The Art of Starving is one of those rare books that grabs you by the heart and doesnโt let go. I just finished reading it, and I can honestly say it was an emotional rollercoaster in the best and most painful way possible. Following Matt on his journey - through hunger, grief, anger, love, self-discovery and self-destruction...it was both harrowing and beautiful. His voice is raw and sharp, full of pain and longing, but also filled with a quiet, fierce hope that slowly emerges over the course of the novel. The way Sam J. Miller weaves queerness, mental health, magical realism, and deep emotional truths together is truly masterful. And the ending? It absolutely broke me...and yet, somehow, it left me whole. Itโs one of those rare conclusions that is both devastating and healing at the same time. I closed the book feeling shattered, yet strangely at peace. It was fantastic - no other word fits better. If you're looking for a book that is powerful, deeply human, and unlike anything you've read before, The Art of Starving is it.
