London, UK,1922: Jahr for Jahr tauchen in London im Winter plötzliche Einladungen mi dem Wort ‚Heute‘ auf. Als der Maler Forster eine solche Einladung findet und das Fest besucht, ist er fasziniert und berauscht und möchte herausfinden, wer hinter den Festen steckt. In einem verlassenen Herrenhaus stößt er schließlich auf eine Spur und eine mysteriöse Frau. Schon das Retelling vom Nussknacker gefiel mir so gut. Dieses Schwanensee Retelling mit Gatsby Einflüssen mochte ich noch lieber. Der Schreibstil ist wieder flüssig, die Kapitel sind einigermaßen kurz - am liebsten hätte ich das Buch in einem Rutsch durchgelesen. Dafür ist die Geschichte aber zu schön. Die ganze Vorgeschichte der Ereignisse ab 1922 löst sich nach und nach auf. Ich habe mit den beiden Hauptcharakteren Forster und Detta stets gelitten und mitgefiebert. Gut fand ich auch, dass kurz auf das weitere Leben und Schicksal von Marietta aus Midnight in Everwood Bezug genommen wurde.
