Mit Georgia und ihren Freunden erlebt man, wie es sein kann seine eigene Identität zu finden. Alice Oseman gelingt es in diesem Roman einmal mehr vortrefflich die Welt aus der Sicht heranwachsender Teenager zu beschreiben. Mit ihrer Darstellung der Protagonisten fällt es dem Leser leicht sich in den Gefühlen und Gedanken der Charaktere ein zu fühlendes sich selbst wieder zu erkennen. Zudem leistet die Autorin wichtige Aufklärungsarbeit bezüglich der Sexualität und ihrer mannigfaltigen Ausprägungen. Oseman ist es hervorragend gelungen einen aromatischen und asexuellen Charakter zu zeichnen, der das ganze Irren und Wirren um die eigene Identität begreifbar macht. Die Beziehung zwischen Georgia und ihren Freunden wird immer wieder auf Proben gestellt, und dennoch ist so eine innige, vertraute Bindung zwischen ihnen, das sich der Leser bald auch zugehörig fühlt. Ein Roman mit Wohlfühlfaktor und der Hoffnung auf ein Leben mit unkomplizierter, unkonventioneller und nicht sexualisierter Liebe.

glad to see free domino's pizza at freshers fairs is a universal experience. this book also made me go through a lot and this is why this'll be rather short - i love that it's set at uni, I love Georgia and all her friends, even though Jason appeared a bit bland at first, before i really got to know him. i also wasn't the biggest fan of the dramatic climax at the end but it fits the story structure so i think that's just me. i didn't get as much into the story as I'd hoped and as i did with Radio Silence and I Was Born For This but that's ok, i think reading about Georgia and her experiences definitely made up for that.

Ein paar Worte... Loveless war eine wirklich herzerwärmende Geschichte, die mich von Anfang an begeistert hat. Die Charaktere waren authentisch, tiefgründig und vielfältig. Mir hat die Clique, die zusammen ihr erstes Jahr an der Uni erlebt, sehr gefallen. Ich habe mich gefühlt, als ob ich selbst Teil dieses Freundekreises bin. Der Schreibstil von Alice Oseman ist humorvoll und beindruckend. Dieses Buch wird mir noch lange im Gedächtnis bleiben. Von mir gibt es eine klare Leseempfehlung!

I am sorry to say this but I am a little ambivalent about “Loveless”. On the one hand it is an important book that covers a topic that is almost invisible in literature (and – let’s be honest – also in queer spaces) but on the other hand I just couldn’t bring myself to care about it as much I expected myself to. I think Georgias struggle with her sexuality and identity was portrayed quite well and her thoughts were relatable but I was at times a little annoyed by her. I don’t know if it’s my age (I am a biiiit older than our protagonist and her friends) or that my experience with the discovery my own asexuality was different from Georgia’s – for me it was way less “dramatic” – but sometimes I just wanted to shake her and tell her to stop obsessing about love and sex. At times it felt like those were the only two things on her mind. But yeah, I understand that this only reflects the expectations of our society for young(er) people and things like peer pressure. So, maybe it IS my age ;) Unfortunately, the rest of the book also didn’t really catch me. It’s not that I disliked the characters or the plot but I also didn’t enjoy them specifically. It was an easy and quick read that – sadly – won’t stay with me for long. Just to be clear: I’m not saying that “Loveless” is a bad book – actually it’s quite the opposite. This is a very, very important book. Asexuality and aromanticism get almost no representation in media so I am more than grateful that Alice Oseman tackled these topics. I imagine that a lot of people can relate to Georgia’s struggles (even if they’re not aroace but just “late bloomers”) and for a few of them this could be kind of an awakening/part of their self-discovery. I also appreciate that Alice Oseman also included the “well-meant remarks” aro and/or ace people do hear often from others: don’t worry, you will find the right one eventually; you just haven’t found the right person yet; it’s just a phase. They might think that these sentences are helpful but actually they do more damage than good – and invalidate the feelings of the questioning person. But it’s even more hurtful to have found your label and then being told you are not queer (enough). This is also addressed in “Loveless” when asexuality is called an “internet identity” by a student who was the president of the Pride Society. And it’s quite clear that he would prefer to keep everyone who identifies with one of the letters after LGBT out of the student society. And maybe even the ones who have claimed the B for themselves. It’s actually not that unusual that people who are not cis gays, cis lesbians or binary trans women/men are invalidated by exactly the same people who should be their safe haven. So, thank you, Alice Oseman, for writing this book. For making asexuality and aromanticism visible. For showing us that self-discovery can lead to self-acceptance and eventually to self-love.

Loveless hat mir sehr gut gefallen, auch als Hörbuch: Die Sprecherin klingt sehr angenehm und authentisch. Das Buch behandelt vor allem das Thema Asexualität/Aromantik, was Alice Oseman sehr gut umgesetzt hat. Es hat diese typische Oseman-Leichtigkeit, die man in allen ihren Romanen finden kann. Dazu quirlige Charaktere, ein intensives Setting und gut ausgearbeitete Beziehungen - ein Monatshighlight!

This book is the perfect example (and evidence, if needed) for how important *good* representation of marginalised groups in media is and always will be - how much it actually matters to those who are rarely or never given that privilege. I've been wanting to read Loveless since its release (and then four years passed, whoops), I already knew this book would not let me down but beyond my expectations, it really made me fall in love with it in its entirity. A story that resonated deeply with me, thanks to Oseman's very heart-warming, fun and enagaging writing and characters, a complete joy to read from start to finish; and a much needed empowerment for the aspec community (as well as our extended queer community).

Georgia is such a sweet character struggling to find her own identity. Loveless shows that it’s totally okay to be confused and not know what is right and wrong when it comes to your own feelings. I also just loved the friendship dynamics in the book. Rooney, Pip, Jason and Sunil just seem like genuinely nice people and I want to be friends with them! Would recommend this to anyone who wants a heartwarming story about finding the love you need to be happy!

5 ☆ ー (re-read May 2022) ー This book... This book actually left me speechless. Speechless to the point where I don't even know how to start this review. You know, seeing myself, an asexual and aromantic person, represented in media? And seeing myself represented like this? It feels incredible. It's a feeling I cannot put into words. Especially my aromantic identity has always been a struggle for me to accept about myself. Even to this day, I find it hard to accept the fact that I'll never fall in love, never have a romantic relationship, which is something I so desperately crave. And this is why this book means so much to me. Seeing the main character find her peace in her identity as aromantic, finding love in all forms around her, starting to accept herself... it gives me hope. It gives me a feeling that no other book has ever given me. I wish I could personally thank Alice Oseman for writing this book, and the universe for making me read it, because it feels like this book saved me. And I can imagine it is the same for many other aromantic individuals, too.

Das war eine ziemlich deftige Lektüre, weil ich mich enorm in Georgia wiederfand. Ihre Gedanken, Fragen, ihre Zweifel - kam mir alles so, so bekannt vor. Und erneut wünschte ich mir, solche Bücher hätte es schon in meiner Jugend gegeben. Oder auch Begriffe wie Asexualität, Pansexualität etc. Ehrlich, das hätte einiges einfacher gemacht. Oseman macht hier 1A Aufklärungsarbeit und baut sehr viele Vorurteile gegenüber aroace Personen ab. Schafft Akzeptanz und zeigt den Lesenden, dass, entgegen der gesellschaftlichen Meinung, ein Mensch auch als ace ein gutes und glückliches Leben führen kann. Die Handlung selbst ist ein kleines Wohlfühlbuch, das von Selbstfindung, Zerwürfnissen und der echten, aufrichtigen Liebe handelt. Liebe, das lernen wir, kommt in vielen verschiedenen Versionen daher, nicht nur in der heteronormativen Weise. Es gibt also viel zu erfahren und zu erleben in diesem Werk.

Georgia freut sich darauf mit ihren beiden besten Freunden nach der Schule an die Durham University zu gehen. Dort möchte sie all die Erfahrungen machen, von denen sie immer hört: Neue Freundschaften schließen und die erste Liebe finden, sowie in all den Liebesfilmen und Romanen. Dabei eröffnet sich für Georgia eine völlig neue und große Welt, in der sie sich schnell etwas verloren fühlt und sie glaubt, den Anschluss zu verlieren, deswegen ist sie froh, dass ihre Freunde da sind… Ich habe dieses Buch damals überall auf Instagram und in den sozialen Medien gesehen. Und dass dieses Buch einen großen Hype erfahren hat, ist glaube ich nichts Neues. Und genau das ist auch der Grund, warum ich mir dieses Buch gekauft habe. Ich hatte sehr große Hoffnungen und muss leider sagen, dass diese nicht wirklich erfüllt worden sind. Ich hatte zwischen den Beginn und dem Rest des Buches eine Pause gehabt, weil ich nicht ganz warm wurde mit der ganzen Geschichte. Fangen wir einmal am Anfang an: Das erste, was ich nicht wirklich gut fand, war, dass in diesem Buch so dargestellt wird, dass es ganz schlimm wäre, dass man mit 18 Jahren noch ungeküsst ist. Für mich vermittelt das einfach ein falsches Bild von Jugendlichen und setzt sie ein bisschen unter Druck, Erfahrungen sammeln zu ,,müssen‘‘, obwohl das überhaupt nicht Sinn der Sache ist. Jeder sollte Erfahrungen sammeln, vor allem egal in welchem Alter, wenn man sich dazu bereit fühlt. Mit Georgia musste ich erst einmal warm werden, ich hatte zu Beginn einfach keinen Zugang zu ihr gefunden. Nach einigen Seiten hatte sich das dann irgendwann gelegt und ich bin recht gut mit ihr klar gekommen. Ihre Gedankengänge und Gefühle wurden sehr gut dargestellt und man konnte sich richtig gut in sie hineinversetzen und auch verstehen, warum sie so fühlt. Und ich glaube, dass es ein wirklich schwerer Prozess ist und bewundere es, dass sie diesen durchgestanden hat. Besonders gut gefallen haben mir Georgias Freunde. Jason, Rooney, Sunil und Pip sind sehr lebendige Charaktere und ich habe sie ins Herz geschlossen. Ich hätte gerne viel mehr über die Charaktere gelesen, ich hoffe, wir erfahren bald noch mehr von ihnen. Auch gut gefallen hat mir der Einblick in das Thema Aro-Ace und man somit beim Lesen noch was dazulernen konnte. Es gibt viele verschiedene Arten und Formen der Liebe und es war schön, mehr darüber lesen zu können! Der Schreibstil von Alice Oseman war für mich nicht neu, da ich bereits 2 der Heartstopper Bände gelesen habe. Jedoch hat sie es geschafft, mich mit diesem Band überzeugen zu können. Ich mag ihre lockere und leichte Art zu schreiben und sie passt sich der Zielgruppe perfekt an. Auch der Lesefluss wird hierbei in keiner Weise gestört, sondern durch den tollen Schreibstil positiv unterstützt. ,,Loveless: Wann endlich beginnt meine Story?‘‘ ist ein Buch, von dem ich sehr hohe Erwartungen hatte, die leider nicht ganz erfüllt wurden. Mit Georgia hatte ich zu Beginn ein wenig Probleme, die sich aber schnell legten und die Nebencharaktere haben mir auch super gut gefallen. Nur weil ich nicht so ganz überzeugt war von dem Buch, möchte ich mich noch nicht ganz von der Autorin verabschieden. Ich bin ganz gespannt darauf, was mich in ihren anderen Büchern erwarten wird!

TikTok hatte definitiv nichts damit zu tun, dass ich dieses Buch gekauft habe. 😜 Sondern eher die Thematik. Ich habe bisher kaum Bücher über Asexualität und Aromantik gesehen und schon gar nicht gelesen. Ich bin gut doppelt so alt wie die Protagonisten im Buch und fand das Drama zwischen den Figuren aus diesem Grund vielleicht etwas nervig und vermeidbar, aber besonders mit Georgia konnte ich mich als introvertierte und ebenfalls im Ace Spektrum angesiedelte Person schon sehr stark identifizieren. Eine wirklich schöne Geschichte über andere Arten von Liebe! 🖤

Es dürfte uns mittlerweile allen klar sein, dass wir vor lauter romantischem Beziehungswahn unsere Freundschaften, die platonische Dimension der Liebe, nicht unter den Tisch fallen lassen sollten. Wie wichtig platonische Freundschaften sind, demonstriert (trotz des Titels) ganz eindringlich "Loveless". Am Extrembeispiel der Protagonistin Georgia, die sich im Laufe der Geschichte als Aro-Ace identifiziert (die also weder romantische noch sexuelle Anziehung gegenüber Personen jedweden Geschlechts verspürt) zeigt sich deutlich, dass maus auch ohne eine romantische Beziehung lieben und geliebt werden und somit ein total erfülltes Leben führen kann. Ich habe die italienische Version von "Loveless" gelesen und kann sie nur weiterempfehlen. Die Shakespeare-Passagen sind ein bisschen schwierig, ansonsten eignet sich die leicht verständliche Prosa aber gut für Sprachanfänger:innen. Die Übersetzung samt des im englischen Original inhärenten Witzes kam mir sehr gelungen vor.

Ich glaube, das ist ein wichtiges Buch für Jugendliche. Ist ja eh eine schwierige Zeit und wenn man dann noch das Gefühl hat, etwas tun zu müssen, weil es erwartet wird oder man nicht länger ausgegrenzt werden möchte, wird es nicht schlimmer. Loveless geht mit der Problematik aber sehr gut um und zeigt, dass es okay ist, zu warten und dass es sehr viele Wege abseits der Erwartungen gibt. Außerdem sind die Personen sehr sympathisch und man fühlt mit. Teilweise ist es etwas kitschig und vielleicht auch etwas übertrieben, aber es ist trotzdem sehr charmant Topfpflanzen für alle.

If I had this book when I was 18, i would have realised a lot of things much sooner. This is the representation we so much deserve. Somebody on TikTok once said something along the lines of „Figuring out that you don’t like something is so much harder than figuring out that you like something“ and this book shows in - my opinion- all the struggles you potentially face when you figure out that you’re aroace. The entire journey of the initial disbelief, then slow acceptance and heartbreaking rage, as well as the main character being rather introverted hit so close to home, that it was like reading my own story in a different color. My pan best friend read it too and felt like she was looking into my head. Absolute must-read if you are a aroace questioning person

Nachdem ich die Heartstopper Graphic Novels von Alice Oseman schon kannte und geliebt habe, war mir sofort klar, dass ich auch ihren Romanen eine Chance zu geben muss. Da mehrere Bloggerinnen meines Vertrauens Loveless sehr gelobt haben, habe ich mich dann entschieden, es als ersten der Romane zu lesen. Und es hat mir so gut gefallen. Alice Oseman schreibt einfach toll. Außerdem war es mein erstes Buch über eine asexuelle/aromantische Protagonistin. Die Protagonistin Georgia entdeckt ihre sexuelle Orientierung im Laufe des Buches erst und ich fand diesen Prozess super spannend.

I finished Loveless by Alice Oseman last night. If you or anyone you know wants to read a lovely and informative book about LGBTQIA+ characters then I highly recommend this book. The focus is geared more toward asexual and aromantic identities, but has multiple characters across the gender identity spectrum. 5 stars.

I loved reading the story. Georgia is a wonderful and complex character. Reading her journey through all the hardships and manoeuvring the discovery and acceptance of her sexuallity was a rolercoster of emotions. Additionally it is to say that all her friends, the old and the new ones she made along the way, were amazing as well and it was heartwarming to read how they got through their issues with their bond stronger than ever. Its inspiring. 🥺❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Selten mit nem Charakter und Buch so mit gefüht, wie mit Georgia und Loveless. Mega relatable und ihre Probleme und Gedanken sind so gut geschrieben. Schon nach den ersten paar Seiten hab ich so krass mitgefühlt Liebe und Beziehungen werden durch alle Charaktere so übel gut dargestellt und wie sie über Liebe denken is so vielfältigund toll Ich liebe die ganze Shakespeare-Soc, alle mega gut geschrieben und komplex, vor allem Rooney, wow Nicht in Worte zu fassen, wie das Buch is und was es mir getan hat <3

everything i wanted and more! ever since her first book came out in 2014, i've been following alice oseman on social media, i've been reading her novels, eagerly awaiting the next one, i remember when heartstopper was still the 'secret project'. and, well, now i can say that this is her best work yet!! i think you can tell right away that it's a very personal story. it must have been difficult and brave to write this book - but that's what makes it so good. it's so authentic and true and beautiful, while also funny and light. i really do want to say that it's perfect! of course i can't speak for anyone else but i feel like it's perfect for aro and/or ace readers to relate to, and also perfect for others to learn about those identities. and aside from that, of course it's also just a good story! there are many characters to find yourself in, and they all stole my heart! georgia, the narrator, of course, but i also loved her friends so much. i loved how shakespeare references and romcom tropes are woven into the story, all the banter and the sincere moments of platonic love, and how there are 430 pages and not one of them is unnecessary. and yeah well, in the end some silly stuff happens and this one 'secret' is kind of predictable, but that really wasn't the point. because everything about this book just works! i'm not the biggest ya reader any more but i'll always come back to alice oseman's books because they bring me so much joy. and i'm not getting too personal on goodreads but this one was the first of hers to make me cry. loveless has a special place in my heart now! the audiobook is also excellent & so much fun!!

I just finished the last book in the Alice Oseman universe and my mind can’t even comprehend that yet. This book is definetly, apart from Heartstopper my favorite Book of hers and I enjoyed every second I spent in this story even though it was quite a long time that it took me to read this book because I loved it so much I always told myself to stop after a few chapters . I think that Alice has a way to describe different sexuality’s in a so relatable way and it makes you understand the less known ones , like Asexuality in this book , a lot better. The characters in this book felt like a family to me and I really want to see this on the big screen someday. I hope there’ll be a lot more wonderful stories that Alice will write and I will devour every single one of them . „I had been so desperate for my idea of true love that I couldn’t even see it when it was right in front of my face.“ „I used to dream of a spellbinding, endless, forever romance. A beautiful story of meeting a person who could change your whole world. But now, I realised, friendship could be that too.“ „We took our bows as the audience cheered. This wouldn’t go down in university history. This wouldn’t be anything special to anyone else. People would forget about this, or just remember it as that kind of weird but interesting student play they saw one time. Nobody else in the universe would see this play. "Friendship can be just as intense, beautiful and endless as romance" Alice Oseman hat es (mal wieder) geschafft, ein eigentlich eher schweres Thema in eine leichte, wunderschöne Geschichte zu verwandeln. Als Georgia Warr mit ihren zwei besten Freunden an die Uni kommt lernt sie Rooney kennen. Rooney scheint die Anti-Georgia zu sein und ein komplett anderes Leben zu führen. Im Laufe des Buches muss Georgia wichtigen Fragen stellen und sich selbst kennenlernen. Das Buch hat mir insgesamt sehr gut gefallen. Loveless ist eine tolle Geschichte über Freundschaft und Alice Oseman gelingt es die Themen Asexualität und Aromantik mit viel Charm und tollen Charakteren zu verpacken. Wie in bisher jedem Buch von Alice Oseman habe ich mich in alle Charaktere verliebt. Selbst Nebencharaktere werden so lebhaft dargestellt, dass man das Gefühl hat, man würde sie persönlich kennen.

It feels like the only personality that Georgia has is her whole “I want to kiss someone bc otherwise it’s weird, tho I find it really disgusting; and I’ve never liked someone either, isn’t that really weird?”. I get that she’s trying to find out who she is and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just kinda boring to read through 400 pages, when the protagonist doesn’t have any other personality except for that. I could’ve as well read through forums about whether someone is asexual/aromantic, instead of going through the whole book – because personality-wise it would be the same. But it’s not just Georgia. Everyone is kinda a flat character and no one really stands out as a person, except for Pip. And I’m not counting that they love Shakespeare because everyone does in this book, therefore it’s not a special personality trait anymore. ~ Also, where can I get myself a Jason? He’s literally the only guy that doesn’t care for sex. Except Sunil, but then again he’s asexual, so I’m not counting that. Why can’t there be more guys out there, who are not asexual, but still wouldn’t care about their partner not being interested in sex? Huh, that’s why it’s fictional. ~ The ending was sweet and made me jealous, but other than that... idk. I guess it was a good book overall, but not really sth I would read again, as everything is just so flat. ~ Also, I’m kinda angry that Rooney realized she loved Georgia, while making out with Pip. Like, couldn’t it be after they finished, after the play? Or before they made out? Bc I literally feel so bad for pip. She should’ve been that special someone for Georgia, or even Jason. But no, it was Rooney. Like Pip said, Rooney is going to take Georgia away from her. And yes, you can have more than one best friend, but while Pip is just really panicking and worrying about where the f* Rooney has ran off to, Georgia & Rooney are just planning for their future, about how they’re going to grow old together... like, what the actual f? Are you kidding me? Why does Pip have to suffer like that? Rooney left her literally in the middle of a make out, they were both like half-naked, and she just left without saying anything... Georgia found her and their just fantasizing about their future together? I’m sorry, what now?

Mein achtes Buch der Autorin und ich war unglaublich gespannt darauf, da es 1. ein Alice oseman Buch ist und 2. eine aroace (aromatisch und asexuell) Repräsentation hat. Zuvor habe ich noch kein Buch gelesen in dem ein Protagonist ace oder aro war. Allerdings wollte ich unbedingt mehr darüber erfahren und war deshalb sehr gespannt auf das buch. Ich kann nicht sagen wie authentisch die Geschichte geschrieben wurde aber für mich als Leserin fühle sich die Geschichte von Georgia sehr authentisch und echt an. Es geht hier hauptsächlich um die Entwicklung der Protagonistin und ihre Suche nach sich selbst. Wer ist sie? Gleichzeitig starten ein neuer Lebensabschnitt für sie am College mit neuen Freunden und jede Menge Selbstfindung und Drama. Das drama zwischen den Freunden war für mich am Ende ein wenig too much, da ich die ein oder andere Situation als nicht soo schlimm empfunden habe. Mit der Protagonistin hatte ich teilweise meine Probleme. Ich empfand sie manchmal als anstrengend und habe mir öfter eine Pause von ihren Gedanken und Gefühlen gegeben und „das Buch zur Seite gelegt“. Ich habe das Buch als Hörbuch gehört und bin froh darüber, da ich sonst wahrscheinlich nicht so „schnell“ (für mich doch sehr langsam) durchgekommen wäre. Für mich ein gutes Buch mit vielen interessanten und spannenden Einblicken die ich geliebt habe. Für mich war das Buch besser als solitaire aber kam nicht an Heartstopper heran.
