This was SO beautiful! Single Dad/Guardian is one of my all time favourite tropes, and I didn't expect anything less than Emmy totally nailing that one (again)! Winnie is the sweetest, most fierce daughter, and I adored watching Sammy slide into that family dynamic. Both of them have their baggage to carry and it's written responsibly and emphatically. I loved the take on a partner not being the solution for your own problems, but that you learn how to let go of some of the pressure at least and trusting others. The book itself was really sweet, well paced and I loved the characters and their dynamic. I only had some struggles considering this is a book in a series AND the last one, that Plum Valley isn't the setting anymore and almost no characters from previous books have an appearance and if they do it's super brief. This is totally fine in a series of interdependent standalones, but I would have wished for a different order of books at least, so that the last book takes us back to where it all began for longer than a few chapters and with a deeper lookout on how everyone from previous books is doing.Aaand I thought Winnie acted a bit too "cute" for a ten year old, but maybe that's just me. She still was an awesome kid in a single dad book!
