A few pages later and - swoon swoon - Howls got me around his finger lol Dieser Dude ist ja mal so eine Dramaqueen 👸🏼👑 And I love everything about it 😂 Die Charaktere sind auch einfach alle so herzlich und diese Welt! So nice und so magical and whimsical and i don’t knooooow. Finde das Buch sogar deutlich besser als den Film. Gebt mir mehr MMCs die wie Howl sind! (No rly, pls drop recommendations) You should read it. Like, for real.

Das Buch ist einfach nur extrem schön - was ich tbh am meisten mochte ist wie Howl sich IMMER um Sophie gekümmert hat und sich langsam verliebt hat - sie das aber erst am Ende des Buches 'realisiert' man könnte sagen das Howl in diesem Buch extrem viele Red flags hat was ich aber tatsächlich abstreiten würde - er hat nur eine sehr andere Art 'Liebe/Zuneigung' auszudrücken weswegen er auch so herzlos rüberkommt. Aber wer denn Film mochte muss das Buch lesen. 6,49€ bei Thalia

Als großer Manga- und Animefan hat man Das wandelnde Schloss natürlich gesehen und sich in Howl, Sophie und eventuell auch in Calcifer verliebt 🤭💕 Wie bereits schon jemand anderes geschrieben hat bin auch ich sehr glücklich, dass Calcifer viel süßer im Film aussieht, als er im Buch beschrieben wurde, dennoch ist das Buch sehr charmant und gibt allem ein bisschen mehr Tiefe und Backstory zu Sophie und ebenfalls Howl. Howl ist einfach so anziehend - obwohl er so distanziert ist und als Frauenheld bzw. Frauenfresser gefürchtet wird. Man muss ihn einfach lieben. Sophie hingegen ist so reizend, charakterstark und man hofft einfach, dass der Fluch von ihr wieder genommen wird. 🙏 Wer den Film also schon mochte, sollte das Buch unbedingt lesen! 🥰

First: I haven‘t watched the movie yet, so I can‘t say anything about how similar they may be or if the book explains any open questions… (dw I am going to watch the move at one point) So with that out of the way; I have to say I really enjoyed this book! It was really sweet and also has a really interesting world building! I liked Sophie and Howls Story and how they got together. I think I am going to read the other books in this series at some point, even though Howl and Sophie will only be side characters, but the writing was really enjoyable and the book perfectly cozy and relaxing!

This was so much fun to read! Saw the Ghibli film first and then found it at my book shop and just had to get it. And it did not disappoint. I absolutely love both the book and the movie. It's fast-paced, full of banter, strong relationships between the characters, some surprising turns (and some predictable, but still enjoyed their executions - though I completely missed Calcifer's hints - something to look forward to in a re-read) and leaves me completely happy and content as rarely a book does. If you love magic, strong-willed and fallible characters, fast-paced stories and a pinch of whimsy sprinkled onto everything, then I can only recommend! 

Ganz ganz wildes Buch. Sehr einzigartig & wenn man den Studio Ghibli Film liebt, wird man dieses Buch noch mehr lieben! Ich fand den Film immer ein bisschen verwirrend, ich hab nie wirklich kapiert, was da eigentlich alles passiert, mochte ihn aber trotzdem, weil er einen gewissen Charme an sich hat. Das Buch hatte mindestens genau so viel Charme, wie der Film, aber man kann meiner Meinung nach viel mehr mit den Charakteren mitfühlen und kann deren Handlungen besser nachvollziehen. Das einzige, was ein bisschen Schade ist, ist das gerushte Ende. Es baut sich gemütlich alles über 210 Seiten auf und aufeinmal ist alles auf einen Schlag vorbei. Es fühlt sich sehr chaotisch an, aber ansonsten war das Buch definitiv eine 5/5

I enjoy anime movies (and anime) a lot, so I really wanted to read the book for Howl's Moving castle. The plot begins similar: Sophie is the eldest daughter of a hatter. The tradition of her world dictates that she will not find fortune, so she is resigned to a boring life as his successor, even after her father dies and her sisters leave. Then, one day, the Witch of the Waste shows up at her shop and curses her. Suddenly, Sophie is in the body of an old woman and she has no other choice than to leave herself. She finds the moving castle of the wicked wizard Howl and, since she isn't a young endangered girl anymore, decides she might as well stay. I really liked the story and the unique characters! There were so many different plot arcs that were resolved nicely in the end. The movie adapts many of its aspects, but then veers off in a completely different direction. I think I like both versions of the story! One issue I do have with the book is the ending. It feels a bit too short. While I liked the fact that the romance wasn't very present in the story, the way it appears on the last page feels too sudden. It wasn't too bad, though. (I kind of knew what I was getting into, after all.) I kind of want to read the rest of the series now, too! Would recommend it to fans of the movie, or generally anyone who wants to read a bit older fantasy.

I was kind of surprised, when I noticed that the anime is based on a book and was really eager to read it. I always thought the story of the movie is a bit weird and some things were a bit rough and made no sense at all. Now that I know the book, I can clearly say that are just variations of the movie to the book, no idea why they changed that in the first place. The book is lovely written, the characters are interesting and Howl is always good for a surprise. The main villain keeps being the Witch from the Waste and doesn't shift during the story. It is funny how the movie uses stuff from the book to alter the story like the mirror room or the gender of Suliman.

It was really awesome to read this book after just knowing the movie and I think we had a different start and a different perspective throughout the whole book. I feel like in the movie, there wasn’t nearly as much topic that was handled as in the book. Now I want to rewatch the movie and compare, because thats what i did the most while reading this.

- 4.5 ⭐ I've just finished Howl's Moving Castle and want to read it again. I want to analyse everything and to highlight the clues which were scattered throughout the pages. I love how it felt like entering a fairytale. I really liked the overall atmosphere and magic aspect of the story. I've got to confess, I've seen the movie first, but it confused the hell out of me, so I had to pick up the novel immediately! Each character was beautifully written and had distinctive characteristics. I also enjoyed the depiction of the daily life of the main characters, even though they were some scenes which seemed boring to me. You have to pay attention while reading this to keep up with the plot and to understand the big reveal at the end. I am not quite satisfied with the resolution since I feel like there was a lot of build-up only for the conflict to be resolved in three pages. I won't read the next installment in the series since I feel like the story I wanted to read is finished now.

Ich habe vor Ewigkeiten mal den Film zu Howl's Moving Castle gesehen allerdings kann ich mich kaum mehr daran erinnern und ich glaube ich wusste damals auch gar nicht dass der Film auf einem Buch basiert. Ich denke jedoch es war fast ein Vorteil, dass ich mich kaum an den Film erinnern konnte denn so bin ich ziemlich ohne Erwartungen an das Buch heran gegangen und ich wurde richtig positive Überrascht. Die Geschichte von Sophie beginnt wie ein Märchen, sie lebt in einer Welt in der sie als älteste von drei Schwestern nicht für ein grosses Schicksal bestimmt ist und hat sich somit eigentlich damit zurecht gefunden im Hutladen ihrer Familie zu arbeiten. Als Sophie jedoch eines Tages verflucht wird beginnt für sie ein Abenteuer in dem sie einiges dass sie glaubt zu Wissen hinterfragen muss. Mir hat die ganze märchenhafte Welt direkt super gefallen und Sophie war auch sofort eine sympathische Protagonistin, wobei mir aber besonders ihre Entwicklung nachdem sie verflucht und in eine alte Frau verwandelt wurde richtig gut gefallen hat. Doch auch die anderen Figuren wie der Zauberer Howl mit seiner total übertriebenen Art oder der Feuerdämon Calcifer sind mir im Verlauf der Geschichte richtig ans Herz gewachsen. All die Interaktionen zwischen diesen verschiedenen Figuren waren echt gelungen. Es gibt in der Geschichte eine richtig tolle Mischung aus Spannung und Humor. Es gibt viele richtig lustige, aber auch ernste und emotionale Momente und besonders gegen Ende wurde die Geschichte auch richtig spannend und mir hat super gefallen wie sich am Ende alles zusammenfügt. Zudem gibt es auch richtig tolle kreative magische Elemente wie das wandelnde Schloss. Auch wenn ich es jetzt nicht mit dem Film vergleichen kann, kann ich definitiv sagen, dass das Buch absolut lesenswert ist. Die Geschichte ist süss, lustig und spannend und voller toller Figuren.
