Lots of monsters and death.

Finally, a decent dinosaur/monster story (that isn't Jurassic Park)! I've been looking for a dinosaur story with some good action and carnage similar to Chrichton's novels, minus the highly intellectual parts. The first novel in the Primordia trilogy fit the criteria very well. I didn't even realise it when I ordered the book, but Primordia is not only inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World", but actively incorporates it into the story. As it happens, I also ordered Doyle's book together with Primordia. Perhaps I should have read TLW first. πŸ˜‚ I give this book a special point for creativity. As mentioned, the author included Doyle's book into his own story. The MC just happens to be the heir of a famous adventurer who used to be a close friend of Doyle. And the book "The Lost World", was inspired by the adventures of the MC's ancestor. Now, the MC and a group of friends decide to find out how much truth there is to this story. They go on a treasure hunt to locate a forgotten notebook of the MC's ancestor. But they are not the only ones interested in the secrets of that notebook.. Another creative part for me was the many, many different threats this group comes face to face with, and the brutal (and plentiful) deaths that occur along the way. In fact, the dinosaurs aren't even the most dangerous part of this adventure. πŸ‘€ The story wasn't "deep", but worked just fine. I didn't really care about the characters, but they didn't annoy me either. (I just wanted to get to the death and chaos. πŸ˜‚) The only thing I didn't like was the time it took to get to the hidden world. I had to stay patient for 50% of the book, which consisted of lots of talking and traveling. I wish that part had been a bit shorter. Once they finally arrived in the jungle, things got interesting. But the writing was fluid and didn't drag on too much, so the first half of the book was still ok. I loved the many creatures, the carnage, and the reason as to why all these creatures were there in the first place. I definitely want to read the sequel. πŸ¦–
