The Gentlemen of Unfortunate Fortune vol. 1.5

This was a nice little addition to the series about the brother of the main characters in volume 1. You can still read it as a standalone, but I'd recommend it after "The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting." Toby had to flee his family home and has been getting by with the occasional theft. When he meets the charming Miles at an inn and steals his watch after a steamy encounter, he feels bad about it, but "needs must," as he tends to say. What he didn't anticipate was meeting him again when he tries to find a job at the residence of the Earl. Well, they obviously come to an agreement, and he helps Miles to tidy up the house after his father just died and left it in ruin. There are no other servants left, so it's just the two of them decluttering the house while getting to know each other. Just as in the first volume, I enjoyed the pairing of a commoner and a noble while keeping a power balance more even. Miles is still an Earl, but they met in different circumstances, and now his inheritance is in shambles. They talk casually, and Miles is still hesitant to do anything because Toby is in a way dependent on him, and "A yes means nothing if you can't say no." 😌 Obviously, they get together in the end ❤️ I liked their dynamic, and it was just great to know more about Toby after we heard what happened from Robin's and Marnie's perspective. There is even another mini-epilog (11 pages) called "A Rose by Any Name," in which they reunite (you can find it on the authors website).
