3.5 ⭐️The book was a little slow moving in some parts, but besides that, Penn and Madden are a beautiful example for friends to lovers stories. The presence of my beloved Bertha Bpys was my highlight, especially Xander's - I literally can't wait on his own book, haven't since Not Dating Material, and the waiting gets worse each day!! Health anxiety has almost no representation without stigma and prejudices in books or films, and it is something I used to struggle with myself, which is why Xander's outbursts and all the portraits of loving people struggling with their deal with it really got to me and elevated this story. But back to the main story. I missed the characters' deeper background stories, I know nothing about Penn's upbringing. You get to know he somehow has some mental health struggles and a fear of abandonment, but it isn't taken up again. Furthermore, Penn is so sure he's straight (like he's almost sorry for it) and then suddenly he's not and totally fine with it? I like queer awakenings, but this one felt too fast. I liked the approach to normalize nudism, because I was a bit scared, that a spicy romance would use it for some kind of sexualization storywise, but that wasn't the case at all. Nudism is not for me, but I do understand the reasons someone might have for it a little bit better now. The story is quite short, but it was a bit slow moving nevertheless, which is something I don't really know of Saxon. Besides these points of criticism, it still was a steady romance and the Bertha Boys do have my heart.

Auf großer Strecke eher langatmig, aber trotzdem sind Penn und Madden ein schönes Beispiel für friends to lovers Geschichten. Am allerbesten hat mir aber die Einbindung der Bertha Boys gefallen, insbesondere die von Xander. Auf Xanders Geschichte warte ich sowieso schon seit Not Dating Material, und das Warten wird immer schlimmer - health anxiety bzw. Hypochondrie hat kaum entstigmatisierte Repräsentation in Büchern/Filmen, und ich kenn diese Krankheitsangst selber leider viel zu gut - deshalb freue ich mich so sehr auf Saxon's Version 🥹 Mir hat hier ein bisschen tiefgründigeres Eintauchen in die Hintergrundgeschichten der beiden gefehlt, über Penn's Familie/Aufwachsen weiß man irgendwie gar nichts und es wird zwar angedeutet, dass er psychische Probleme und allen voran Verlustängste hat, aber das wird gar nicht weiter aufgegriffen. Der Ansatz, Nudismus zu normalisieren, hat mir gut gefallen; vor allem weil ich ein bisschen Angst hatte, dass das in einer Romance irgendwie sexualisiert werden könnte, aber das wurde es gar nicht. Ist zwar nichts für mich persönlich, aber ich kann die Beweggründe jetzt etwas besser nachvollziehen. Dafür, dass die Geschichte recht kurz ist, war sie streckenweise wirklich etwas zäh, was ich so von Saxon eigentlich gar nicht kenne. Trotz all der Kritikpunkte war das wirklich immer noch eine solide Romance und die Bertha Boys haben einfach mein Herz.
