Escape room fantasy, murder mystery reality.
The concept? insane (compliment). A murder mystery inside a reality TV escape room competition where the victim’s sister is literally a contestant?? unhinged and i loved it. The mockumentary-style producer notes and audition transcripts are clever and the multi-POV setup is surprisingly easy to follow. The puzzle rooms are fun and you can actually try to solve along with the characters which scratched a very specific itch. my only issues: the second half piles on revelations a bit fast, and one key character who ends up being super important spent most of the book barely there , so the twist lands a little conveniently. also it ends on a “to be continued” which… okay. fine. i’ll wait. not happily, but i’ll wait.
