I wish I could rate this higher because the writing style/humor was great, and I loved the couple, but I didn't care about the story at all 😅 There were too many times I was bored, even if I liked the characters and their joking around. I mean 3☆ (or kinda like 3,25☆) is still not bad and I would read other stuff from this author. So it's about Kit (Christopher) Sawyer, who is part of a famous family of adventurers who made all kinds of groundbreaking discoveries. He is also interested in Archology, but as a scientist and not in the field. Therefore, he is often disregarded as the boring one. But now the tables have turned. Kit Sawyer has to go on his first (and last) adventure in the Mexican jungle to return a (apparently) cursed artifact that won't leave him be. With him on this tour, his ex-step-brother Ethan, who he has complicated feelings for. I liked how the main character was written with his insecurities in the family and understandable animosity with Ethan, who had a special connection with his dad as a fellow adventurer, while he himself often felt left out, and also had to deal with having seizures/epilepsy (which also none of his exes could handle). They got over their "hatred" pretty fast on the trip, but it felt natural since they both knew it wasn't serious, and Ethan never did anything to really deserve it. I enjoyed their banter, and the romantic scenes were also nice. Now, about the actual story though. Nothing about it was surprising. I was more surprised that there wasn't more to it. Everything felt underwhelming. After that interesting opening with the cursed crown, it became almost irrelevant for most of the time. It took them over 100 pages to even get to the jungle, and then it was just endless walking and making camp (realistic, I guess, but boring). The discovery of the thing was also underwhelming, and the obvious "plottwist" was, well, obvious and uninteresting to me. The best part were the last, like 100 pages, where a bit more happened, but some things about how this curse was handled didn't make sense to me. Well, and then the epilogue was better since it was more about them being a couple. So yeah, nice relationship, but I wished it was in another book/story 😅
