This book is so cute I thought I get diabetes! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I picked this book up just yesterday. If I didn't have kids I would have read it in one setting! The writing is perfect. It's true, real, raw and very emotional. I just don't like the story.. I LOVE IT! I want to jump right into this book and live there! Alle the characters are loveable and there's no one I didn't love. Cat and Connor are just perfect for each other. Even all their problems and emotions are tangible. Overthinking, anxiety, grief, loss, love, happiness.. Everything is so real and true and raw. Rarely has a book touched me so emotionally. Can't wait for more!
Our Secret Moments By Janisha Boswell When I flipped the last page of Our Secret Moments, my heart was full – I fell in love with Cat & Connor. Their love transcended my Kindle and went straight to my heart! I will say, though, I was a little disappointed with where it left off for Cat & Connor, but I am keeping hope there will be a follow up book which will give me the scene I wanted this one to end with – fingers crossed! (Also, acknowledgements hinted to a second book and I REALLY hope the next couple to be in the spotlight is Nora & Wes! Our Secret Moments is a sweet love story, in my opinion, between two lifelong friends (Cat & Connor) who are currently in college together. The fun part is that Cat is best friends with Connor’s twin sister, Nora. This makes it interesting when things start to heat up between our main characters! The story doesn’t kick off with sparks flying, though. Cat knows Connor has a crush on her, but she underestimates just how much he cares for her. On the flip side, Cat acknowledges (internally) that Connor is super-hot and easy to be around due to the closeness they’ve always had between their friend group + their families. Cat is majoring in journalism and Connor is the star quarterback for the college’s football team. Based on an assignment given to her by one of her teachers, Cat is tasked with getting to know the football team and bringing their newsletter/magazine back to life, as it hasn’t been published in 5 years. If you’re thinking this is some forced proximity, you’d be right! Cat is not a sports person and the last thing she wants to do is follow the football team around & interview them all individually, etc. However, her performance in school and her subsequent career opportunities, like writing for the New York Times, is something that means a lot to her, therefore she jumps in with both feet. As Cat is navigating the football team’s publication she now oversees, she finds herself around Connor more frequently and this is enough to give him the nerve he needs to start showing her how he feels about her, subtly at first. Both characters have things they have to work through – Cat’s loss of a loved one and Connor’s belief that he is not good at anything except football, he doesn’t feel he has an identity outside of that label. Throughout the story, Cat & Connor do a great job, in my opinion, of talking through these lingering issues and self-doubt, which brings them closer. I feel like in other books I have read, the author tends to use this as an opportunity to create intentional friction between the main characters, so it was nice to read that they faced their issues head-on, and together. I felt this was a mature way for the characters to work out their issues instead of creating unnecessary disagreements or even break up. Cat’s character resonated with me when she mentions being a perfectionist who cares too much about the tiny details. I had my hand up
