Das war ... okay? Ich fand Arthurs Perspektive richtig toll. Wie er damit umgeht, sich im hohen Alter zu outen und dass es nie zu spät ist, sein Leben so zu leben, wie man möchte. Das war toll. Teddys Kapitel haben mich allerdings zunehmend aufgeregt. Ich habe seinen Crush auf Ben nicht verstanden, der Typ hat von der ersten Minute an mit roten Fahnen gewedelt. Shak als bester Freund hätte ein perfekter Charakter für mich werden können, wenn er mich mit seinem Gejammer nicht so unglaublich genervt hätte. Das Buch hätte mit 100 Seiten weniger und ohne unnötige Romance besser funktioniert. Oder mit einer guten Romance lol CW: Homophobie

so many twists and turns, especially in the last few chapters. i was constantly wondering whether i would get a happy end or not, but it kept me interested in the best way possible! also, at the very end there is a happy ending, even if i could not have guessed it throughout the book :)

3.5 I guess? I'm conflicted. The book was honestly a little forgettable so I don't know how to rate it. Look, am I just heartless or was this book not really that good? I've read a few reviews and many of them point out how Teddy is a nepo baby and all that. I can see where they're coming from but I disagree a little. Like yeah, he totally is one but it's clear that he resents the connection. His mum was worried about him, kept offering him a job at her workplace (which I think many parents would do if they had the chance to get their child a job) and he accepted. From day one though, he made it clear that he was uncomfortable only being "Elizabeth's son" and that he wanted to achieve things on his own. My real problem lies with Ben. What the heck, dude? Like, right from the start he made these weird statements that were so mean and just unnecessary and whenever Teddy called him out on it, he backpedalled and made it seem like Teddy was a bad person for assuming that's what he meant. He constantly said hurtful things and then twisted Teddy's words in his mouth so that Teddy ended up being in the wrong. Also, I get that he was annoyed at Shak's behavior but come on? Antagonizing your boyfriend's best friend and trying to get your boyfriend to talk shit on his best friend? And pressuring your boyfriend to come out for you when you know first-hand how badly this could go? After he just told you what happened between his mum and granddad? Yeah sorry, it's a no from me. He struck me as a deeply insecure person and I felt like he internally resented Teddy. I also think the ending that Teddy got was a little rushed and felt quite forced, I don't know. I think Teddy might have benefitted from some time to work on himself before jumping straight into another relationship. Or did I read it wrong and they agreed to stay friends? It was a little confusing... Arthur's story was sweet, him and Jack reuniting was like the only scene that made me even a little emotional. I enjoyed reading it but I also have a huge problem with it: the forgiveness. I get that this was supposed to be a feel-good book and it also makes sense for Arthur from a character-perspective but I don't like how quickly the bad actions from certain family-members were glossed over. I get that Arthur just wants to spend the last years of his life happy together as a family but eh... Teddy was similar when it came to that family member and then also the situation at the very end with the news article. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN FORGIVE THIS? Something positive towards the end: I like that the book didn't shy away from portraying the horrible reality of being queer before it was okay (it's still not okay in many places today, let's not forget that!) Arthur is unfortunately not the only one who had to make these experiences. I would've liked for the author to go a little more in debt about that, the conversion therapy for example.

Es ist nie zu spät, die Person zu sein, die man sein möchte! Arthur ist 79 Jahre alt, als er seinen Kindern erklärt, dass er schwul ist. Während Sohn und Tochter diese Information erst mal verarbeiten müssen, ist seine Frau Madeleine voll und ganz an seiner Seite, um ihn zu unterstützen. Immerhin weiß sie, dass Arthur dieses Geheimnis schon sein ganzes Leben lang mit sich trägt. Nun möchte er jedoch nicht mehr im verborgenen Leben, sondern endlich der sein, der er schon immer war. Zeitgleich befindet sich Teddy, Arthurs 21-jähriger Enkel in einem Liebesdreieck mit seinem besten Freund und seinem Kollegen Ben wieder. Nach der heftigen Reaktion seiner Mutter auf den Großvater, ist Teddy jedoch abgeschreckt, offen mit seinen Gefühlen umzugehen und sich seiner Familie gegenüber zu outen. Ryan Love hat einen sehr humorvollen und herzerwärmenden Roman geschrieben und mich mehr als nur einmal dazu gebracht, zu den Taschentüchern zu greifen. Das Coming-out von Arthur in seinem Alter kommt mit so vielen Emotionen daher, aber auch mit so viel Weisheit und Lebensfreude. Ich habe diesen Mann wirklich in mein Herz geschlossen! Doch so authentisch und schön ich Arthurs Geschichte in diesem Buch empfunden habe, so sehr habe ich auch meine Probleme mit Teddys Teil gehabt. Teddy steht am Beginn seines Lebens und ist einfach ein richtiges Nepo-Baby, dessen Art und ignorantes Verhalten mir sehr unsympathisch waren. Auch hat mir die Struktur in seinem Part etwas gefehlt, die Story rund um seine Beziehungen fand ich nicht ganz ausgefeilt und gegen Ende hin auch etwas zäh. Während ich bis zur Hälfte des Buches noch dachte, ein nächstes Lesehighlight in den Händen zu halten und mit meinen Emotionen am Ende war, machte sich in der zweiten Hälfte eine leichte Enttäuschung breit, und Teddy nahm mir die Freude an Arthurs Geschichte. Ein 5-Sterne Buch ist es am Ende nicht mehr. Allerdings auch kein schlechtes Buch, deshalb möchte ich es euch trotzdem empfehlen. Meet Arthur, please!

Die ersten 100 Seiten und auch die letzten hundert Seiten haben sich für mich ganz schön gezogen aber den mittleren Teil habe dich sehr gemocht. Ich habe mich schnell in alle Charaktere verliebt und mochte wie thematisiert wurde wie es ist sich zu outen wenn man jung oder älter ist.
