It is honestly so, so hard to describe this book/world. It feels like a cozy and fun fantasy world (kinda like a comfort show you have on in the evenings), right up until the last 10% of it.
Yes, is it dangerous and has monsters in it, but they feel like ‘this is a normal part of the day’ and not like an absolute life or death kind of situation.
Until … well, until the last leg of the book and you get completely mauled. Literally. There is a heavy trigger warning from me, if you don’t do body horror/gore.
To paint you a picture and be more clear about the specifics: remember the scene from silent hill, the first movie, when everyone runs into the church and pyramid head grabs one of them and ‘does something’ to their skin? Imagine that, but multiple it.
So if you can’t stomach that, you either should not read this one, or skip those parts when the monster and what it does is described.
But other than that, it is just so incredible to spend these 48 hours in the world together with Erin, who I adore and Ryoka, who I most of the time was honestly annoyed by, because of her constant anger issues. It is a vast and special place with so many wonders (and dangers!), which you still hope to never wander into by accident.
I can’t tell you why, but the feeling I get when listening to the audiobook, is a little like when I’m listening to Terry Pratchett books.
