okay the premise absolutely had me: arranged marriage, assassination attempt, husband turns into a horse, she literally rides him to safety?? iconic. and honestly the horse puns and Aric being a short bookish grump are genuinely charming once they get going. but the first half drags, the characters come across as pretty flat early on, and the miscommunication trope hits in ways that feel a little unbelievable for two royals whose kingdoms are literally on the line . the political mystery is also barely a that: there’s really only one real suspect and the resolution feels almost unfinished. it’s a solid cozy read if you want something light, quick and fun.
