This is not my country, he thought. This is not my Germany. I really liked the story of this book, I liked Hanna and Max and I was rooting for them. It was also told in a way that made it easy to "cope" the time jumps between the 1930s and the 1940s/50s. What made me take away the stars here was the way that the author randomly put in German words. As a German native speaker I had no problems understanding those but they were often misspelled or used with incorrect grammar. If you're using word from another language have someone check them! Please! Also, they really disrupted the reading flow...
