You come for the cozy village vibes and stay for the delightful contrast between everyone else's polite small talk and one man's very particular set of skills. Der amüsante Titel hat mich sofort verführt – und tatsächlich nicht enttäuscht, auch wenn die Story anders war, als ich erwartet hatte. Ich rechnete mit Dante, dem Ex-Assassinen bei seinem Neustart als Zivilisten. Nicht gerechnet habe ich mit: einer niedlichen Katze, dem geistersehenden Charlie, der Ex-Conartistin Eleanore und einem Mordfall. Dabei hat mich Dante mit seiner klaren, nüchternen, aber auch etwas unbeholfenen Art mehr als einmal amüsiert: >> He looked so hopeful Dante couldn’t bring himself to say no. It would be like kicking a puppy, something Dante had never done. >> “Crystal’s lovely. She might try to slip you her number when she delivers the cake.” Dante blinked in confusion. “Why? Is she an operative?” “No, Dante. She’s flirting with you.” Zwischendurch hatte die Geschichte zähe Stellen – die Spurensuche ist sicher ein Fest für Krimifans, für mich aber eher wie Kekse in der Pralinenschachtel. Ich greife lieber zu den Cozy- und Paranormal-Pralinen, und davon gab es glücklicherweise genug. Fazit: Eine spannende, schöne und liebenswerte Story, die für mich mehr Rosengarten statt Mord und Todschlag vertragen hätte. 🌹🌷🌼
