mochte nicht dass der pov von einem 15yo war. obwohl es leicht zu lesen und verstehen war, hat mich die sprache und der schreibstyle aufgeregt. finde obwohl das thema ernst ist war das buch sehr oberflächlich und überhaupt nicht deep, glaube gerade dadurch dass sich jeff die ganze zeit über alles lustig gemacht hat, haben die themen total an ernsthaftigkeit verloren. die charaktere haben meiner meinung nach keine tiefe, und eigentlich macht jeff die ganze zeit nur witze über mental health und das war’s. fand auch dass mit dem thema Ranking total unpassend umgegangen wurde.

eigentlich war das buch okay. die kapitel waren kurz und innerhalb von 2 tagen war ich durch. große kritik habe ich jedoch daran wie die szenen zwischen jeff und rankin aufgearbeitet wurden. es wurde nie explizit ausgesprochen, dass jeff von rankin sexuell missbraucht wurde. es gab zwar gedanken von jeff darüber, dass er ja nicht direkt nein gesagt hätte und, dass rankin ihn zu nichts so wirklich gezwungen hat, was zeigt, dass jeff selbst schon darüber nachdenkt ob das okay war was rankin gemacht hat. aber selbst als jeff‘s therapeut von der einen nacht erfährt wird rankin zwar zu einer anderen klinik gebracht, jedoch wird kein wort darüber verloren, dass rankin all das ohne konsens von jeff gemacht hat. eine andere sache ist, dass nachdem sadie gestorben ist es vielleicht max. eine bis anderthalb seiten gab wo jeff darüber geredet hat. es schien so als hätte er sie wirklich gemocht und dafür wurde sadies selbstmord viel zu wenig thematisiert.

ich habe dieses buch in einer zeit gelesen wo es mir garnicht gut ging, vlt nicht die beste idee aber dennoch konnte ich nicht aufhören zu lesen und tatsächlich sind mir auch tränen geflossen. ich bin sowieso jemand der nah am wasser gebaut ist aber ein buch was mich zum weinen bringt ist wirklich… wow

This book definitely was something else. The sarcasm uplighted the darker but important topics you are confronted with while reading. Interesting to read since most topics aren‘t talked about enough. The structure with the days were kind of like a diary and fitting for the book. Not for everyone though. Read the trigger warnings for sure.

Als ich das Buch angefangen habe, hab ich passend zum Titel erwartet das ich Schwierigkeiten haben werde es zu lesen. Im Endeffekt lies es sich so einfach lesen wie schon lange kein Buch mehr. Und das obwohl es um Selbstmord ging. Ich habe auch erwartet das es viel um den Selbstmord an sich gehen wird, aber wir finden Jeff am Anfang des Buches in einer Selbsthilfeklinik nachdem er den Selbstmord überlebt hat. Wir durchleben mit ihm 45 Tage, in denen er sich erst weigert zu erzählen warum er versucht hat sich das Leben zu nehmen und was in seinem Kopf los ist. Erst viel später erfahren auch wir als Leser was passiert ist. Es gab eine Menge Sachen die ich persönlich nicht hab kommen sehen, die auch in der Klinik passiert sind. Für den Titel, ist es keine wirklich harte Lektüre. Es hat paradoxer Weise Spaß gemacht das Buch zu lesen - Jeff hat großen Humor.

While the title might make you think that this book will be sad, it's not. The dry humor of fifteen year old Jeff is gold. It leaves a big cliff hanger on the end though. It makes me wish to keep following his story just a little bit longer, maybe till his therapy sessions with good old Cat Poop end. I especially liked that it was relatively fast paced, made me finish it in barely two days, and that it was a kind of mix between a diary entry, his thoughts and recounting of things and dialogues each day.

This story follows a teenage boy named Jeff who’s in a psychiatric ward in the hospital after he tried to kill himself. In the beginning he constantly denies that he is crazy and insists he doesn’t belong there with the other kids. He believes he was put there by mistake because he only tried to kill himself because he “felt like it” at the moment. The other characters are described through Jeffs eyes and as Jeff accepts his situation more and more the other characters appear more human and faceted than in previous chapters . He also stops distancing himself from them by calling them crazy and seems to be empathizing and connecting to the other kids more. In the end he even starts to open up to his psychiatrist and he finally gets better. I think the story is very well written because one can tell that Jeff is trying to avoid his feelings and having to think about himself all too much. He constantly deflects and also mentions a couple of times how he didn’t know how he was feeling in certain moments. He seems to be very much in denial and the reader can tell Jeff is hiding something. After his secret is revealed Jeffs way of writing changes and it is obvious that he has come to terms with himself. In the book what Jeff reveals (I don’t want to spoil it so I won’t tell what it is) and the problems he faces because of that are handled incredibly well and I thing that people who struggle with similar things can really be helped with this book. Or at least they can feel understood and seen. I took half a star off because Jeffs suicide attempt was described rather detailed and I was kind of not ready for that. Although that is definitely my fault because a scene like that can be expected in a book titled “Suicide Notes”.

This book was very interesting but also confusing. At the beginning, I didn’t really understand what was going on, but I think that was kind of the idea of the author because as a reader, you kind of grow into the book and evolve together with the main character. So, the confusing part at the beginning, really fits the storyline and the characters development. The book was written in a pretty simple language. Because of that it was easier to read it as person whose first language isn’t English. ______________ Spoiler ______________ I really liked the main character, Jeff. I could refer to some of his opinions and character traits. And I really liked how he developed throughout the story: that he was very closed up at the beginning and then opened to more and more people. I also really really liked Sadie, who was just a really lovely character, and I was absolutely devastated when she abruptly killed herself in one of the last chapters. I really wasn’t prepared for these emotions because I really grew to love her and for me, she was one of the most important characters in this book. I also think that she was an important role in Jeff’s development because she was the first one who he opened up to. All the other side characters warrant so important to me because they kind of switched through and just had a little impact of the story. Except for Rankin because he did this sexual interaction with Jeff (however you want to call that) let Jeff to think about him possibly being gay. Which also was a big and important point in his self acceptance which he begins to reach at the end of the book. The whole problem with his best friend Allie was kind of confusing for me at the beginning. But at the end, you can understand why she broke up the contact because she probably thought that Jeff “betrayed” her. But I really really do hope that they get back together as best friends because their friendship just so lovely to me and I think she could be also a very important supportive person for Jeff. And the last character I think it’s worth mentioning is Jeff sister Amanda, whom I really like. She doesn’t really has that much “ screen time” but I still think that she also is an important support character for himself. And she also reminded me of my little sister a little bit which led to me liking her a lot more. In summary, I really love this book. I could understand many of the conflicts between people and conflicts which the people had with themselves. That was one big pint why I just couldn’t put that book out of my hand. But also, that the characters were written so amazingly that you could easily relate to their problems and thinking, which amazed me too.

Der 15-Jährige Jeff wacht an Neujahr plötzlich in der Psychatrie eines Krankenhaus auf. Die anderen Kinder dort sind eindeutig verrückt, aber für ihn gibt es keinen Grund warum er dort sein sollte. Das einzig komische: Aus irgend einem Grund hat er Bandagen um seine Handgelenke … Und so stellt sich langsam heraus, dass er vielleicht doch gar nicht so anders ist wie die anderen Kinder … Seit langem war dies das erste Buch, von dem ich vorher nie gehört und es ausschließlich aufgrund von Titel und Klappentext gekauft habe. Am Anfang habe ich noch gedacht , das war ein großer Fehler. Der Hauptcharakter Jeff, aus dessen Perspektive die Geschichte erzählt wird, ist schlicht und ergreifen unausstehlich. Doch nachdem die Geschichte und die Charaktere erst einmal etabliert sind, werden langsam neue Dimensionen zu Jeffs Charakter hinzugefügt und so wird er letztlich zu jemandem der einem ans Herz wächst und für den man rootet. Was mir jedoch oft quer aufstieß waren die Stereotype rund um psychologische Erkrankungen. Manche Charaktere haben nicht die Tiefe bekommen, die es benötigt um eine solche Erkrankung ordentlich darzustellen und so werden Stereotype rund um mentale Gesundheit leider weiter verfestigt. Nehmt diese Kritik mit ein bisschen Vorsicht, letztlich bin ich kein Psychologe. Insgesamt ist dies keine Geschichte, die mir auf ewig in Erinnerung bleiben wird, aber dennoch eine spannende Reise durch die Erfahrungen anderer Menschen.

Kann ich bitte eine Verlängerung haben?? Das Buch hat mich absolut gecatcht von der ersten Seite an, die Charaktere sind gut ausgearbeitet und die Storyline ist nicht vorhersehbar und bringt viele Überraschungen mit sich. Außerdem habe ich mich während dem Lesen einfach mal verstanden gefühlt und jede Emotion von Jeff bestens nachempfinden können :).

Thematik und Setting haben mir wirklich gut gefallen. Auch der Aufbau des Buches mit den jeweiligen Tagen war wirklich passend und angenehm. Für meinen Geschmack hätte es noch etwas mehr in die Tiefe gehen können und entsprechend etwas länger sein. So hatte es aber auch seinen Charme und ist definitiv lesenswert!

At first I was annoyed with Jeff because he thought he was better than everyone else, but I didn't know then how much he was repressing his own problems and he changes a lot after time. The book affected me emotionally, particularly because I can relate to a lot of it. The thing that really affected me the most was Sadie... I also think it's good that it's not a book where everyone celebrates being gay and being accepted straight away, because that often doesn't reflect reality. I was a bit disappointed by the book at the end though. I personally find open endings difficult. I would have liked to know what it was like for Jeff to come home, go back to school, meet Allie and Bruken and and how his life continues to be. I would still highly recommend the book if you like darker books with difficult subject matter, but which make you feel very safe at the same time!

Sehr gelungenes Buch. Allerdings meinem empfinden nach etwas oberflächlich. Ich liebe es wenn ich mich der Person nah fühle. In diesem Buch hatte ich leider nicht das Gefühl. Trotzdem ein sehr wichtiges Thema welches thematisiert wird, worüber noch mehr gesprochen werden sollte. (1/60)

Ich bin ehrlich überrascht davon, wie sehr mir dieses Buch gefallen hat. Ich war mir nicht sicher, ob ich das Buch wirklich lesen will, weil es mich in einigen Punkten triggern würde, aber ich habe mich dem gestellt. TW: Selbstverletzung und Suizidgedanken Ansonsten ein lustiges Buch, mit frechem und lustigen mmc. In dem Buch wurde viel mit Sarkasmus und Ironie gearbeitet, um dem Thema das Gewicht zu nehmen und das hat meiner Meinung nach richtig gut funktioniert.

3,5* Ich mochte das Buch von Seite Eins wirklich sehr gerne, der Schreibstil war sehr einfach gehalten, so dass vermutlich jeder dieses Buch in Englisch lesen könnte. "Suicide Notes" hat definitiv von seinen starken Charakteren gelebt, vor allem Jeff war ein einzigartiger Charakter, den man lange nicht vergessen wird. Auch wenn die Themen sehr düster dargestellt worden sind, empfinde ich es als sehr realistisch und auch authentisch, weil Jugendliche in einer Psychiatrischen Anstalt, werden nicht den besten und gesündesten Mindest haben und genau das hat der Autor unglaublich gut in diesen Buch eingefangen . Die Entwicklung die Jeff von Beginn bis zum Ende gemacht hat, war unglaublich und vor hat einen ein warmes Gefühl hinterlassen. Der Humor von Jeff war auch einfach nur klasse, ich musste mehrmals laut auflachen, weil das Buch genau meinen schwarzen Humor getroffen hat. Teilweise lebt das Buch auch von diesen dunklen, zynischen Humor und wenn man damit Probleme hat, sollte man das Buch vielleicht nicht lesen. Ich finde es unglaublich schade, dass man nicht erfährt wie es mit Jeff weiter geht und dass das Buch mit dem Ende des Aufenthalt endet. Ich habe so viele offene Fragen und hätte diese so gerne beantwortet bekommen. Obwohl mir das Buch teilweise sehr unter die Haut gegangen ist, hätte ich mir gewünscht man hätte bei Sadie und den anderen Patienten mehr erfahren. Natürlich ist es auf diese Art und Weise realistischer, da Jeff keinen Zugriff auf Ihre Akten und Gespräche hat,trotzdem wäre es unheimlich interessant gewesen, da mehr zu erfahren. Letztendlich kann ich das Buch jedem nur ans Herz legen, der Bücher in der Art von "Tote Mädchen lügen nicht" suchen.

I really liked Suicide Notes. Even though it was a difficult topic it was very enjoyable. There are some things that I found almost too much , for example when Rankin comes into Jeff's room without his permission and jerks him off or when he pushes Jeff down in the shower or when he comes into Jeff's room another night (AGAIN without permission), has Jeff's underweard pulled down and tries to have sex with him. Thankfully someone interrupted. I wanted a sweet love story for Jeff but oh well.. There's not much to say about the writing but the story unfolded in a steady pace which I didn't find too slow. It was just right. While Suicide Notes covers a depressing topic it was very funny at times!
