Anfangs war es verwirrend mit den verschiedenen Perspektiven, weil ich nie ganz wusste, in welcher man gerade ist. Das legt sich jedoch nach den ersten Kapiteln. Es war eine unfassbar spannende Reise. Die Plottwists haben mich tatsächlich überrascht und auch wenn ich Anfangs dachte, James wäre einfach eine Kopie von "Laurent" aus der Captive Prince Trilogie (gleiche*r Autor*in) , wurde schnell deutlich, dass sich die beiden wesentlich unterscheiden. Will und James sind keine typische Liebesgeschichte und ebenso wie Violet und Cyprian sind sie unfassbar komplexe Charaktere. Einfach gut geschrieben!

I've read raving reviews about this book and was so excited for it. Now I'm glad I didn't already buy the second book. It was so surface level. I didn't care about the story or the characters at all. The same few things were repeated over and over and over again, it really started to piss me off at some point. The characters were described as smart and clever and whatnot and then proceeded to act like the world's stupidest 10-year-olds. I just couldn't form a connection to any of them. I really don't know if I want to read the second book. The writing style is really not for me and even the plot twist that everyone was raving about didn't do it for me. It was good, I guess. I still don't really care. Which is sad because I wanted to.

Ich habe diese Buch damals verschlungen und kann eigentlich immer noch nicht in Worte fassen wie sehr mich dieses Buch in seine Welt entführt hat nur um mich am Ende mit diesem Plottwist komplett sprachlos und mit einer Wartezeit von über einem Jahr zurück zu lassen. „Natürlich willst du das“ 😍

Ich wollte dieses Buch wirklich sehr gerne mögen und habe mich auch bis fast Seite 300 durchgeschlagen und dann doch das Handtuch werfen müssen. Man merkt schnell, dass der Schreibstil sehr für jüngere Leser*innen ausgelegt ist. Immer und immer wieder muss der Plot noch 2-3 mal extra erwähnt werden, damit man sicher geht, dass jeder jetzt auch sicher weiss was demnächst passiert. Die Charaktere sind mir zu flach und es ist alles super gerushed. Ich verstehe den Hype um Dark Rise prinzipiell, da die Story und die Idee für die Charaktere definitiv gut sind aber für mich war's dann doch nichts.

Liebe das Buch und die Charktere. Das world building ist atemberaubend und die Charaktere absolut faszinierend und nach meinem Geschmack! Auch wenn das erste drittel eher langsam angelaufen ist, so hat mich der Rest umso mehr mitgerissen. Ich bin auf alle Fälle extrem hyped für den 2. Teil 🩵

Habe das Buch förmlich verschlungen und das letzte Drittel war definitiv eine kleine Achterbahnfahrt. Zwischendrin hat es mich etwas gestört, dass vieles im Dunkeln und bewusst ominös blieb, aber nach dem Ende kann ich vollkommen nachvollziehen wieso die Autorin sich für den Schritt entschieden hat. Da waren so viele Drehungen und Wendungen drin, die ich definitiv nicht habe kommen sehen und die scheinbar simple Prämisse des Buches letztendlich vollkommen verdrehen - zum Positiven. Freue mich sehr, sehr auf Band 2!

Dark Rise entspricht eigentlich nicht meinem Typischen Lesegeschmack und doch hat es mich total überzeugt. Ich habe das Buch zuerst nur einer Auslage im Bookshop gesehen, und irgendwie hat mich das Buch direkt angezogen, sodass ich den Klappen Text lesen musste. Normalerweise hätte ich Fantasy Bücher durchgelesen und weg gelegt doch das hat mein Interesse geweckt sodass ich ohne zu zögern das Buch gekauft habe. Ich habe mitgefiebert, und regelrecht das Buch verschlungen. Von den armen Jungen der seine Mutter verloren hatte und mit harter Arbeit leben musste, über die Zeit in der Halle bishin in das Gasthauszimmer. Ich habe es geliebt immer mehr zu erfahren und ich habe oft mitbekommen wie es in meinem Kopf „klick“ gemacht hat und sich alles immer mehr zu einem Ganzen verbindet hat. Das Buch ist sehr gut durchdacht und sehr logisch. Aber auch extrem emotional und rational. Ich habe die Charaktere sehr gut nachempfinden können und vor allem Will’s Vergangenheit hat mich sehr bewegt. Am interessantesten fand ich Will’s Gedankengänge die sich von den der anderen irgendwie abgehoben haben, da sie mir viel aufmerksamer und auch sehr bedacht rüber kamen. Ich kann dieses Buch nur empfehlen🥰. ( lag allen in meinem Umfeld damit in den Ohren)

Worum geht es? Es geht um eine längst vergessene Geschichte die von Dunkelheit geprägt ist und es reicht nur ein Stern der die Dunkelheit bekämpft. Was für eine episches Fantasiestory, die mich richtig berührt und gefesselt hat. Es geht hier um Will und wie er plötzlich in eine alte Welt kommt. Das Abenteuer spielt in London, in einem alten London. Dies ist der Auftakt einer Trilogie und hat mich begeistern können. Fazit, Cover, Schreibstil und Inhalt Ich finde das Cover ist wunderschön und farblich so perfekt gestaltet, es zeigt Will und der Comicstil ist richtig gut. Der Schreibstil ist echt angenehm zu lesen und ich war direkt in der Geschichte drin. Es ging hier häufig Schlag auf Schlag, die Wendungen haben mich auch echt in Atem gehalten. Es hier vorallem um einen alten Krieg und wie er verhindern werden kann. Aber es geht im alten London auch um Freundschaft und Güte, ich mag echt alles an der Story und es kommt der zweite Teil raus. Das Ende war richtig gut aber auch so ein Cliffhanger, dass ich froh bin bald weiterlesen zu können. Ich kann euch das Buch nur ans Herz legen, es ist spannend und voller Gefahren, aber auch voller Lichtblicke und Gefühl. Ich danke dem Lyx Verlag für das Rezi Exemplar welches meine Meinung nicht beeinflusst hat.

Ufff, durch das Buch musste ich mich quälen. Seitenlange Beschreibungen und ständiges Wiederholen von Dingen die wir bereits wussten, sodass ich oft ganze Absätze übersprungen habe. Die Liebesgeschichte war ein Witz und so abgeklatscht, dass ich Lachen musste. Die Verlobte war ein absolut stumpfer, nichtssagende Charakter. Ich weiß nichts über sie, außer das sie hübsch ist. Wahrscheinlich weil es ständig wiederholt wurde, anstatt ihr irgendeine andere, interessante Eigenschaft zu geben. Violet, die in einem Raum von ihrer Familie gefangen gehalten wird, der extra für sie gebaut wurde. Etwas das offensichtlich jahrelang geplant wurde, nur um dann nach 2 Seiten von ihrer Stiefmutter freigelassen zu werden. What? Aber keine Sorge, sie wird gleich wieder von den Guten gefangen genommen, in ein Verließ das seit Jahrhunderten auf sie wartete... Nur um dann wieder freigelassen zu werden. Meine Güte. Es gab einige interessante Konzepte in dem Buch, die aber leider einfach nicht landeten. Violet und vor allem James waren interessant. Der plottwist am Ende hat schließlich für die 3 Sterne gesorgt, ansonsten wären es nur 2 gewesen.

… und die Frage wer man ist und wer man sein will. Was macht einen gut, was macht einen schlecht? C.S.Pacat hat hier ein ganz faszinierendes Buch geschrieben und gewisse Klischees aufgehoben und neu interpretiert und ist ihnen doch irgendwie treu geblieben. Dark Rise hat mich fasziniert und überrascht, aber es vor allem spannend. Trotz einem fast schon märchenhaft, ruhigem Erzählstil war es nie langweilig. Und mitunter auch richtig rasant. Hat Spaß gemacht und ließ sich wirklich sehr schnell lesen und ich bin gespannt, wie es mit Will, James, Cyprian, Violet und Elizabeth weiter geht, denn eines kann ich definitiv nicht sagen: wohin die Reise geht und wie das endet. Und ich liebe die LGBTQ-Slow Burn Romance!

Puh, ich weiß noch gar nicht wirklich, was ich über die Geschichte sagen soll. Das erste Wort, das mir allerdings einfällt, ist: verwirrend. Und das gar nicht im schlechten Sinne, aber es passiert einfach sehr vielen Leuten sehr viel Unterschiedliches, sodass man wirklich genau zuhören muss, um nicht den Anschluss zu verpassen. Ich hatte etwas ganz anderes erwartet, bin aber dennoch zufrieden und das trotz wenig Lovestory.

I liked the characters, James of course being my favourite but world building was just not for me. It felt artificial at best and boring at most of the time. I really didn’t like how everyone seemingly forgot about any of the magic that once ruled the world but somehow all of the characters were connected to it. Probably won’t be reading the sequel.

The first half of the book was painfully slow…That is why I'd rather put a 3.9 star rating to this book but I can’t do that here. I know why it was slow, it was because of the world building and the preparation to understand the world before we get to the real plot but I almost dnf'd it! Buuut the other half of the book straight up convinced me. We finally had the characters there and I cared for them. That half was full of action, emotion and character. The plot twist was amazing and I just know the next book will hurt me!

I think I'm a little bit in love. Will and James have me in their spell so much .... I could probably read a package insert with them and love it. :'D I think the story's basic idea is great, even if I was strongly reminded of Narnia and King Arthur in between. But then some things went too fast for me, just seemed thrown in and I as a reader sat in front of the book and was like "Huh?". It was almost as if unfinished scenes had been jumbled together, leaving me confused - it just went too quickly. (Some things were just explained in great detail and then it's just extremely noticeable when other things that are actually important are run through so quickly). The writing style didn't quite convince me either, it was often too abrupt and had too many repetitions of words ... but the characters? The characters? Hah, I love just about all of them! (Sorry Katherine ... you're not one of them, unfortunately, and I'm glad I don't have to keep caring about you → that was just too much to handle and again, too fast and too much and too "out of nowhere.") I'm so looking forward to book two because the ending of the first one was just .... " Throwing the book across the flat" .... FOR F*CKS SAKE! That was so good and so intense and just grandiose

This book really was an interesting read but it took a while until I really got into it (up until page 300 it was just 3 stars for me). The beginning was a bit confusing at first, being thrown into new situations, getting to know the many characters, trying to understand what is going on. The first 100 pages were a long build-up to learn more about the world. It got more interesting once the stewards were really introduced but even then not that much happened. At around page 300 was when the suspense really kicked in and the more typical plot began to crumble, evolving into something different near the end when all the plottwists came out and I was positively shocked. There was that well planned out writing that I loved so much in the "Captive Prince" trilogy. Since that is my favorite book series my hopes for this book might have been too high but the end gave me a glimpse of what to await and I hope it will fulfill that promise in the next volume. I also need to talk about the characters cause they were just great! I especially loved Violet. She is strong and brave and a great friend. James was also really interesting. I wish he appeared more because every scene he was in was exciting, his conversations with Will were thrilling. Cause one thing I would critique are the character interactions. They were a bit too serious for me at times, I missed a bit of humor or more idk witty conversations. It is a darker story but that doesn't mean you can't joke about things 👀 I think the only line that made me laugh was "bad kitty" 😂 I hope we get more of that in the next volume. I am sure we will get more of James at least, so I am excited. The end was really great and left me with a gasp.

Dark Rise war ein Buch das mich super gereizt hat, gleichzeitig aber auch skeptisch gemacht hat. Leider muss ich zugeben, dass ich es nach 150 Seiten abgebrochen habe. Zu aller erst muss ich sagen, dass ich das Cover toll finde und die Idee mich angezogen hat. Will als Protagonist war mir sehr sympathisch, weil er nicht aufgegeben hat und aufrichtig ist und loyal. Es gab sehr spannende und coole Szenen und dennoch hat es mich irgendwie abgehängt... Ich habe es wirklich versucht, aber ich habe absolut kein Zugang bekommen zu Will, James oder den anderen. Z Einiges war etwas langatmig erzählt, was nicht schlimm war. Ich habe mich hier auf eine komplexe Geschichte eingestellt, da besucht man erstmal Infos. Aber es wurde doch mit einigen Namen geworfen, womit ich an sich kein Problem habe (man sehe zb Cresent City) aber das ganze wird einfach erschwert weil es oft Sichtwechsel gibt. Will, einem Mädchen, einer Frau und James und vielleicht wäre ja noch eine dazu gekommen. Das Ganze war immer unangekündigt. Also musste ich mich einige Male erst mal einlesen und verstehen das es jemand anders ist. Grade zu Beginn gern mal jemand den man nicht kennt und nicht einordnen kann. Und dieser Orden zu Dem Will kommt ist auch sehr nun anstrengend für mich gewesen. Faktisch hats mich einfach nicht gepackt sondern ich war mehr außen vor. Ich bin so sicher das diese Geschichte vielen von euch dennoch gefallen wird, gar keine Frage. Aber meins wird es nicht sein.

Meh. I did enjoy Dark Rise overall, thanks to the last 100 pages and James' character. However: A lot of information was repetitive and useless. (Yes, we know by now that Matthew is "your mother's old servant"! Honestly, that must have been mentioned 10 times for an irrelevant side character with half a page of screen time!) Expositions were repeated and repeated and repeated. Some descriptions of locations/placements confused me as they were not detailed enough. I felt nothing at all for most of the characters, relationships and deaths. So they've been training together for 3 months and have built a strong friendship? Yeah well, would have been nice to witness and not just be told about it afterwards. The last few chapters saved the book for me and made me still want to read the next one, hopefully the groundwork laid here will pay off.

This ending blew my mind away. In a way that I don't know who to feel deeply sorry for (this review contains heavy spoilers, cause I use it to clear my thoughts) I'm so sorry for Will and then again I'm not because he said nothing to James. And James is so... So different at the end and kind of hopeful. And then when I think about what happens, when he learns... Ohhhh this will be so tragic! Same with Violet (but a little less dramatic) and Elizabeth and the remaining Stewards... I really want to hug will cause he kind of does not deserve this burden and then again I want to hug everyone else too, cause everything webt as the Dark King planned. Let's just all hug and be happy but I'm afraid that's impossible. Despite that the book was very different from what I expected it to be but in a nice way. And I want to read the second book. I need to find out what happens as conclusion right now. How they will all react. I don't know what could happen to built up a whole trilogy? out of this but with cutting off at that point hat at least potential for future conflicts. I still just want everyone to be happy and friends. I hope for happy endings but after this one, I'd be not surprised if my heart would end up shred into pieces. I'd still be enjoying it for every page (I hope)
