for me.
