As all of my Goodreads-Friends are deeply in love with this book, I decided to give it a try. Reading the descrpition, I was sure that I'd love the book cause I really liked the whole idea. Now that I finished the book, it turns out that apparently I don't like the genre. For me, the book was just super-predictable [Cinder is from Lunar? You don't say!! Cinder is princess Selene? I'm so surprised!!]. There was no real plottwist and for me, there is nothing worse than a predictable book (*Cough* The fault in our stars *cough*). I also figured that I don't like the whole setting with androids, hovers and all this futuristic stuff. I literally had to take a few days without reading because I was so annoyed by this book. On a positive note, I really liked the writing-style and prince Kai as well as Iko. But ... that's about it. I really don't know if I'm going to read the second book anytime soon, even though I heard that it's better than Cinder.

Nice book🤍

I would say it was a slow start, strong finish book✨️📚 I never read sci-fi until now and I must say that I kinda like it😊 it ends in a big cliffhanger and I'm glad I already bought the whole series📚📚📚... I really recommend this book although I have to say that in my opinion, it's not much based on cinderella but that's totally fine🫶🏻 great for sci-fi beginners!

*3.5 (maybe 3.75)* Indeed, I do like the book. I liked the writing style, I think Cinder is a great main character and I'm totally in love with Kai, but who isn't? I think the idea of a cyborg cinderella story is AMAZING!! I enjoyed the book and read it in one short and one long sitting but I had such high expectations towards this book and it didn't reach it and I'm so sad about it. I really wanted to love this book but instead I most definitely only wanted to slap Adri and Pearl, because reasons, and Cinder for not telling Kai she is a cyborg like???? IT WOULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH EASIER UGH And I guessed the plot twist almost from the beginning so this wasn't a suprise either. But near the end it really hooked me up and the cliffhanger is DESTRUCTIVE like how can you end a book like this??? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? But overall I enjoyed this book, just not as much as I hoped I would, but I'm thrilled to find out what happens next! PS: I kinda forced me through this book because I actually wanted to read another book but I started Cinder already so I wanted to finish it and maybe that affected my reading enjoyment... soooo I'm probaly gonna re-read it when I get the second book and, well, maybe my thoughts on the book will change, I'm gonna let you know. PPS: Sorry for my bad english, since it's not my native language :)

I love this novel so much because of the exciting story that captured me!😍 The novel is easy to read and the characters are great!😊 The maincharacter is Cinder. Cinder is a very talented mechanic and she is also a cyborg. I like Cinder very much because she is very brave, because she fights for her freedom and because she does everything to help the people she loves!😘 The lovestory between Cinder and Prince Kai touched my heart!❤️ To sum up it is an amazing novel because the story in this novel shows us that peace, freedom and love are very important!🥰☺️👍

This book was on my to-read list for a long time and I am so glad I finally got around to read it. The world-building around Cyborgs etc is super interesting and super cool. What we've seen of the Lunarian world-building also seems pretty cool but the two parts still have a pretty stark Fantasy vs Scifi contrast that sometimes made it difficult to picture both in the same world. I assume we'll see more of Luna in the following books and that it will become easier to link these worlds (while still keeping the part of the contrast that is important for the story). Even though in some parts the love story went too fast to find it realistic, it was refreshing not to see a love triangle and that the male love interest for the female protagonist is not a "bad boy" but instead is genuinely nice to her. He doesn't even have some kind of agenda when it comes to her. He's just a teenager that works through his own struggles (um, becoming emperor at a very young age bc his father died, ugh) and flirts with a pretty commoner. It's just like... they are teenagers and they behave like it. Also, the androids are a blessing, Iko especially. I reeeally hope we get to see some more of her. I especially enjoyed the human mechanic plus traditionally female helper android dynamic, Cinder and her had going and, when it comes to that, Cinder, while being a mechanic and not that much interested in celebrity gossip (basically going against feminine stereotypes) being close friends (I would argue best friends) with her android and sister with very feminine interests but never looking down on it. She could have very easily been a "I'm not like other girls" protagonist and in many ways she shares similarities with them but I always felt like it was more of a subverted trope scenario, as she was often shown not having interests that are seen as feminine while being aware of it and mostly not caring but not relating it to the girls and women around her that did and also did care. Very refreshing to read.

I was so excited when I ordered Cinder and couldn't wait to read it but for some reason I postponed it. I don't know why it took me so long to actually start it. I'm just glad I finally got the chance to read it because it's amazing! I loved every little scene of it! Marissa Meyer's imagination is brilliant, her descriptions of the characters and the surroundings are fantastic and so detailed. I had absolutely no problems to vision everything. Sure, at first I didn't know what to think of all the cyborgs and androids but now, after all, it makes perfectly sense. "Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time." Cinder Linh is a total badass! I loved her from the very beginning and my opinion of her didn't falter. Not one bit. She's brave, strong, sarcastic and so, so clever! She doesn't need a guy to watch out for her and yet she's still so lovely and cute. Does that make sense? Her entire image enthralled me ... Cinder(ella) being a mechanic and oh, also a cyborg? That's awesome! Honest, passionate, caring, loyal - she's ALL that and so much more! I would want someone like her as a best friend, I mean seriously, who wouldn't? And then there's Prince Kaito. My dear, Kai. Oh how I love him. He's so handsome and sweet. I could imagine him PERFECTLY. Flirting with me Cinder, smiling his gorgeous smile at me her and just being himself. He's great and I understand why everyone of those 200.000 single girls (according to Cinder) fell for him. Make that 200.001, Cinder, because I did too. What I really liked is that it isn't about the typical "insta-love". Yes, there's a strong attraction and chemistry between those 2 but they're not immediately head over heels in love. It's a slow development with super cute ups and then there are massive downs. It's great. Cinder twisted up her lips. "Do you think it could have a virus?" "Maybe her programming was overwhelmed by Prince Kai's uncanny hotness." Generally I have to say that I liked and/or disliked every character as it was intended. Disliked the obvious evil and cruel characters, such as Queen Levana and her entourage but also Adri and Pearl and liked the others. Peony warmed my heart and I was glad she and Cinder got along well. Iko is also a very lovely person android and besided Peony someone who managed to bring a smile to my lips. Dr. Erland is another character I liked a lot! Especially because he encouraged Cinder and tried to help her and towards the end ... oh well, I just like this "crazy" old man! I hope to see him again! I didn't trust the emperor's/prince' advisor although there was no real reason? So far at least, I don't know about the other books yet. At times he seemed very suspicious but then again not so much. He just confused me. The plot was a bit predictable but still very entertaining. The ideas of the author were interesting and refreshing and altogether with the characters, the scenery and everything else it was a pleasure to read "Cinder"! I enjoyed it immensely and never got bored. Quite the opposite! I couldn't get enough once I started and even read it in a day and a half. It just captivated me. So, if you like fairytales/retellings, great characters, cyborgs and lots of awesomeness, I totally recommend this! And now I'm more than read for book 2 - I'm looking forward to read it as soon as possible! www.aworldbetweenfoldedpages.blogspot.com

I just love it.

The lunar chronicles is one of my favourite series of books ever. And Cinder is the perfect first heroin in the series. She is funny and sarcastic and I loved watching her grow and learn throughout the book. Marissa Meyer has a talent for writing the characters individually and as a dynamic group. Also as a big fairytale lover it was great to see how different elements of the original fairytale was included in this modern setting. I recommended this book to several friends and everybody loved it!

In jeder Hinsicht. Irgendwann. In weiter Zukunft.

I’ve been obsessed with a book and had to simply write a review about Cinder by Marissa Meyer. There’s been a huge hype about it a few years ago and I finally caught up on it after I had some thoughts about it. Because if something gets too hyped, I automatically hate it. Don’t ask me why, I simply do not know it myself. And since I put this book on my Popsugar Reading Challenge list, I kind of had to read it. It was worth it is all I can say now. Storyline Cinder rotates around a teenage girl mechanic cyborg called Cinder Linh, living in New Beijing, the future Asian area. The girl is an Orphan and growing up with her Stepmother Adri and her two Stepsisters Pearl and Peony. Their dad passed away on the Blue Fever, a plague that has spread around the world after the Lunar nation, resident on the Moon, came down to Earth. Garen, Cinder’s dead Stepdad, adopted Cinder after he has found her already parentless in Europe. All Cinder knows is that her parents died in a Hover crash while she lost one foot and hand, which got replaced by mechanic prosthetics. Cyborgs aren’t really welcomed but tolerated in the world’s society while Lunar people are feared since they are able to manipulate people. It's been five years since I first read this book and it hasn't lost any of its charm to me. Fairy tale retellings have been all the rage in the past years, but this series remains among the most inventive reads I have ever read. It's timeless - lots of YA these days is filled with references and phrases that seem dated a few years later. This is not the case with the Lunar Chronicles. Of course, Cinder is not a perfect book - it's a bit insta-lovey and I wish there was more world building, but there's something I just love about it.

I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to read this. I really wish I would have read it much earlier. Cinder was on my wishlist for – who knows – like two or three years and only when I saw people posting pictures of Winter, the final book of the series, it reminded me of how desperately I wanted to start this series. Cinder is one hell of a story and a perfect mixture of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Star Wars and Sailor Moon – yes, Sailor Moon, you heard me right. Cinder basically is a retelling of Cinderella, what I find quite refreshing since Cinderella has always been one of my favorite Disney movies ever. The Eastern Commonwealth is a new unified Asia that has existed for many many years now. But besides to all the new unions and countries on earth, there is also an entirely kingdom on the moon – Lunar. The relationship between Earth and Lunar is unstable and the political disagreements between the two kingdoms do not help to stabilize the relationship between Earth and Lunar. This book is a mixture of science fiction, fairy tales and dystopia taking place in the city of New Beijing many many years in the future. In this world, humans and cyborgs live together; in a world where human bodies get extended with mechanical elements if their actual body parts are injured in a way that can’t be healed anymore. So actually in this world it’s possible to turn a human being into a cyborg to save them from certain death. Cyborgs are all possible test subjects in order to find a cure for the world’s new plague outbreak of letumosis. And so is Cinder, who gets unwillingly turned in by her guardian; her adoptive mother, after a tragic incident. When she meets Prince Kai, the Emporer’s son, she gets the feeling that life might still be worth living. She’s all caught in work, which she likes, she is accompanied by her little robot friend named Iko and there’s also that ball coming up to look forward to and not only because the prince himself invited her as a private guest, but also because all of the secrets that still need to be revealed. Even though Cinder hasn’t met my expectations throughly I have to say that I really really enjoyed reading it. Marissa Meyer created some brilliant characters, slightly similar to the actual characters from the fairy tale though. Cinder is like a rogh diamond, who’s ready for some serious character development. Cinder has been through so much already, survived the worst accident ever, was “turned” into a cyborg, what ended her human life and made her a second-class citizen forced to live with someone who hates her; who treats her like crap. There are quite a few similarities to the actual fairy tale but still it’s so different. Concerning what she’s gone through in her young life already she’s determined not to give up and to stay strong. Cinder is such a great character, someone you can relate to. Someone who shows you that you should never give up on your dreams even if that means that you have to work hard for it. But besides all the good in my opinion at some point the story either just went too fast or too slow. It needs more than three “dates” to fall in love. Marissa Meyer kind of made the relationship between Cinder and Kai look so near and intense but actually it wasn’t. The book is completely owned by Cinder, despite the fact that there is like the worst plague going on ever and despite Kai being a Prince and stuff. I wished Cinder and Kai had more moments together, to intensify their relationship at least a little. I also think that the whole story was kind of predictable. After I’ve read the first couple of chapters I knew what was going to happen in the end. I just knew because it was so obvious. Sadly the story isn’t as adventures and mysterious as I’ve hoped for. It even was kind of boring from time to time, a little lengthy but I think that’s okay considering that this is the first book in a series. I think Marissa Meyer chose a good way to introduce her readers to the world she’s created and to the whole history behind all that and also to all the very cool and interesting characters. The book is very well written, I couldn’t put it down but still I’ve expected it to be a little more captivating. But the book left me behind curious. I can’t wait to find out what’s gonna happen next and I can’t wait to see all these amazing characters develop. I mean, Cinderella being a cyborg? You just can’t go wrong with something unique like that.

I finished this a few days ago, but never had the time to actually review it on Goodreads. I never thought I'd enjoy this as much as I did. Yes, it was very predictable, and yes, there are common YA tropes in there, but they were so nicely packaged that I didn't even care about it. I read it, and just wanted to keep reading and keep reading because it was addicting. Even after reading the first chapter I knew: This is going to be one of my new favorites. Even after reading only the first half I went on Amazon and immediately ordered the rest of the series. And Prince Kai ... oh how long has it been since I really loved a male main character? I loved this! Now onto everything else Marissa Meyer has ever written!

I LOVED IT I FREAKING LOVED IT. I FLEW THREW THE WHOLE BOOK AND I WAS SO ENGROSSED THAT I ATE ALMOST ALL MY FINGERS, not that I didn't know what will happen, I was kind of like oh yeah I am sure that will happen but the way the story was told was amazing that it kept me inside of it and not just that as soon as i kept down the book to eat or sleep I was just talking about what the story is about, how fantastic the cover is, how amazing the world is. My judgment might be clouded because I have heard everything good about it from the beginning and i was so freaking excited to read it, to hold it in my hands that I almost cried when the mailman delivered the book to me and trust me I keep admiring the book cover (It doesn't come that easily to a graphic designer, trust me). I wanted to savor it so much that i stretched reading it for 2 days i could have finished it in one sitting for sure. Amazing retelling of Cinderella, Disney should have made a live action of this book instead. One more thing- lko I am sure you looked great in that pearl necklace :*
